Omg their little voices remind me of the squeaky shoe in Who Framed Roger Rabbit…which made the whole thing even sadder lol! Thank goodness it turned out better for them then it did for the shoe!
Nature can be cruel; really glad that still most of the chicks have strength to escape that icy nursery area.

That's why they made it that way. Think - this happens to them literally every morning yet flamingos somehow thrive. This is just bbc using editing to make the situation feel dire to pull on heartstrings, which is a shame because they could be talking about the science behind flamingos being frozen in water yet not losing circulation. But nah, concern baiting.

It must be hard for the researchers & camera crew to watch that and do nothing. Beautifully documented.
One leader with determination starts and rest follows.
Seemingly, it's a bit for them to grow under such weather conditions but it might be the best way for them to grow and learn the survival is hard for them to just keep themselves alive.
Rather, it is the _only_ way. They live there because other niches are filled by other species.
It's almost as if birds are paying the ultimate price for having been dinosaurs lmao.

The lake froze though so they couldn't get to the food.

These fledglings look like a toy, as their neck is short. Happy to see they're saved by wind providing extra lift. With lower span/aspect ratio, they might not be enjoying such a luck. A harsh fact may be that there would be many missing such a fortuitous savior (not referred to it here though).

They cant have too many predatory animals around if that happens every morning in the winter.
