I was into the stinger board deal for a minute. You are absolutely right I've never seen anyone show one on a scope. They have some inherent problems for one lots of heat.
I put the limiter AMC D11 on a switch for my comp radios.. sometimes its good too have that nasty wave if your running a class C hammer box and you want too win the prize. But for normal talking especially using tube amps and or AB biasing you need a really clean waveform to be efficient and have a pleasant audio tone.
65 75 watts on a stinger bout perfect... I use 3 diff styles on my builds i use the the 1446 /2290 on copper board ..also do exsternal amps like 9530 mosfit and many other RX series boads .. but the home builds are my favorite,only thing isnwe have to remove internal speaker...to built the heatsink and copper board placement..alot different than what u see here ,but with that said i really like the over all resaults of this radio GREAT JOB!!!
I agree i don't like installing the stinger boards either but i sure get alot of customers that want it. The other one i don't care much for is the RFX 75 and 85 that mounts on the back mainly because if you install it without the cooling fan kit it just won't last and even with the fan they run to hot for my liking. I come across a brand new cobra 29 lx with a stinger board half installed, it's a brand new radio with a new board. Excellent receive but won't transmit when it keys down... there is no pass thru or anything reading on the watt meter with the amp power switch on or not
Funny As a broadcast engineer, I do not buy a 500 watt transmitter for my 500 watt station. I buy a 1000 watt transmitter, and run it at 530 wats, depending on my antenna and the 10% plus I am allowed by the FCC. NO ONE should ever buy a 100 watt amp and expect 100 watts!
Then as a "BROADCAST ENGINEER",you should understand the difference in duty cycle between a BROADCAST TRANSMITER and a COMMUNICATION TRANSCEIVER. So yes,for a amplifier that's not "ON" 24/7 you should absolutely expect 100 watts out of a 100 watt amplifier.
Any idea where the chrome covers came from? I cant find them for this model radio but I've heard these are made by Uniden. So I'm wondering if I ordered covers for a Uniden would it fit?

Hahahaha,the shark tooth special!!We got a shop down on 222 in Pa here that charges $50 for his peak and tune all he does is peak L14 and clip D11 terrible! These are cool radios thinking of buying a few and doing my thing!!Did you have to make a RF shield for the install or did the stinger work just dropping in? Great job brother..rock on!!! 577
Yea man, all I needed was the Jaws music playing lol..its really crazy the amount of hacked up rigs that are out there. I just feel bad for all the guys who get taken advantage of. As for the stinger install, no shield was needed. It actually played with the radio very well. Could of got a lot more wattage out of it but then the shark would have come back for a visit. Definitely give one a try! Glad your out there doing your thing, I always enjoy your vids. 👍

What a shame, all that trouble just to end up with the power of a Stryker or a Lincoln 2+ with a fraction of the capability. No side band, no FM, no CW, and it's likely stuck on CB frequencies too. Guess the saying is true, buy once, cry once. In that regard my next purchase will be an Icon 7300 😆
Road Kings are JUNK!!! I bought their top-of-the-line radio and it lasted me 6 months before it CRAPPED OUT!! Now, TRY getting warranty support... NOT!!!
Yea unfortunately they build them as cheap as possible and intend them to be thrown out when broke. Stick with an old school style no frills rig and you might have better luck.
@@TheRadioGarage I also bought a uniden ssb980 and had a stinger board installed by a so-called professional repair shop and now it's shorting out and have no idea what to do with it. I've got 400 bucks wrapped up into it!
Oh boy..that doesn't sound good. Might be best to start over fresh..I really hate seeing guys spending their hard earned money and then getting screwed.

These radios just turned up are unbelievable in audio. That stinger board will make it sound hella awesome.

What does the antenna so239 look like on the inside? Sounds like something is disconnected.

Just out of curiosity if you don’t like the stinger what do you recommend to get more power out a Cobra CB?
i am using an older roadking, no usb and just says 'roadking rkcb' on front. are they similar to a cobra?

No I don't know. Thats how the radio came to me. Should be the same covers for a cobra 29 or uniden 78.

Roadstar is a hack shop that sells radios on eBay a lot. One of these 300+ dollar Cobra 29 shops. Man is no good. Lesson learned here I guess
