-----------------------
Hip-hop pioneer Roxanne Shante sat down with VladTV for an exclusive interview where she opened up about spending years in the Hegeman group home. She revealed that she honed in on her rap skills while in the group home, and also made lifelong friends that she still keeps in touch with.
During the conversation, Roxanne spoke about meeting neighborhood music influencer Marley Marl, and spitting "Roxanne's Revenge" in seven minutes while taking a break from doing laundry. To hear more of what Roxanne had to say, hit the above clip. - Розваги
Highly underrated and often overlooked. One of the original Queens of Hip Hop
502 KINGPAUL i agree broham
Oh most definitely
She was the original lyrical queen .. 14 years old and nothing touched her
Shante was battling grown men MC's and takin them out
I still love her voice..... ✊🏾
I'm very intrigued to see more of this interview! Her Netflix bio pic just wasn't enough for me. ❤️
Linda Lynn I felt that way too. I wish they would got more her career
Linda Lynn that was too short
Linda Lynn y'all being nice, it was pretty bad lol. I love and respect Shante tho....
The movie was horrible
next part dropping tomorrow
How many here after Netflix
YB that's XL shit Vlad interviewed her because of Netflix.
Ong I came bc of Netflix
The beat when "Roxanne's Revenge" first comes on before the beat drop is everything lol . I'm a lil too young but I first heard it in the late 80's, like '89 or '90 although it came out in the early 80's. I was like 7 or 8 when I first heard that song. I miss back in the day
This is a part of hip hop history! Need more legends to interview Vlad! Movie was dope! 🤘🏽💪👍👏🔥
That movie is still on Netflix
After watching that movie on Netflix.. I went on UA-cam to see some of her performances...her bars is sick #Queen
Her vibe is so beautiful💜
I enjoyed watching her biopic, and other biopics like New Edition, NWA etc;...It's so nostalgic to genX'er to which there was no social media to keep with with our favorite celebrities besides buying a magazine and reading about them. A phenomenal glimpse into the 80's & early 90's Hip-Hop scene. I have so much respect for her telling her story.
Legend. Peace to the Queen from Queens Bridge
Lydell Sumner Queenz^^^ Juuu hurd
Great movie. Ending was kinda blunt. I wish they had spent more time on the beef with utfo and krs 1. The Roxanne battle. Etc
I agree - the ending came out of nowhere
djvlad come on brother Vlad. Still waiting on you to bring on Rodney O Joe Cooley. #westcoastlegends.
It kinda seem like it might be a part 2
Orlando Molina 💯💯
She speaks on the fact that she wanted it to be more than just a music bio-pic...
The term "Legend" is often thrown around and sometimes misplaced but it definitely applies to this woman.
I can’t wait to see the other parts!
I wonder why they left out her group Home experience in the Biopic. Hmmm
Rey S. Yeah cause in the movie she was renting a basement apartment, right?
rick ortiz
Yes. And? That’s not a group home.
It went from the first scene as a child battle rapper (Age 9?) to her being a teen (Age 14?) in Queensbridge Housing Projects. Unless I saw that wrong.
In film, sometimes producers take out facts and moments because of budget and time. It’s sucks, but it’s done all the time to keep the momentum
@@crzyclown4lyfe exactly why I don't like Hollywood touching a story. I prefer documentaries, I want to know as much as the truth as possible
Opportunist or not nobody else gave her shine, movie was hot get your press do your thing QUEEN
Kadarius Miller
That movie was wack. Nigga, please.
Rey S. Get out was wack y’all gotta just start being more positive let her have her 5 min in peace why put another black person down just because your not doing shit?🤔🤦🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
Kadarius Miller
One, did any one mention Get Out? I know I didn’t. But yeah, I didn’t like that shit too.
Two, save the “don’t down another black person” bit. If her ass wants to degrade black men, then guess what? We don’t have to sit back and let another generation of black heifers disparage our efforts. Fuck her and fuck any other black motherfucker who says otherwise.
Three, neither you nor her know what anyone is doing on Gods green earth. So, guess what? Save the polite deflecting version of “stop being a hater.” And if that’s how you want to play it, then, yes, I’m a no life having hater. But, you know what? I have a black son, and I’ll be damned if I sit back let these new heifers, serendipitously devise a way to make his life harder as a black man in America.
That said, eat a dick and stop playing gay or stop marketing get her BS.
Rey S. I was ready to talk shit but I gotta agree with u brah woman get shitted on by douche bag ass leach ass niggas but those the type they be attracted to it’s good bro’s but since we not as out going and spontaneous and all that shit we gotta jump through hoops to get somewhere....then about time you do get one of them females they got baggage like a mfka smh I’m going through a divorce right now and I’m keeping my 4 kids and she already moved out the house and out of town why because she was on some selfish shit she couldn’t understand the concept of when you start having kids you have to consider everybody else but a lot of these women are fuck narcissistic look that shit up man the characteristics matched my soon to be ex to a fuckin T so all in all I liked the movie I thought it was a cool lil short biopic but placing the blame on black men is total bullshit mothers and father gotta school they’re children about using they brain and not getting caught up in emotions be logical stop looking for the boys wit swag them boys that are lame are more there speed that girl that’s easy not the one you wanna wife cuz she got self esteem issues etc...
Rey S. I didn't watch the Roxane movie because instead of the movie being about her career I heard it was a "Hip Hop version of Precious" but I'm curious to know why you don't fw Get Out?🤔
She was before my era but I’m lovin her energy. Seems like an iLL female
denali88 samee i just know nas loved her
Love you girl we grew up with Shante !! Thanks for making those trips to Skate town Rochester NY My sista !!
legendary Queen
Much love and respect to Shante!!I Grew up listening to her and she could battle anybody, male or female! Her biopic movie was waaay overdue. These new-school female rappers need to pay homage to this legend...
Saw her and the Juice Crew last November..was dope
Dope. Looking forward to the rest of this interview.
"My name is Shante and the mic is my main man, its not soul train or american bandstand." (Live on Stage). Love u Shanny, Legend! ;)
it's about time. One of the best Emcee that ever did it!
I Love her enthusiasm for battling! I also dig her resiliency... Brava!
I remember her song “Go On Girl” use to get played at every block party in philly during the 90s. Glad she’s getting her recognition now 💪
Jesus HelpMe Philly in the house!
Mrs Shante is real Hip Hop. I remember the 1st time I heard her on the radio and my girls and I was like yeah a female Mc who does the damn thang all the way live 🎤💯👑 we from New Jersey but still was very proud 😌✌.
Now SHE is in my top 10 female MCS of ALL TIME!!!
Honest Opinion lol. It's like how all the NWA fans came out after the movie
Steph Curry The G.O.A.T and the golden state warriors fans after curry got there
She's been in my top 3!
I Am I No.. You're a CORNIER nigga that doesn't understand that even with her ENTIRE catalogue, it's STILL NOT ENOUGH
baba lu She's in my top 10 because she was the most serious female battle rapper. She came at SERIOUS competition. She HAS assassinated many MEN as a teenager. They're aren't alot of female emcees that I like so it's not hard for her to make my top 10. Top 5 would be 1- Rah Digga
2- Lauren Hill 3- MC Lyte. 4- Bahamadia and 5- Queen Latifah
Loving the interview...Also respect to one of marley's first productions with Dimples D (1983)
She was so dope she battled MEN!!
Peace to Roxanne Shante
The original female rapper before mc lyte, salt n pepa, monie love, queen latifah, mc trouble ( R.I.P.), Isis (x clan), and the future female rappers.
graham lionel Sweet T was the first.
Floyd Roberts Know your hip hop history, youngsta. Sweet T was the first solo female rap star. She came out in like '83 or '84 or some shit. Shante came out in '86 or '87. The first all female rap group came out in '79. They were called Sequence, which featured Angie Stone, who is now a neo soul recording artist. Look it up and see that I'm not lying.
Chi Rock from the the funky 4 +1 and the female rap group Angie Stone was in predates Roxanne Shante
Tragic504 So does Sweet T. Shante is probably one of the youngest rappers I ever seen. She was like 13 or 14 when she started. I'm not sure if she was the youngest of all time, but she was easily one of the youngest when she first started. Kriss Kross were in their early teens, too.
Kory Green sweet t was early but not 84 like she is...... sweet t might have been 86
That was too short!i need more!!!
That was a dope interview! 🙂
this woman has not aged since like 2003
i'll put a G up that says that somewhere in this whole interview, Vlad is going to bring up the Nas part from the movie.. The part where she told Nas that if he didn't have his raps right the next time, she'd fuck him up
It's about time you interview an actual dope rapper.
I know he do be interviewing interesting people who pretty much tell the truth that they would never say 20 30 40 years ago or when they were in the business
OMGGG YESSS VLAD FOR THE ROXANNE SHANTE INTERVIEW!
Can't wait to see her full interview one of the female pioneers of rap
Love the interview and powerful movie
Prayerfully there will be a part two to continue the story

DJ VLAD Shante Word Play Is On Another Level …Interview Rah fam!!
Hip Hop Royalty 👑
I love the Roxanne shante story the movie had fun moments with the rhymes serious dramatic moments. My only thing is that it was too short I wanted to see more the way it ended felt incomplete like ther was suppose to be a second part to the story to complete the movie
For the youngins that seen the movie, Biz Markie wasn't a big sloppy nigga in the early Juice Crew days. She still looking young DANM!!
RayFromDa Bay right ,
RayFromDa Bay
Yeah, Biz was stocky and not fat.
truth
Lmao thanks for clearing that up!! Bcuz he let himself go 😳😂
RayFromDa Bay deadass tho
This is already damn good. She always reminded me of a female Kool G. Rap. She said she took out UTFO, who were large at the time, by herself freestyling for 7 mins. The track where she goes after the big time females in Hip Hop was crazy too. Those in the know about Shante' are not surprised by this at all.
The real Roxana Shante love this real lady so much

Aint gonna lie, when I was a kid from Michigan, I use to listen to this cassette with funny raps, and one was "Roxanne's a Man" or some shit and i would blast that shit.... "She used to be a dude around the block, down by law, certified rock, hanging around the corner with a can of.... down with the crew lol including me..." Love the UTFO original joint too, but that's how i got to know Shante... sigh, good old times
I wonder if the Coldest Winter by Sistah Souljah is based on Shante?
