    Samantha was my FAVORITE AG doll and story. I also had a lot of the cooking and crafting books. I also DID have the play set, but I never got the chance to put on the play. Tried, but, it didn't come together. It never occurred to me that Pleasant Company would offer the official patterns. Makes sense, but I always thought that the people I knew who made AG doll clothes just... were kinda magic. :) I've been loving the bracket you put together on insta and I hope you get the chance to do more of these!

      My favorites were always Samantha and Felicity. I'm hoping to make a Felicity dress later this year, but it likely won't involve these patterns.
      The clothes we got were always modern, so it never occurred to me there might be official patterns either! I put a link to the PDFs for all of them in my description.
      I'm so glad you enjoyed the bracket! I hope you'll participate in the one I'm starting tomorrow!

    WOW, WOW, WOW! I am totally impressed by your hubby. A man that takes that much interest in a wife's childhood interests is so amazing. After 33 yrs. married myself, I would say You have a true keeper. Way to go hubby. Samantha's dress is beautiful, good job. It looks perfect. You kept very good care of her throughout the years.

      Most of my American Girl Book collection is courtesy of my husband. I originally read them all from the library. No only did he track down all of the books, he tracked down the ones with the cover design I like best! All of the Pastimes books I showed were also from him. He spent months looking at second hand shops and eBay! On top of that, the little pewter figurines in my ad spot were from a board game he found AND he actually bought the figurines from a second seller because the game was missing one of the figurines. He's definitely a very supportive keeper

    I got a Samantha doll when I was 5 or 6. For the first year I had her she was kept in my parents' room and I was only allowed to play with her under adult supervision. I really should unbox her again. She has been packed away for the past 6+ years.
    By the way, I think you can find PDF copies of those doll patterns for free online.

    When we used to have the big arts & crafts fairs (before Covid) there was always at least one booth where the lady had made American Girl and My Twin doll dresses. I didn’t realize there was specific patterns. I had thought the patterns were from Simplicity, etc. Your dress turned out cute and I’m looking forward to what comes next.

      @@catherinejustcatherine1778 it depends on the project. This pattern was a lucky find and I'm hoping to do another one from the same pattern. The third dress I'm thinking about would be draped directly on the doll. Both are based on preexisting styles so I would have to order fabric. I had never heard of these dolls until a few years ago. But I do remember being hugely impressed with a large bin of Barbie clothes from my great aunt one Christmas. Years later I continued the tradition for my niece. Then again for my kids. Haven’t thought of that in years! I do remember that doll patterns were a lot less fiddling than Barbie!

    Ooooh! I have a lot of those patterns in my stash, but got them second-hand so they didn't come with the ribbon-tied folder. I don't have American Girl dolls but I have some of their furniture and accessories for other dolls and at least one other type of doll who fits AG clothes.

    Wow! That really is great condition, considering she was played with. I have three American Girl dolls (that are now 27, 26, and 25 years old...I cannot believe that! Where did time go?!), but never really dragged them here and there with me like I had done with my Cabbage Patch dolls, so they all look brand new, aside from changes to their hair styles. My maternal grandmother, who bought me each of the dolls (after I learned about American Girls in school when a teacher read us Addy's story while we were learning about the Civil War), made some clothing for them but I think she just used generic doll clothing patterns. It's really awesome that you got your hands on the patterns! This video, and discussing the dolls in your Community posts, has me wanting to get them out (they are in storage in my sewing room) and sew something for them. Not for Kirsten or Josefina, as I love their original outfits...but my "Just Like You" doll could use a new wardrobe. I have some of the Pastimes books, specifically the cookbooks. I can't remember if I ever made anything from them or not. What a longwinded comment! Sorry about my babbling.

    • @HattoHem
      @HattoHem  2 роки тому +2

      I'm so glad this video and my posts have brought up some happy memories and inspired you! The clothes I had for Samantha were pretty generic too, but I loved them and her! She's been all over the place, but I was a careful type of kid so she was well taken care of, as were the others I had :D the Pastimes books are new-to-me, but I really want to experiment with them. If my son ends up getting interested in history, I'm hoping we can get good use out of them in the future!

    • @AdirondackRuby
      @AdirondackRuby 2 роки тому +2

      @@HattoHem That would be cool. Especially the cookbooks. I've always felt that the best way to get to know a country/culture/ethnic group is through food. That's why whenever the Olympics or the FIFA World Cup come around, we turn it into a party where we cook & eat foods from the host country (or in the case of the World Cup, from the country of the two teams playing in a particular match). But my family has always been an "any excuse to make something into a celebration" kind of family. So, I'm sure it can work for History too. Especially if he turns out to be one of those Hands-On learners. I am, so learning music or recipes or games always makes me connect better with a subject. Make it real, make it relatable.
