One cold night in New York, with snow still on the ground, I left a wonderful performance of Barber of Seville via the underground passage from the lower lobby of the Met under the Lincoln Center plaza, out to a ramp leading up to Broadway. Well, about halfway into the passage, I started to whistle Una Voce Poco Fa. I heard it repeated behind me. So I tuned as a rather tall woman wrapped in a wool coat with her hair covered by a wool knit hat came up along side me. 'It was great, wasn't it,' said I. 'It was fun,' she said. At that instant I realized it was Isabel. 'Ah, Madama,' I replied. After she declined to join me for a late supper, citing a cold, and some pleasantries, Ms. Leonard went up the ramp and headed north on Broadway. There she was. No retinue, no private car, just a New York girl at the top of her form, walking home from work into the cold night. She is the finest Rosina and the finest Cherubino one can remember. Daughter of New York, never forget it.

Jason Gettinger I haven't see her live yet, but the sensation I have when I see her is that she is a really transparent, down to earth, committed artist. She really bring each line to life!
Thanks for sharing this anecdote with all of us.

she is a Godsent to her art. But what stands out in this very beautiful interview, is her incredible wisdom & humility & openness. Kudos to both.

For a gay man, like me: THIS is rude. Finally I've accepted my orientation why I should question it because of Isabel? 😂😂😂😂

What an extraordinary woman. Once in a great while, God gives someone....everything. I love how she uses her hands. I'm a little sad however, because the odds of my having a child with her are slim.

Minnie Driver look alike. I admire her singing, but this is one of the sexiest singers around. Apologies for the shallowness.
