On prosperity that grows without growth
Most things that we produce today are thrown away before someone even has a chance to buy them. That less could be more contradicts our capitalistic production methods. Can we live more sustainably even if we continue to use these production methods? How can we create prosperity without relying solely on economic growth as we know it? During the first part of the event, Tim Jackson explains why we need to develop a post-growth economy. In the following debate between Elmar Altvater and Ralf Krämer, this question will be discussed more in detail. Is it possible to decouple economic growth from resource consumption? What forms could a Green New Deal take and how realistic are they to implement? Where are the limits? And how could alternative, post-capitalist economic models be structured?
