Guinep-Growing Tropical and Exotic fruit in the UK.
How to grow Quenepa (Guinep, Mamoncillo) Tree from Seed.
Quenepa fruit has a lovely sweet flavour and is quite popular in the Caribbean.
This delicious fruit has lot of different names, example, Spanish Lime,Mamoncillo, Quenepa, Guinep to name a few.
It tastes similar to Lychee, but in my view, Guinep is nicer and is one of those exotic fruits that you need to try.
My dad used to make Guinep juice and the taste is just divine, you can even boil the seed and eat, making it a very versatile fruit.
#guinep
I use to eat those like crazy as a child back in Puerto Rico. I remember my older brother choking on one of the seeds and my mother punched him in his back until the seed came flying out scary moment
I had two trees in my yard, I ate these loads as well, love it so much. Good old days, massive choking harzards indeed, good thing your mom did not panic and knew exactly what to do
Guess you miss home, like myself
So much nice fresh food, we took for granted until we moved away
WOW a lot of view Bravo
Fully watched
See you again
YT DRONE, thank you
Omg...I haven’t had guineps since the last time I was back home. Guineps, jackfruits and Julie mangoes are my favourite fruits from back home. Thanks for sharing.
Derron Gooden, they were so nice and sweet and not stainy as all
Plus my little Guinep trees are coming on lovely
Don't you have Asian shops near where you live?
I get most of my Tropical food from there, my guavas, breadfruit, Julie mangos, sugarcane
For an arm and leg though
I do miss Jamaica
But I love my little treats
@@AAHomeGardening I can get it to buy up here, but I just wait until one of my relatives go down or come up to visit and bring me back something delicious.😊😊🇨🇦🇯🇲
@@derrongoodengardenandlifes8655 lucky you, that's good
Next time save some of the seeds
I have no one coming to visit me in this cold place😭 only three times in all my years
So when I see my food from home, I just have to get them
As holiday for four is expensive, so I don't get to go back as often as I want either
@@AAHomeGardening I will make sure I save some.😊😊
@@derrongoodengardenandlifes8655 yes, please do, having tropical plants around me, just reminds me of Jamaica all the time
A little taste of Jamaica is better than none
hoping you keep us updated on this
Thanks for viewing
Will do

See you soon
That’s my favorite fruit I would eat it in Belize where I’m from ❤️ I started a project to grow mines. I have 2 seedlings growing it’s already like 3 inches tall but I need to transfer it to soil.
Glad I bring back good childhood memories.
I had two massive trees in the yard, I grew up and when in season, I was always up the trees for hours, I could not get enough, I like them so much
All four I planted, all sprouted and growing nicely
Yours should transplant nicely, as seedlings are fairly sturdy, mine was straight in soil, so no need transplant yet
Congratulations on starting your project, do keep me updated
Where are you now?
As if you're in a warm climate you might get fruit before I do, and may have to send me some 😄
How’s yours doing? Im about to start first guinep grow.
@@morenitascorp9246 they are doing well thank God! They are about 9-10 inches tall. Had some issues with a fungus on one and the other is doing great. They are still growing in their own container 😊
Tried some in Jamaica while on vacation and now I'm hooked
Charles Jackson, glad you liked them, they are so good, when you get the nice sweet ones
Makes a refreshing drink as well
Nice fruit. Thanks for sharing. I haven't come across this where I am.
254 Nature growers, hopefully you will come across some soon, they are so nice.
It taste similar to lychee
Please keep us updated! I’m growing some now & I did the same steps as what you did! I’m so excited.
So, happy that you have decided to plant one as well
All mine is growing, so yours should be soon as well
Will post an update video this week
Keep an eye out for it
The update video has been posted now
Get ready to wait 15 years for fruit
Wow! I haven’t tried that yet. It looks cool to eat it. New friend here. Thanks for sharing where you are. ❤️
Chill d beat, thank you and welcome to the family
Much appreciated
Yes, it's a delicious fruit, it's similar to lycee, if you have tried that before, really nutritious and a lovely treat indeed
I eat seeds along with the flesh chew it all up and digest it.My wife says that I may be a goat 😁

the guinep is good
hour, guinep is very good indeed
So yummy :)
Zee, yummy fruit indeed
Nice to see this video. I moved from Bronx NY, Where I live now I don't see this fruit i am still hopeful to see it tho.
Does this tree needs another tree of its kind for pollination.
Maureen Williams, thanks for viewing
Guinep is self pollinating, just need some bees or crawling insects around when in bloom
You can buy the seeds online and grow
We don't get where I live often either, this was a massive treat, I was so excited
@@AAHomeGardening thanks for the info. I will check it out. It will be fun for me to grow on as I'm a first time gardner. I was sent your way by Devajones03.🌻😊
@@maureenwilliams4671 no problem
Glad to be of help
If you were local I could ship you seed, but will cost too much
I will definitely show DevaJones03 my appreciation
@@AAHomeGardening thanks for the thought on the seed. 😊
@@maureenwilliams4671 you're welcome sis
How high does the tree grow?
Very tall around 25 meters
Can keep in massive container to restrict growth
And keep cutting
Thank you so much.🤗
Leslie Grier, you're welcome
Any growth yet?
Happy to say, yes 😁
They have burst through seed and root going down
Can see the green stem folded over in the seeds
So, I would say another week or just over a week I should see true leaves coming through
Thanks for checking in
I am so excited
An update video on the Guinep as been posted now
just now i see this kind of fruit
Jenny Alaman, cool
Some can be really sweet
I love these, always ate them in Suriname 🇸🇷. I planted some seeds, how long will it take before the tree grows the fruits?
They do take time, can take up to eight years
Its been so long. Hoping i can get my hands on some seeds and grow some
Ezzy Does It, oh yes guinep is so nice
Hope you will get some seeds soon
Yummy😋👍
Chef Muskan Kitchen 7, thank you
I ordered some from Amazon, how long does it take to ripen??
Norma Walls, you've order some Guinep?
If that what you mean, they will come already ripe and ready to eat
They have green skin, but are ready to eat
@@AAHomeGardening , the insides are white, im used to the orange meat inside.
@@normawalls8935 your parcel came and it's white?
I am used to the light orange ones like I have
Lychee is white and in the same family
Could be lychee
Can you post a picture?
They are green on outside but have the white colored meat..lol im sorry my phone thinks its auto correcting me. They are reg, im just used to the pretty orange colored meat.
@@normawalls8935 ok, were they sweet? - if so, save your seeds
Crack up is only for kids
Exactly
But most people this side not used to this fruit and will allow their kids to have free range
Mi use to get nuh crack up ones in the days
For us Dominicans it is called Limoncillos
Elisur Yeje, ok
Thanks for that
I love eating them, so nice
In Cuba, it's called mamóncillo, pronounced mamon see yo ☺️
How is the Guinep Tree doing? Tired of having to hunt for them in Nottingham when the season starts, thinking of trying to grow a tree also?
Josie Taylor, they are doing well, will post some pictures on the community tap for you
Yes, I hardly see them my side as well
Yes, do plant, when you get hold of some seeds
@@AAHomeGardening Thanks! Think that's going to be the way forward. 😊
Josie Taylor, indeed
I should few guinep seeds left
Can post two to you, if you want
.
@@AAHomeGardening that would be great!!! I will message you via your website. Thank you! 😁
@@JayeBlack ok, will look out for email
Hey
Do you need a particular type of tropical light to grow these? Also, is there a recommended soil I should use?
Producer8z, guinep is not fuzzy
They will grow in any soil, very easy to grow and doesn't required any light
But, if you placed it on a grow mat or under a grow light, it will speed up germination
@@AAHomeGardening thank you very much, eating some now and need more 😄
@@producer8z wow, I haven't had any in ages
Send me some seeds please
I need more plants
We could do an exchange, of a plant that I have that you need
Where are you based?
Only one of my seeds germated but I’m still grateful. How many house should I keep the grow light on?
Miles, congratulations on your seed germination
I tend to keep mine on all throughout Winter
But you can keep it on 8hrs overnight, as that's when it's darkest
Hi Beautiful one! We love those fruits I have been looking for a tree here in Arizona but hard to find... do they grow well from seeds? Thank you for sharing take care
Original Turtle, thank you and welcome to my channel
Yes, they grow well from seed
Plus you're in Arizona, which is warm, so should grow really quickly for you
@@AAHomeGardening Thank you Empress! I’m gonna get some and try it appreciate ya take care!

Hi, I've just bought some guineps to try growing. Do you have to soak the seed before planting or is it okay to just sow in compost?
Llewyn Dixon, congratulations
Just put straight in soil/compost
No need to soak
@@AAHomeGardening great thank you :D
@@LlewynLlewDixon you're welcome
How often do I water them, and do you keep them warm during the winter?
Oya Inspires1, only waters when I can stick my fingers are the way in pot and it's bone dries
I carry indoors during Winter
@@AAHomeGardening thank you so much 😊
@@oyaoasis you're welcome
What do you do when it gets cold??
sheron Holder, I keep as a House plant in Winter
Ideally under a grow light
I want oneeeee

Guinep/Quenepa Update
ua-cam.com/video/Aj1oM3cAjUs/v-deo.html
Takes 15 years to bare fruit I heard
Alotus Nine, ok
From my research it says 8 years
Will keep going and see what happens
How are your guinep/quenepas doing?
@jasminegonzalez2007 looking half dead but alive
It got damaged when I was away in the winter of 2022/23
But I can see new leaves coming through
So still alive
Will do a video soon
@@AAHomeGardening they are still alive 🙌 I live in Florida so I know they will do well here because of climate but I am currently in an apartment with a balcony. I hope to start the seeds on the balcony and then when grown enough transplant outside on my mother's property. Thank you for sharing and responding ❤️ I'm Puerto Rican and we call them quenepas 🌴
@jasminegonzalez2007 you're welcome
You could get a good-sized pot and top it and keep it well maintained, and it should be able to fruit right there on the balcony
Lady we know how to grow guinep tree , is information how lang it tek fu grow to maturity and start bare fruits, and this wasting my time like no dont know to suck on the fruit, SMH😅
We take for granted that everyone knows
But, some people didn't even know what guinep looks like and how to germinate the seeds
They are other videos up, when I give information of how long it will take to fruit etc
