Godzilla once again reviving Hollywood. 1st with GvK showing you can still be a box office success despite Co-Vid. Minus One proved you dont need a huge budget to have a visual masterpiece. GxK brought back movie goers who just wants a fun bombastic blockbuster!!!
@@emilisusas1254 Minus One payed their artists very well. It's just that VFX artists are so less for that movie. All the VFX artists worked in the same room. The director who is also a VFX expert was in the same room throughout the process. Don't assume things.
loved basically everything in the movie , the big g, Kong , Mothra, Suko, Shimo and the Skar king, also i really liked the design of the drownviper , pretty cool for a fodder monster.
The director of this film said that if this film does well he will give us a film that focuses more on godzilla, and from what I'm seeing this film is doing great so it sounds like there's a high chance that you will get your wish
Godzilla is dominating, with Godzilla Minus One and Godzilla x Kong The New Empire, the critics don’t know their head from their butt. Remember it was Godzilla Vs Kong in 2021 that brought people back to the theaters during the pendemic, the MonsterVerse passed the hard test back then, this just shows how strong the fanbase.
Monsterverse isn't really popular and loved as much as in USA in South Korea... But I'm really glad this movie became one of the most successful films in this series!
King of the Monsters should have performed better if it hadn’t gotten sandwiched by other big movies that came out around that time. Examples: John wick 3, how to train your dragon 3, captain marvel, Shazam, Endgame, Toy Story 4, Spider man far from home, detective pikachu, etc.
In fairness to KOTM, it came out 5 years after the 2014 movie with barely anything connecting them. That and considering how it came out after so many people spent their money on Avengers: Endgame and it was doomed to underperform.
Ksi came out in between g14 and kotm and made money regardless. Kotm mostly underperformed due to competition and excessive marketing. Not because of the 5 year gap.
@@Kaiju-bm4ts But Kong: Skull Island was a standalone movie. Yeah, it had the one Godzilla hierogylepth at the end credits, but how many people saw that before they left the theater? Not much.
Disney had a strangle hold on the summer of 2019. Endgame, Aladdin, Toy Story 4, Spiderman and the lion King. I think only Detective Pikachu and John Wick 3 came out successfully.
@@rhedosaurus2251 And does that have to do with kotm?. Cause odds are, if anyone who's not a fan saw the cave paintings. They wouldn't remember ksi when kotm came out years later. I'm surprised it didn't release there sooner. i mean Toho themselves help produce these monsterverse film. I'm shocked its not in the contract to put these out day and date with america they made them wait like a whole month?
This is awesome news and I never would have expected for the movie to be this successful! I couldn't be happier being a Godzilla and Kong fan and I'm so looking forward to what's to come now!
Great! But I hope the next movie will turn the goofiness down a bit. More to a GvK level. Also the fights could be longer and the VFX a little better (quantity over quality)
My opinion for the total box office earnings. 580-600 million due to it grossing 486 million in only it's third week that means there is still alot time for the movie and the monsterverse to continue growing. Also if the movie does meet the studios expectations, it could become the highest grossing film in both Kong's and Godzilla's franchises. Edit: 570 million!! LETS GOO!!
I'm beyond HAPPY with the success of the Monsterverse, despite all odds this universe is still standing and going forward and that's so cool that in less of 6 month apart WE GOT 3 DIFFERENT SUCCESSFUL Godzilla projects all been succesful, Monarch Legacy of Monsters, Minus One and The New Empire, I said once and I'll say it again....we are living in a NEW GOLDEN AGE KAIJU era, so many different monsters projects, now all we need is GAMERA returning to live action, a new solo Kong and Goji films, maybe a Pacific Rim revival, and a cross over between Gamera and Godzilla finally happen to say that we have ALL.
it almost certainly will the question is how far past? i think if this movie has legs it could reach 600 maybe even 700 mil if lucky. we are still only 3 weeks in. Dune 2 came out like 3 months ago and that movies still making money in some theaters. and this still has yet to be released in some countries most notably Japan Godzillas home country no way its not a hit there. its passing 500 mil this weekend mark my words its not even in question
I love this movie. The only minor nitpick I have was that Shimo was built up as the final boss that was more powerful than anything, and we never really got to see that. We were _told_ Shimo was scary, but we didn’t really _see_ it. It felt like it wasn’t even intelligent like Godzilla and Kong are, just a dumb animal, like a horse or a dog. And not even a bright dog like a shepherd but a dumb one like a boxer or English bulldog. Shimo goes from being ridden by Scar king directly to being ridden by kong. No big freeing moment, no discernible desire or goal, just from one master to the next. It felt like a letdown. The chin scratches, while cute, also further the dumb animal vibes. Shimo was talked up like it was cold as ice, but ended up only being lukewarm. That being said, I don’t think I’ve had more fun watching a film in a LONG time. 9.5/10 will watch again.
We were never told shimo is scary, the leaks made it pretty clear shimo was passive when not under any control. The fandom overhyped her and created the false expectation she was another ghidorah when she never was meant to be. Blame the fandom for creating that false hype, not so much the trailers which focused more on making skar king terrifying rather than shimo. Could shimo been sadistic like skar king? Absolutely but was it promised? Absolutely not.
She started an ice age, that's enough feat for an ancient monster. It's the fact that she has no agenda on her own's quite surprising for me, and it's quite refreshing, she could undo the climate change for all i care. As of now, Shimo's a Mothra type of monster.
I curious about how much of the general audience watched it vs the amount of fans rewatching multiple times. Example is like 40,000 general people watched it once but 12,000 fans rewatched it at least 2 times, so in the end they outdid the general audience. The fans are probably the reason this movie is doing well because they rewatch it multiple times.
$518 million I guess is gonna be the full final box office of GxK. It somehow underperfomed since its second weekend, but it surely perfomed better than KOTM and GvK.
And with this ammount of money that they have earned, maybe we wont have to wait for 3 years for another movie! Maybe it will only be 2 years, who knows?
yeah thats my main problem with the monsterverse they take to long to come out. yeah it help not oversaturate them and allows us plenty of time to build hype for the next one but like Marvel puts out like 3-4 movies a year. also maybe do spin offs. Godzilla and Kong can't just be this entire universe maybe give Mothra a solo movie on maybe a smaller budget
The reason is simple it was properly advertised, and it delivered on what it promised, i.e., more kajiu action and the reveal of the rest of kong species, along with more time seeing the hollow earth
Only reason KOTM performed poorly is because it released only 1 week before Avengers Endgame! Had it opened a few weeks earlier it would done very well. WB screwed the pooch on that one.
As much as I love how successful this is and the many projects that will follow, a concern popped in mind. I'm worried about over-saturation. I feel like one of the thing that kills off superhero movies are over-saturation. It focused too much on quantity, pumping up movies and series without much consideration of the quality. But all supposed to be connected, so it became a homework for ppl to just enjoy a single movie, cuz you need to watch multiple shows and movies for context. Having too much at a short amount of time could also led to boredom and fatigue. I hope Legendary learns from the superhero mistake and manage their excitement more. Keep spacing out releases like the past 5 movies, and let the TV shows being the expansion but not the essential. Unlike with Marvel, how those shows are a prequel to following movies. I hope the studios will plan out the future of Monsterverse well and carefully, so that it won't died out soon.
