Hahahaa I was thinking the same thing!
Fun fact:
Crows have a history in being best friends with wolves. Crows often used to drop sticks from the trees for wolf pups to grab. Essentially playing some form of fetch. So dogs playing fetch is already hardwired into their brains due to crows.
Crows also flew behind pray that wolves are chasing so the wolves don’t lose it. In return the crow gets some of the meal if it was successfully caught.
So it’s not much of a surprise that Pepe and Xena grew attached almost immediately.
Mans best friend more like birds best friends

I love how smart crows are, especially when they trust someone - they'll actually pass that info on to other crows (especially family) about good humans so they know who is/isn't a threat
Generally it's incredible how smart most animals are.
@@JacktheRah Agreed!
That is amazing 💗💗
The more I think about it the more I realize they were/are smart. We are the ones to "realize" damn, animals are smart. They can't do calculous or build a rocket, but they survive and adapt in ways we cannot yet fathom. Lemme know the next time a hurricane or fire comes and your home is outside in a tree or on the ground. Animals are gone hours before. We still see people sitting on their roof, house flooded waiting for a helicopter. Like I said, they are smart.
Crows have a photographic memory!

Better yet I prefer a raven...
We had a crow when I was a kid! He fell out of the nest into our garden and sadly the parents abandoned him. Once he was old enough to go back into the wild he did so, but returned almost every day to spend time with us. He even began imitating our voices like a parrot would. He also knew exactly who was part of the family and who wasn't. They are scary smart.

KEEP that crow
He imprinted on you because he was so young and most likely see’s you as his parents or siblings. We had a Crow show up on my doorstep with a broken wing, he was actually crowing and pecking the door to get our attention to help. We nursed him back to health and even taught him how to mimic some human words. We released him after about 5 or 6 months but he would still visit us every day for scratches and pets. They’re incredibly intelligent sentient beings.
He was too old to imprint, so he didn’t imprint on her.
@@vinny_rivera I've heard of exception cases in moments of critical stress/trauma.
@@mikesexton8902 Those aren’t parent/sibling type, it’s a mate type
I'm actually not surprised he managed to bond with the dog, flocks of ravens (another bird in the Corvus family closely related to crows) in the wild will often bond with packs of dogs. The ravens help search for prey from the air and lead the wolves to it, in exchange the wolves tenderize the flesh of the prey for the ravens to share with them.
And it's not solely business too, because ravens will play with wolf pups. If they stopped hunting today, they'd likely still hang around each other.
This has been going on long enough that it's thought to be the influence behind Odin's depiction as traveling with a pair of wolves and ravens.
So as odd as this thing may seem, it's likely not the first time this has happened. Having a crow and a dog is also the closest you might come to being a god.
@Redeye Animal symbiosis. Kind of what humanity should be about, but no, we have to be maniacal gorillas with machine guns and excavators instead.
ua-cam.com/video/oa5OaunvLGg/v-deo.html
@@carpetclimber4027 Actually, there are several examples of human-animal symbiosis, historically and in modern times.
The most obvious one is dogs, of course. They were hanging out with our ancestors long before we ever figured out animal husbandry. There is also a kind of bird called a honeyguide, of which there are several types living throughout africa and asia. They'll actually lead people to honey bee nests, and the human honey hunter will naturally leave bits of comb, honey, and larva behind for the bird to feast on. Experienced honey hunter actually know a call that will attract honeyguides to help them out- it's actually pretty cool to watch. These are just two I can think of off the top of my head, but I'd bet real money there are more.
Of course- animals coming into conflict with other animals is nothing new either- just as humans coming into conflict with animals isn't.
Thing is, that kind of Symbiosis take a long time to evolve naturally. Humans aren't just the new kid on the block, we're far and away from the region and biome our species developed in (which is believed to be the fertile crescent around Africa. Very few people live there now.)
Man that's amazing 😁 such a cool animal both dogs and ravens ❤️
@@carpetclimber4027 dont worry, they capitalize on that one too. crows would recognize and follow armies around, hoping people would kill each other so they could catch a few snacks. hence why they are considered a bad omen

This was in 1967. I was 7 yrs old

I am so very happy that he doesn't trust strangers and that he only trusts his family . Crows are very incredibly smart and this will help him with survival
Cant believe no one reconside you for 8 months
tbh its more likely that the crow sees their guardian as a mate - you can see the crow wiggling its tail and the human touching the bird WAY down its head, which is sexually stimulating and not petting really. you must trust your mate since crows mate for life and raise children each year
My mom rescued a crow when I was young. She nursed it back to health and he loved everyone in the family including the dogs. The dogs tolerated the crow., he would ride on their backs. He came to the window and knocked with his beak when he wanted in and we just opened the window and let him in. Left the window open so he could leave. He usually stayed for hours. I'll always remember Mr. Crow!

Crows and ravens have extremely good facial recognition, which is why most of the time even if returned to the wild and contact is limited, they still remember. That is why Pepe is okay with your family but still leery of others he doesn't know.

You're so fortunate that Pepe took up with other crows when he started flying. My crow was just learning, when a hawk killed her. She just didn't know, and there were no other crows to teach her. How do you befriend a crow. All the birds come to our yard with the exception of crows. Once in a blue moon (mostly winter) they stop by and watch from above. I put food (compost, seeds, bird food) and water. Othertimes they get chased by grackles. Mostly it happens in the spring and summer months.

The part where he just looked at you while you were petting him was GOLD. The affection is visible in his eyes. i truly love this. i used to have a few pet birds and my favorite one was a Yellow-vented Bulbul. i raised it before it even hatched out of its nest until it died 5 years later. I loved that bird to bits. IMO, birds are the most beautiful animal on the planet. Hands down.
sorry but imagine someone who feeds you also "pets" you around the nipples all the time, ofc there's gonna be hella affection in your eyes. the tail wiggle an obvious indication of a mating behavior, which all birds express, and birds in captivity get sexually frustrated with no same-species mates around and hormones kicking, and now there's a human constantly stimulating. pet bird owners usually know they shouldn't touch their birds anything but head. getting hormonal without action may lead to all sorts of problems, given captive bird (even if rescued) is already in pretty unconventional conditions. i love corvids too, both for their looks and intelligence, but anthropomorphism is an easy trap to fall into. animals are much more unique and interesting than watered down versions of humans (;
Haha "You won't believe that Pepe has human pets" 🤣 Great story and so thankful for people who care for animals!

Best human pets ever and he should be proud to show them off to his crow pals.
He's a lucky crow and clearly appreciates his family of pet humans and the dog that looks after them when he's away ❤
My uncle found a small crow. We called him Bobby. He had stunning blue eyes and never fully lost them. They became more gray-ish but never black like on most crows. He stayed with uncle for around a year and a few months. He would perch on his shoulder and groom him, they tried to give him to a rescue but he wouldn't eat and would try to escape, so they took him back. Eventually he flew off on his own and never came. Last time we saw him was with a flock of pigeons, we are sure it was him because of the eyes and that he turned to look at us when he called him.
Pepe's so fortunate to live with his humans yet still be wild. And I love the friendship with Zena. Who are the pets here?😅 Once as I was walking my dog, I came upon a crow wings spread on the grass near the sidewalk. Since I thought he was injured, I called a wildlife rescue, but when I returned later, he was gone. So I guess I can rest easy now knowing that crow was just "sunbathing"!😎
This is delightful & so special. What a fantastic woman. I love this. Efforts have brought enormous rewards!
This is fantastic. What a great way to co-exist with nature and learn about animal behavior at the same time. God bless Pepe and his friends.
"Pepe has human pets!" Great line.
i really hope animals think like this, i hope my hamster and dog think i’m their pet :)
The used mascara wand gift was cool! He thought this is a human thing-e for a girl so surly she will love it! When you think about it, it is actually quite brilliant because he must have seen a human female using one and figured it would make a great gift. What an amazing bird and a wonderful human family who took him in!
Cheers
all that's left is to teach him that what humans actually really like is money
Unlikely he thought about her being a female in regards to the gift. In fact I'd be money it has absolutely nothing to do with it. I do agree that he recognized it as a human item and thought it would make a good gift for his human.

You may be right, however; I had an African Grey growing up named Bird and I can assure you he absolutely could tell the difference between a male and female human being. He didn’t like most men, only allowing my stepfather to handle him. He was aggressive towards males, even male children like my little brother, but anytime a female walked in the room Bird would whistle at them 😱 sometimes he would even say “pretty girl” after he whistled. So, I believe crows and black birds are just as intelligent as Bird was and able to tell the difference between male and female humans 🤔
Cheers
@@georgiishmakov9588 you know there have been cases of crows being trained to steal

Mein Herz wurde warm durch diese Geschichte. Liebe Leute.❤❤
I love you guys …you treat animals right and gentle ❤
This is what my heaven would be like, every animal is your best friend.
I always felt the same! I remember when the pastor at our church told me that animals didn't go to heaven. I told him I didn't believe that. I know they have soul's and talk to us! (Cause he had said it was because they didn't have soul's!) He just wasn't listening right! I had helped/cared for, many animals on our farm. Watching them love and play with me. I knew they'd make it to my heaven.
@@bonnielass3975 don’t let any person tell you about heaven. Theyve never been there or met it’s residents! Listen to your heart ❤️
Me to
Very smart attempt with the recording and helping maybe parents locate the baby. The baby version of the crow as a pudgy little crow is so cute! 1:53
Crows are *incredibly* intelligent. What a beautiful story and friendship! ♥♥♥
Even though indistinct to human ears, all birds have their own unique call, and crows are known to remember people.
Pepe here definitely recognizes you by your voice calling his name, and knows your mannerisms, letting him feel safe around you.
You should get him some crow puzzles. They love to solve them for treats.
THAT is true !! That's why they have stinky breath!
UNIQUE FOR SURE ! ☯️
This crow will remember everything.
And he will tell to his children and friends about everything.
The dog playing tug of war with a crow is amazing. That is such a gentle dog
Omg, I'm tearing up, it's like watching a mirror of my story with my pet starling,
Even down to the silly sun bathing faces, lol! What a beautiful bond.
Aww my heart🖤 This reminds me over a baby crow I saved years and years ago! His name was Arrow. He had a sibling, Bow, but Bow sadly passed away. I rehabilitated Arrow and when he got strong enough, he flew away. It broke my heart when I went to check on him that day and he wasn't there. But to my surprise, later that day, I heard a tapping noise at my bedroom window...it was him! I was thrilled! He'd come hang out with me nearly every day for 7 years! He'd perch on my shoulder and nuzzle my neck hehe🥰 Such an awesome bird. I miss him dearly. When he stopped showing up, I assumed he had passed away. I'll never forget him🖤 RIP Arrow💗
Pepe is just chilling with his peeps. That bit when they are walking the dog and he flies over and lands and starts walking along with them 😀
A wonderful story. Pepe has the best of both worlds: he's a wild, free bird who chooses to socialise with you. He clearly recognises you as friends because you looked after him. I hope you have a long relationship with him.
Crows are highly intelligent animals, just like parrots, chimps and dolphins.
Every minute spent with a wild animal is so rewarding and precious
I love the little noise they make when as they’re crying for food, they suddenly get it. It’s like a happy little mumble. 😂
1:32 I thought that was a cigarette lmao I swear
Never forget how privileged you are for having this experience lady. Thnk you for sharing a bit of it with us.
This is absolutely beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤❤crows are amazing loyal beings with Grt memory, its amazing too see their friendship blossom ❤❤❤❤
I rescued a very small crow that had fallen 20 feet from its nest we put him in a Macaw cage outside and after treating for a serious mite infestation and nursing him back to health I named him crowbar because he would take his beak and push my hand up to put his head under my palm after about 3 months he saw a flock flying over and flew off but he came back every couple of days to visit and get some jumbo meal worms. He would come back less frequently over about two years but I'll never forget my buddy crowbar most interesting intelligent bird I ever rescued, if people only knew the truth about them they wouldn't have such a bad stigma. Thank you for posting this video.
Thanks for sharing
4:04 "OMG BRO HOW IS HE ABLE TO TAME A WILD HUMAN LIKE THAT?"
I have tears in my eyes watching this. Amazing story!
What great parenting well done 👍 lovely to hear he got the chance to be in his natural environment and still rely on his instincts with some healthy balance of human domestic life. He’s so beautiful ❤
