  • The science of aeroponics opens the door for people everywhere to take control of their food supply and grow their own fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs at home.
    Vertical farming with Tower Gardens has been around for years but many people still tend to think of farming as needing organic soil and acres and acres of land. If you rethink farming, you can actually grow a variety of plants without any soil and 95% less water.
    Going vertical also requires 90% less space, so you only need a tenth of what you would traditionally need. That means growing your favorite fruits, vegetables, and herbs outdoors as well as indoors with efficient LED grow lamps. This tower to table mindset will shift the way you view farming, gardening, and how you buy produce.

    We had a tower garden assembly given to us a few years ago. We had no idea what to do with it. A month ago, we decided to give it a try, so my husband cleaned out the leftover roots that had been in it since we got it. We went to True Garden in Mesa, and learned a few things, and picked up a timer and the nutrients and tother things we had been told we needed. We started the water and nutrients, and set up the timer. After 3 days, we picked up the seedlings. Wow...planting in a tower is so easy! Yesterday afternoon, we went out to harvest a few things, and honestly, some things we weren't sure of...what IS this? So we snipped of some of everything except the obvious tomatoes or cucumbers, and made a huge salad! We'd never had micro greens before...All I can say is that in less than a month, we are having the best salad we've ever had...and didn't even have tomatoes yet! We looked at each other, and said...this tastes...not just good, but full, whole and, well, healthy! We loved every bite! Now we are getting excited! This is so rewarding to actually have edible produce, that is healthy so very fast! I wish I had more tower gardens!

    Sounds good but the biggest problem is the initial cost and the problem of power usage. Solar power in a desert would probably be best, but if you want a battery then that will increase the initial cost even more. All this initial cost is only worth it if you will make enough money out of this.
    tldr: too high initial cost, takes too long to earn enough money to pay for itself

    were the towers already tested with a fish culture in the bottom water tank, which then would provide the nutrients to the plants?

    How about putting towers over a pool of fish waste water?

      Aquaponics is another great method of sustainable growing. Each form of urban farming has a place and environment that works best for it. We found this to be the most practical and sustainable system for our environment. But we have worked with some great people in various forms of modern urban farming and support them all.

    So you save on water and spend way more on infrastructure and maintenance. Plant native plants in soil.

    Hydroponic veggies are devoid of nutrients. Most of the plants derive their nutrition from their root system developing in nutrient dense soil. Today’s problems with growing veggies in soil is the soil layer used for farming is no longer nutrient dense. So, you chew on that broccoli or kale, but it gives you close to no calcium or vitamins. Nice marketing with hydroponics, but ultimately, I want my veggies grown the better way.

    If we are all going to live on salad greens and herbs, this is great. But without the ability to grow root vegetables and legumes, we aren't leaving the ground.

    • @TrueGarden
      @TrueGarden 2 роки тому

      Scott, you are absolutely right. This isn't a replacement for all farming, but it is a viable solution for urban areas, deserts, and any place where traditional growing methods aren't realistic. It also reduces the travel of many types of produce over long distances.
