  • Mark Conklin is the founder of Every Leader’s Journey, and co-founder with his wife Joy of Wise Counsel, Inc. I’m proud that they’ve become a big part of our Village Church family.
Last year, Kathy Baldock was in town for Matt and Alejandro’s wedding. She had a couple hours after church before she had to fly home to Reno, and I asked Mark Conklin to interview her. If you don’t yet know Kathy, you will not only know her after watching this interview. You will love her.
She’s an author, an LGBT+ advocate, international speaker, and an educator.
If you find value in conversations like these, as part of the Village 3.0, we want to produce more things like this and we would value your help so we can produce important conversations like this. The information is on the screen.
This is part one of two conversations with Mark and Kathy. It’s her moving story about how her life was rocked by divorce, and transformed when she discovered that being gay and Christian is not only possible, but that gay Christians are some of the most lovely followers of Jesus you could ever know.

Kathy, reminds me of Sylvia Pennington, who wrote 3 books in the 80s and 90s before her passing. Her first one being," But Lord, They're Gay." Her journey on how the Lord brought her around. She was also a straight woman with no gay Children. Truly enjoyed the interview. Looking forward to the other interviews..

I have never heard of Kathy or this ministry. I "accidentally" came upon it today. First I want to make a comment about her view which I believe was very "incorrect" on Biblical submission. It does not mean that women have to be silent when her husband is being a fool. Or being unfaithful either. It does not mean that she /we should have no input into any matters within the home. I was also guilty of not standing up to my husband when he was being "an angry, bully" to our children and to me. I was always afraid quite honestly but I do regret that and pray that any harm that was done was also healed in our children but I believe I still have some CPTSD from it although it has gotten better and Praise God our relationship has improved greatly after 31 years. He had his own issues that he was not dealing with from his own past - trauma doesn't go away on its own - actually it never goes away. But I digress that we have to make sure that we are understanding the Bible in its correct interpretation and ALOT of Christian women/men have ALOT of ideas about how that should look - when we look to anyone but Jesus Christ as our example we will get it wrong. The proper interpretation of scripture is VITAL to a healthy Christian relationship and life. Even so, there are differences - always will be. ANYWAY, as a mother of a gay son I enjoyed listening to this interview and I love Kathy's heart. I know that my son is an amazing person and he is gay. I do believe that gay sex is not what God created for men and women to share. But I believe there are some heterosexual behaviors that are not as God intended either. I don't believe that "just because I'm married - heterosexual - we can do anything we want - everything is acceptable". Is Porn ever acceptable? or some of these other weird sado masochistic sexual acts etc. ?? I don't think so. We should lust only for our beloved spouse. But I do not believe that anything is acceptable or honoring to the Lord. I'm praying for a loophole of course that would make it OK for my son to be gay - that they discover a gene or something that links homosexual behavior to genetics. He is not walking with God - completely denounced his faith in God several years ago - most likely because of his being gay and his belief that Christians hate gay people. It's so sad but I don't give up Hope. I'm trying to live according to God's Word - I pray for TRUTH - I don't want to compromise - but anyway, thank you for loving gay and lesbian people and not being ashamed of it. You are courageous and kind and I look forward to seeing what God is going to do through that. I pray that you will stay uncompromised according to God's word but still maintain a loving relationship with this community of people who just want to live their life for God's honor and goodness and affect other's to Him - not to the Gay community but to Jesus Christ! God bless you.

@@leslielutz6028HI I just wanted to say that although there's no known gay gene there are scientific studies revealing similarities between certain structures of heterosexual women's brains and gay men's brains. Similarly between areas of heterosexual men's brains and gay women's. You can Google the studies with a search like "similarities between brain structures of heterosexual women and gay men". There are also studies revealing correlation between certain hormonal shifts and immunity during pregnancy with development of a child's sexual orientation. Whatever your faith tells you to do with these insights is another matter, but I hope you get to prayerfully look into these studies. I think it's interesting to consider that, in light of scripture that tells us that God knew us and knit us together in the womb, he knit some of us with significantly different looking brains than most. And it stands to reason that such individuals would experience and relate to the world differently than most as well. I hope your research leads you and your son to greater peace

You can be gay and Christian, but it is better to be rational and leave behind the world of backward superstition.

Here is the challenge… either you Kathy are right and God is not, either His word is true and or your word is, either whatever you sense and feel is measured by what you think is right or God’s word which is the standard and bastion of truth is not… Joshua said it best… Choose you this day who you will serve… choose life. (I know the fire is gonna come) but that’s ok. God is not a man that He should lie…

@@terrybain828 it sounds like you're looking for the man dressed in fine clothing who lives in a castle not the stone the builders rejected. God finds value in what isn't good enough for the perfectionists.
