I know it's not technically a game but Phantom Liberty was my personal GotY because it displayed how much Cyberpunk has improved over the years
PL was really incredible but it's not even in the same league as BG3
@03Radamo Okay Kanye.
@@03RadamoBG3 is boring trash. Stop hype this bad game.
@@darkgoddarkseid2824 yeah dude you're right and the universal acclaim is wrong...
@@03Radamo Napoleon's entire general staff and army corp of officers told him that winter wear for the Russian campaign was unnecessary because the war would be over by autumn. Napoleon listened to the majority consensus and didn't think for himself, this decision led to the loss of 500,000 men. The lesson from history tells us, just because a lot of people think and say one way, doesn't mean they are correct.
After 3 years, we made it chooms.
I absolutely love how Pawel called out all of the players and thanked us for the memes and continued support. You can tell this guy loves what he does and I support him 150%. I swear CDPR are the best game developers ever. Been with them since Witcher 1 first dropped. I will not let one screw up tarnish their reputation after all they've done for their players since they were founded. Swear if I was rich. I'd be a majority shareholder in their company and ensure they retain their player focused business strategy against the cancer that is live service and microtransactions in the gaming industry. Seriously besides the equally incredible Larian Studios, they are the last bastion of legendary story makers in the gaming industry.
One of my good friends who is an experienced software engineer was talking to me about Cyberpunk back around the time of patch 1.2 when its problems were still just so severe. He said, "Trust me, this game is cooked. There's just not much they can do. It's fundamentally broken at its core, and I see CD Projekt abandoning it by the end of the summer." He was wrong. He was so, so very wrong. This game has endured and, I think, surprised everyone.
Then him saying it was severe meant nothing. And alot of the problems the game had wasn't all that bad
Because they have no game, all their Live Service games flop and canceled Gwent and Monster Slayer, the reason they are doing these fixes is to clean their image for the next game, NOT FOR YOU. They were publically traded companies, and you don't want your stock to be dropped to be bought either by Sony, Tencent, and Microsoft,.
@greedyyawgoo5635 CDPR literally made one of the best games of the 2010s and your still saying this? Witcher is STILL GETTING UPDATED TO THIS DAY. You're delusional
@@nolanboerger2162 does that apply to Cyberpunk and it's atrocious launch?

They'll Never Fade Away
Been there from launch till Phantom liberty. Thanks for not letting this game die.
I think CDPR knows what they're doing now. I think the sequel for CP2077 will be legendary now that they are no longer working from complete scratch. Also they altered their strategy for development. Rather than having seperate departments. They incorporated all of their departments into mixed teams. So basically animation, programming, art, and story designers all work together in comingled teams. It is an amazingly smart move. It's why Phantom Liberty was so air tight and amazing on launch.
Same here, i paid full price for both, base game and dlc, and it was worth every cent
Like NMS, this win marks the final cap in Cyberpunk's redemption arc.
Aptly put
It’s easy to pull off that shit when CD Projekt Red is a triple A studio

It’s okay to be mad at the executives but the devs are the ones who brought this masterpiece of a game to life
And by masterpiece you mean a broken piece of mess that they shipped out to stores where a bunch of paid shills talk great about it?
Watching this game evolve from Day 1 until now has been an amazing journey. Comeback legend!

It seems like a lot of people are going back to Cyberpunk 2077 so this is amazing
The CD Projeck team's story of the journey of creating cyberpunk 2077 since day one until today is as intense as the storyline of the cyberpunk game 🎉🎉🎉 So inspiring!
Bought it on sale in November, and I've played over 100 hours already (without Phantom Liberty).
The world (Night City), the soundtrack and sound design, the cyberware mods and super fun combat (double jumping, slow-mos etc.), the very well-written characters and immersive story - it's so good, and I love just turning off most HUD and walking/running to every location instead of driving or fast travelling.
But I still regret buying CDPR stocks as my first stock investment, a few months before Cyberpunk launched though, LOL. Lesson learned :D
It's good, just not an ongoing game xD
The two best on that list are Genshin and FFXIV, and it should have been one of those. Consistently great content should, in a perfect world, trump all.
@@Yuyu5001 yeah, you're right - winning this award is very misleading as an "ongoing" game.
But you need to try asap Phantom Liberty
@bcbitchkkv they should introduce a Best Add on category as others stated. No complaints then, and I really enjoyed quite a few game add ons this year outside of CP! They did a relly good job with it, no question.
@@WhyDoINeedOneOfThese lol
To think that Cyberpunk 2077 is a continuously played SINGLE PLAYER game, with no multiplayer component or any emphasis on random boss fights. There is a scripted story, side quests, and a persistent open world. But it's content and the way that they continued to improve it is what keeps players playing.
Cyberpunk winning this award for them making the game what it should have been at launch is crazy. Literally any of the other nominees should have won.
Its hard to define "best ongoing game". Like isn't it CS and DotA and LoL and any mmo and shit? And cyberpunk is the only one that has no tricks to keep you in game all the time, daily missions and shit. I think they did deserved at least 1 award for making this story, not abandoning the game and releasing a dlc
@@petrick8556 "making the game that it should have been at launch" is such a misconception. Popular saying, but a misconception. Almost none of the new features added this year for updates 2.0, 2.1 and Phantom Liberty were in the official gameplay trailers and Night City Live episodes prior to launch. In fact, I could only think of the thermal katana. You can fact-check me if you want by watching the official gameplay trailers, the ones with no disclaimer that it's a work in progress and everything is subject to change, as well as the four or five Night City episodes.
They didn't fix the game recently - they did that a long time ago. Despite the bugs at launch, it was never a bad game in the first place. Phantom Liberty and the 2.0 were just phenomenal and are rightly giving the game the attention and praise it deserves.
You might want to play Cyberpunk now to get a better perspective on why this award is deserved. Negative Nancy.

Video Game studios can get away with ANYTHING. If you can release a broken ass game at launch and win an award for it later down the line, of course companies will keep doing that. Games as a service are crushing this industry.
I can see a future where game devs can bust into my house, steal all my money and win a nobel peace prize.
Yet you forget the part where they apologize, fixed, and enhanced the game to something amazing, sure if may or should have been that from the start but that wasn't on them, and they could have not done all that, don't forget all the facts if your gonna talk about something
@@kabukiuchiha6020 TLDR: You're crazy.
Yet you forget congratulating the game after the blunder it was encourages the studios to repeat this in the future, sending a message to other studios they can get away with it too, releasing unplayable experiences at the cost of the developers reputation because of greedy corporate suits pushing the game to maximize profits. Plus all the crunch that happened to the devs putting at risk their mental health.
The game was released in a total BROKEN state and yet they got away with an award. This is not a win for the consumer it's a win for the studio management.
The fix it later mentality hurts the consumer. They flew the "the game is fixed" banner like it was something to be proud of.
IG I'm old fashioned and want what was advertised to me by the trailers prior to release when buying it and want my hard earned money to buy something quality and not have to wait in the corner like I did something wrong for my toy to be ready to play.
I mean no offense to you, I can see you like the game. But saying "but... they apologized for it" about a 2 billion dollar company and patting them in the head saying "I forgive you"?? Are you insane? That's a 16 year old take on the matter.
@@nobyra TLDR: I'm sane and look at the full story, not only take part of it and leave out the important parts to get my point across, when they as a company fully repeat this same mistake then you can say what you said, but even in the case of cyberpunk it wasn't there decision, shareholders, higher ups, and corporate suit who pushed impossible deadlines and crunch time so nothing got done isn't on the devs and studio when they do all they can, and treating it like it is, is really pathetic.
Yes the game was released in a broken state (for some obviously not all) but it didn't get an award for that, it got an award for sticking by it as their mistake and felt the need to fix and support it through the future that's what that award stands for, and the game is fixed IS something to be proud of for themselves and the fans who enjoyed the game even in the state it was in and wanted to see it at it's full potential, but I guess that's wrong of them or anyone to want apparently.
You're fine being old fashioned, but expecting anything to be what it is when you buy it and is shown always has a chance of NOT being what it is, disappointment is a word, and often enough it most people experience it one way or another, in literally anything's case, and yeah you don't wanna have it be like that but it sometimes is and there's always a difference especially with intent is a factor
There are worse companies even doing absolutely worse things than trying to fix a game and give it redemption, most just don't do that either, I'm not saying it's alright but are we really just gonna ignore all the effort and say "eh they didn't do anything special"
@@kabukiuchiha6020
#1 I already did say it was corporate suits fault, and that is EXACTLY the problem.
#2 saying disappointments hapoen in life is not an excuse. This is a filthy rich company not an indie dev.
#3 saying other companies are doing worse thingw doesn't make the former a lesser bad thing.
My problem is not the game exactly. But the future repercussions. Just like how Bethesda put horse armor in the game, people got mad and still microtransactions became huge. Like how no mans sky was also unfinished at launch and got fixed later. Once a door is open is hard to close it. For sure fixing the game is a good thing, better than nothing, but it makes the future look really sad for video games.
Im glad you're enjoying the game though. I'll stop arguing to avoid getting sad about it. Have a good day bro.
@@nobyra you say corporate suits yet you keep pointing the finger and blame at the studio that may have money but their not the corporate suits themselves make up your mind at who your pointing the finger at then, and I never said disappointment is an excuse it's just how things are in life, you don't want to be disappointed but you will sometimes.
In my comparison it literally does, like you can either keep this game that is messed up to all hell on its own, or you can have this game that's not as messed up and has slight improvements, one is worse than the other.
I understand the worry of future repercussions, if anything cyberpunk and the studio should be seen as a reminder of how staying with something that you enjoy and genuinely like can lead you to great things even if it started out rough, and I mean you could say that's up to the gamers and people that play, but in all honesty there will always be someone to buy something that's either half baked or incomplete just for the sake of it or, because to them they genuinely like or want it, or more so for popularity since it's the new shiny thing, like look at the new Cod Mw3, pretty much a full game price DLC with mediocre all around yet people swarm to it like moths to a flame, it's just bewildering.
And yeah me and my friend very much enjoy the game, have a good one too.
Well done, Chooms!
the redemption arc of this game is astonishing. others, maybe anyone but CD Project Red, would have abandoned.
When you re-release the same game but on different consoles and pretend like you been working on it this whole time. When you abandon your other players from older consoles and pretend they do not exist and massive block on social media cause they complain your game still doesn't work correctly. Then you release a dlc and also pretend like your game was somehow ongoing. Ongoing means that the content for the game is constantly going out and is not just some useless patch or three year old dlc. This award win is a complete joke and leaves bad taste in my mouth. CDPR didn't deserve this win and I am saying that as a Polish person who finished Cyberpunk when it originally lunched. FF14, Genshin or Fornite deserve this award more than Cyberdunk because they haven't abandoned their communities and been giving them content this whole time for over many years. Shame on you Game Awards, shame on you!!
now all developers will try to do like them, release unfinished games and hope people will buy them. The games will be fixed through a patch after making a profit from the sale of unfinished games. Look what happens to The Day Before...
And I hope investors and stupid players will not push reds anymore, because give them time and they will make a masterpiece, and don't forget that they released this game during covid, when companies have no idea how to organize so many people remotely
Yessss cyberpunk won best on going game, well deserved it.

I absolutely hate how people praise the game as if it's the best thing ever, also ignoring what has happened with the game since it's beginning, it's so fking sad that developers see that and well be more encouraged to make garbage and ask full price for it, because ''trust us, it will get better!''
If you’re still trying to or are just not willing to play on or invest in better gear you’ll likely if not exactly get the same undesirable results. This game was never really made for console or a chrome book or handhelds tablets etc etc it was made for rigs, powerful pcs, where gamers who appreciate every detail and is willing to work to build a machine that brings them joy. I can almost guarantee that most of you that are on here with your hearts on your sleeves are either playing on consoles or on older and out dated rigs. There used to be a saying “will it run crysis” this isn’t anything new!

Love how cdpr just shook lariants hands before receiving their award. Literally my two favorite gaming studios😂
Patch 2.0, Phantom Liberty followed by recent patch 2.1 really redeemed this game. What an amazing game it is now.
I think 2.1 caused more bugs than expected. They rushed it out too fast. Unless you enjoy riding around the monorail.
It became an ongoing game because they needed to fix those bugs for 3 years, and by the way Game Awards, you should lessen this appearance of Hollywood celebrities who had no involvement in video games, like voice or likeness used, Video Game devs and voice talent should be taking more of the spotlight
I remember playing cyberpunk for the first time in Xbox one, it was buggy and janky AF, but every single bug that broke immersion or the games story was only so upsetting because of how amazing the core of the game is, the story, the gameplay, the beauty contrasting the scum of night city.
I saw a diamond in the rough back then, and I'm happy to see the developers still polishing it today. Cyberpunk has been my game of the year for several years now. It's an amazing game and a such an immersive experience.
It's not perfect, far from it, but it is a great game and the developers deserve this reward for their dedication and hard work.

we live in a timeline when single players game are considered "ongoing", let that sink in 😂
Why not? You wouldn't want a single player game with added improvements/features? The category isn't "Service" games, and even some of those can be played solo.
@@Alex_Logan22 I would want single player games coming out complete and not launching unfinished to begin with.
Also: while the category isn't "Service" games, 4 out of the 5 are indeed one. The only reason CP is even there is because of the reason above + it got a DLC.
By that same standard, other games that got updates and/or a DLC recently should've been nominated, right?
No, we live in a time where people are so clueless about the gaming industry that they go online making these horrible takes with no one stopping them. What do you know outside of pushing plastic buttons on a larger piece of plastic?

Cyberpunk would've won regardless of Phantom Liberty, which isn't even nominated here. NMS did not need a paid expansion to win for the same reasons Cyberpunk won. A lot of people also actually had a lot of fun with both of these games at launch, depending on their platform/expectations.

I know a lot of fans from the other nominees are upset, but let's try to understand one another. Most of us don't play the other games in the nominees. For example, I saw a lot of Fortnite fans upset that Cyberpunk got this award, but I'm willing to bet that most Fortnite players are not Cyberpunk players so they're not aware about how the game has evolved throughout the years. Heck, even a lot of Cyberpunk players are not aware about how much content it has gotten throughout the years because a lot of them are only trying it now. In the same breathe, a lot of Cyberpunk players like me do not know much about Fornite. My point is, we can all argue all day, but most of us don't know much about each others' games.
The fact of the matter though is that, the award is about - As Anthony Mackie put it "The best games are like living universes. Constantly expanding with new content and challenges. And what this award for Best Ongoing Game recognizes." and there's no denying that in 2023, heck even in 2022, but most specially in 2023, Cyberpunk 2077 got so much new content that expanded the game. Update 2.0 and 2.1 added so many features and improvements upon existing ones. Phantom Liberty is a large expansion and honestly better than most full games out there. So to say that it doesn't belong to this category I think is a product of being uninformed about the game, which is understandable if you've not been following any news about it.
it still isnt ongoing lmao, honestly with how much dlc comes out every year with video games, just make a BEST dlc award. It was the only game that isnt actually an ongoing game. But they wanted to give it something so they went with this
@@XPjonjon It is, because of what Anthony Mackie said. New content that that expands on the game, and CP77 got a lot of that this year. Even in 2022. So it technically is an on-going game. I think people are just confusing the category for Best MMO or Best Live Service game which is not necessarily so.
Do you think it's funny that Cyberpunk beat all Live Service? Because this award is for them not cyberpunk who created the mess in the first place.
@@greedyyawgoo5635 The category is not Best MMO or Best Live Service
@@beige_projection I don't think people are confused literally every reaction I saw was like Fortnite or final fantasy lol and some said great game amazing dlc but I would not say it. Best on going for fixing a broken game that's on them not us lol
*Best Ongoing Buggy Game*
How a client game to win ongoing award:
1. Release beta version at day one.
2. Fix bug and new dlc at next year, and then you got a ongoing award.
I love 2077, but I really don't understand why 2077 got a ongoing award
If it launched as it is now, it would've won GOTY, that's why.
@@Alex_Logan22 But my friend, this isn't the "how it should have been" award, but the ongoing award. They should create a new category of "redemption awards" for games like no man's sky or cp77 that managed to fix themselves overtime. But then again, that kind of award would be an incentive for many developers to put 0 efforts because they're going to fix their game at some point later in time and get an award for it. So cp77 should have gotten an honorary award instead of an unfitting award.
They were fixing bugs and making the expansion for 3 years, not "next year". They really put a lot of work into it, including COMPLETE recreating in-game systems. It's as if they made this game again from the beginning in terms of mechanisc. But sure, let's repeat they failed in 2020 and never notice how they improved, that's totally fair.
@@Mana7OriginComparing no mans sky to cyberpunk is not right for the no mans sky team whatsoever. One lied and gave the community 10 years of expansions for free, making the game better than it was supposed to be originally. The other lied and didnt fix relevant shit for 3 years to then come and fix some of the stuff and give u paid dlc and its not yet the game it was sold to u by their trailers and promises
@@Mana7Origin
The vast majority of games that had "issues" or "controversy" of some type do not get this level "ongoing" updates across years like NMS/Cyberpunk do. An award doesn't need to be named after a narrative formed around its winner, Games for Impact isn't called the Woke award.
Well deserved, cheers chums!!!👏👏
*Choom
Can you just imagine if Cyberpunk 2077 released like it is at the height of patch 2.1??? Greed always finds a way, such a shame.
They turned around this game like crazy... from absolutely broken to absolute unique masterpiece ❤
IM SO HAPPY
My favourite game.
Respect to cd projekt, they deserved it.
Well deserved ❤
It was the best "ongoing" scam for the last 3 years, you gotta give it to them
@@onlybb3286Picked up the game this month, finished the main story then bought Phantom Liberty and finished that too and enjoyed every bit of it.
@@onlybb3286 scam, kek. There sure is a lot of scam for a game with one of the best world designs, leve ldesigns, stories, quests. combat and quite a lot of hours of content. More than alan weak for sure.
They scammed millions of people and did the bare minimum by fixing their game and the industry awards them for it. Really sad how people are calling this "deserved" when there are games that launched good and then continued to release quality content for years.
Congrats To CD PROJEKT RED 👏💯 they deserve it after multiple patches and updates, but why does Anthony Mackie has more time to tell shitty jokes on stage while the actual game dev only had like 30 seconds of speech Before they get kicked off?
Will Smith: Game Awards goes to...
Also Will Smith: S H A T ÆP S H A T ÆP
Fortnite and final fantasy deserved it a lot more
How can your game be considered “ongoing” when all you did was try to fix your mistakes that was SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE GAME AT LAUNCH!
when Yandere sim releases in 20 years, it will also get a game award for best ongoing game, it doesn't matter that it took almost 40 years to get good, if it got great on the last month of it's life, it's the best!
Well not deserved. How can it be ongoing when it is not live service? What a garbage evaluation of what ongoing game should be. Cyberpunk 2077 should not be an option in the first place. I would respect it more if the winner came from the other four ONGOING games
So I guess ongoing game award just mean
"Your game suck but if you clutch you get award"
The fact that this game got an award is insulting
Released three years ago as a scam game and they only fixed it only recently. Also what's so "ongoing" about it? It's not even a live service game
The fact it got a sequel, new massive DLC, an overhaul for pretty much the netire game - that's what makes it ongoing. What's insulting is CP not getting best narrative.
@@radi534 you gotta be trolling if you think they deserved best narrative, Allen Wake 2 and BG3 shit on cyberpunk writing
@@chigbosin7362 that generic ass story shits on itself more than anything.
Loving your negativity. Stay on your antidepressants.
@@chigbosin7362 All three of those games have fantastic writing, and any of Alan Wake 2, Baldurs Gate or Phantom Liberty would have been a well deserved winner. Ongoing is a weird category for it to win, but No Mans Sky kind of set that precedent.
Which is total bullshit. A game receiving a single dlc and patches is not an "ongoing" game. Ongoing games are live service/mmos/ mmo lites like destiny etc
Why dont just make a Best Expansion Award? Phantom Liberty may be a good expansion, but that doesnt make Cyberpunk an ongoing game, neither them making fixes via patches and adding small features. Honestly, Fortnite or Genshin Impact should have won that award.
they didn't just add small features they made a significant overall to game systems. I do agree there should be a best expansion category because some expansions are better than other base games
Honestly fortnite has been decieving for three years with poor content. And that atempt of winning this one award with the og season is the laziest thing they could have been doing for it.
Honestly either genshin or cyberpunk would deserve that award as though genshin managed to add good content for three years, and that cd project managed to keep up the pace and saved their game for three years aswell.
2.0 is not a expansion, is just updates, like fortnite and genshin receive, and it made the game a masterpiece... and phantom liberty was also amazing, but its another part of the game...
@@lgsscout196Phantom Liberty is an actual expansion tho
Not only was Phantom Liberty a massive expansion, not just in gameplay, but with it's story, update 2.0 reworked almost every single gameplay system. It's an entirely new game now, not to mention the fact that we got ANOTHER free update this week adding in a ton of new content and reworks as well. They didn't just "finish" the game, they made almost an entirely new game.
I just don't understand how it made best ongoing.
There are so many other games that are actual on going games... But w/e.
Fr all they did was fix their game and the industry awarded them for it.
@@TheAdoringFan Not fix but also expand.
@@labret2 Perhaps it my own ignorance, but what have they expanded on except this one DLC they've made, The quality to life / game enhancement - AI, Ui and ect.
Not knocking the game mind, just asking.
100% well deserved. One of the best games of all time. They overhauled the entire game!!
started playing this game and what a pleasure it is
Aint no way Cyberpunk won over Fortnite 😱
lol. does fortnite have anything to win in at least one category?
