“Leaning out for love and lean that way forever” is a reference to the lyrics in Leonard Cohen’s “Suzanne.” She has said that he was an early influence, and it shows on many levels
Aurora is beyond incredible. She can send you off in a cloud of pixie dust. You end up in a wonderment of an enchanted forest. There is another Norwegian singer who grabs your soul with the resonance and vibrations of her voice who also has a massive following. Angelina Jordan. You truly need to check in on her. Don’t know what’s going on in Norway.
Great stuff Dale. Definitively the best “reaction “ video that I’ve seen. It was more like a review and I loved the information about Roman and Greek mythologies referenced in “Exist For Love”. Yes it was intentional according to her. On the launch of this exquisite video she talked about it during a live stream. She also performed it live whilst accompanying herself on piano. BTW “leaning out for love” I think references one of her all time song writing heroes who uses a similar line in one of his songs - Leonard Cohen. Regarding the rather mysterious meaning of the first two lines, I think that I’ve figured it out:- “They say there is a war between THE man and THE woman” I don’t think that this is a general reference. I think she is talking about a particular couple whom she knows very well. In fact I think she has strong feelings for THE man -“I’ve never felt like this before” - but she unable to let these feeling develop because he is already committed to that relationship - “ my heart knew that I couldn’t”...............then he takes her in and it all makes complete sense. Anyway that’s how I’m interpreting it. Thanks for the video.👍
Hi Graeme! Thank you for your insight! I'll have to search for that Leonard Cohen reference. He's another one whose rather enigmatic lyrics dig deep into his personal experience. While she may be referencing a particular couple with the first line--and I don't know her back story here, but I appreciate your pointing it out (something else to explore!)--I think it really can be understood generally because the use of "the," as you point out, which could mean someone specific, could serve double duty as "the institution of man/woman" as in the Venus/Mars model, taking the opportunity to throw more mythological symbolism into the mix. It's fun to identify these in the lyrics because she is using them poetically rather than academically. Her artistry is indeed rich! Thanks for the discussion!
Dayle Vander Sande Thanks Dale for your comments. I love your insight. AURORA said to her live stream audience that the ability of humans to be able to experience love is something that should be cherished. She felt that in this time of isolation, we could focus our respect for love. Yes, the song did come out of her first truly romantic personal experience of love in 2017, but she wants the world to value love more. That idea reminds me of the Beatles - All you need is love BTW this is the line from Leonard Cohen’s song, Suzanne, that Aurora is referencing - “They are leaning out for love and they will lean that way forever”.

Hi selenagomezfan208! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. If you mean what voice type, she is a soprano. If you mean style, I would say she crosses over various categories from folk, pop, and world. Nice reaction, probably, since I had to turn off this one too. You are reacting to another 'not as intended' song by Aurora. Not your fault this time. This version was the one at wrong speed that was first released and corrected some day later. If you listen to the current official video I'm sure you'll hear that there's a difference in speed and that Aurora's voice sounds like she's on helium. I guess someone mixed up 48 and 44 kHz sampling rates.

@@DayleSong Thanks Dayle, I already watched both and enjoyed your reaction (I probably watch too many Aurora reactions, but I guess there are worse things to be addicted to). The only thing I didn't like was the missing parts of my favorite from that concert: Through the Eyes Of a Child. In my opinion it's both her most emotional song and best performance of it. If you plan to react to her latest song Your Blood I strongly recommend the live performance from Beijing (she has a red dress with a red dragon thing on her shoulders that she got as a gift from a fan right before the concert). There are some drop outs of the sound in the early videos, but someone posted a comment that there is s better one out now that I haven't checked out yet.

Yes, Aurora enjoys studying ancient religions and indigenous cultures. . She is unhappy that originally the gods were close at hand as in the sea, on the land , in the mountains and now modern man has moved god far away and unreachable up into the clouds. That is a concept that I never perceived. Aurora has these perceptions that are simple yet uncommon.

Man, in the beginning I was a bit annoyed. I felt like you didn't respect her enough by talking too much without pausing. While talking, one can't follow the lyrircs, much less concentrate on it, and she deserves all the respect in the world. At least to me. She means the world to me. The empty chairs are scallop shaped. She wanted an empty room because she said this; her first love song, is for her fans, not just a particular audience performance. She was inspired by the 1920s and 30s.

I guarantee you that you over analyzed Aurora. She is into metaphor on a very human level, not historical. The heart in her songs is what she wants to show, not historical references. I have studied her work and watched everything she says. She is a genius and highly gifted. She is open about the fact this is about her relationship with another woman. She is an honest lovely person.
Hi no bodi! Thanks for watching and for your feedback. I appreciate your thought about overanalyzing. There certainly can be a point at which analysis goes too far. However, one of my overall purposes with this channel is to demonstrate how a singer can approach a song, either when preparing to sing one or simply in how to appreciate one. Aurora is definitely aware of the mythology she employs, but a young singer may not know the references. And as I find them to be rich here, I thought it important as well as colorful to share. Certainly, a song is a lot more than its references, and the success of Exist for Love surely lies in how Aurora touches the human heart with the song. Yet through analysis, one can discover how she builds a scaffold of symbolic references (classically used in poetry and song) in order to enrich and couch her heartfelt message, which makes the journey a more beautiful experience. The lyrics are highly structured if not academically so. Thank you for confirming that she is in a relationship with another woman. I didn't know that, but intuitively I had a strong sense that it might be one of the messages alluded to in the song, though it is not overt. In any case, Exist for Love is a lovely paean bejeweled with mythology like a sweet, intimate Valentine. I look forward to learning more about Aurora and her work here. I hope you stay tuned.

Hi bare meg -- thanks for watching and commenting. The lyrics are the basis of any song, informing the composition and the performance. I found her vocals very effective in setting the tone of the song, but she didn't vary them very much here, which seems to be on purpose to keep a consistent overall tone. I found her words to be super poetic, and the mythology bears pointing out. After all, it's the lyrics from which the music flows as well as does any good performance. So, as a singer interpreting a song, one must begin with the words like a composer does. A song is storytelling!
@@DayleSong indeed and Aurora is more of a story teller than most. She inhabits the characters in her songs. When she writes but also when she performs.
@@johnlovenhill1 Hers is an innate talent, but it can also be encouraged by example. I always point to that kind of genius in my coaching and look to it for my own performing. It is about the characters and the inner truth. That's what makes her such a delight!

Yes! She is Venus! I am so glad you think so too. Great reaction.
Thank you, Lene Lene! I truly appreciate your feedback. It occurred to me later how ironic it is that she uses her arms so actively because one might think of the armless Venus de Milo!
You got it! I subscribed. I'm pretty picky, too! LoL I really enjoyed your reaction. I love how you try to read into the details of the story.. I'm looking forward to more of your Aurora reactions.
Thank you so much, Cheryl! I have another Aurora song in the works. I look forward to having discussions with you about her songs!
The orb at 3:57 was loving the song too lolol
Hi Dusskull! That's quite funny! Peter and I JUST launched our reaction to Aurora's Nidarosdomen concert -- Part One yesterday on Peter's channel (@Doctor.Disney) and Part Two this morning on mine. Please check them out and let us know what you think! We were blown away by her performance and the entire ethos of that concert!

Did you know Aurora is learning to play the harp
Hi flake bust! Thanks for watching! I love that tidbit. I just recently bought myself a small harp and am learning to play it, myself!

“Leaning out for love and lean that way forever” is a reference to the lyrics in Leonard Cohen’s “Suzanne.” She has said that he was an early influence, and it shows on many levels
Her first line is from Leonard Cohen's song "There is a War".
I love how you went into depth about what the song could be about just pure gold💛
Thank you, Ciara! That means a lot to me. Please stay tuned for more Aurora coming up!

Thanks! Another Aurora coming up next week!
I get a super 1920s/1930s vibe from this music video. Her fast vibrato and the fan dancers and the shell echoing the art deco look of the era.
So much fun, indeed! Who else is so original?
damn im glad you caught that reference. I thought I was the only one
Thanks, Bill! I will check her out. Someone else also suggested her recently, too. I look forward to hearing another great singer I didn't know!
WE'RE HERE TO LOVE WE ARE LOVE ADORABLE AND UNIQUE NON THE LEAST WISE

Hi Tom! Greetings from New York! Thanks for saying hi! I believe my name stems from Norway perhaps a long time ago, but I haven't proven that yet. Thanks for watching. We love your Aurora!
Her live performances are very well prefered over Studios, most of the Time, because of her stage presence which you dont see in studio versions but which makes experience her much stronger.

That's very possible! Still, her intention comes through.
Interesting analysis at boil down this music video in the artistic aspect, inspiration source and vocal part. I enjoy the entire video indeed.

But you did look up the lyrics and were able to reflect on the depths of it and I learned something new. I always wondered about those white horses! So thank you. I liked it a lot after all. Great reaction :) But please do give her the respect she deserves. Don't talk over her :)

I hope you stay tuned.
... This song is for Magnus... 😉😊
I think you are sjay man to hear love..you ruing musikk to taking when shr singing..

Over-interpreted.
First time i have seen a vocal coach react to a video/lyrics instead of the voice/performence.
