When you hang an axe I’m pretty sure that you are supposed to beat it on a little and pick it up and beat it on by the bottom of the handle. It will help it go down on the handle better.

If your going to use the little steel hammer to drive that wedge, you should cover the end of the wedge with a small block of hardwood to transfer the impact force along the entire wedge.. final product looks beautiful ...
SID Minotaur Thor had a hammer in marvel at first before he ever had an axe. His hammer bore the same as the mythology hammer: mjölnir . But they added some other weapons for him later on to contribute to some plot stuff.
It's almost like you didn't want us to see the manufacturer's name on the side of the ax. I've changed out lots of handles in my time (since the 1960's) and never found glue necessary. It's an interesting touch, though, I admit. My father was a blacksmith, and he made a tool shaped like the handle opening at the top of the ax head for driving out the old wood. I still have and use it. Also, your handle is a work of art. Beautifully done!! I'm so glad to see the old axes cared for, like my great-grandfathers two Kelly "Registered" faller's axes, which I still use. Great work, young man.
You are a work of art and god you restored an axe that many people would just leave it to the trash you are giving the axe more history GOD BLESS YOU!!!!!!!!
Beautiful work. It will be interesting to see if that spalted handle holds up to some hard use especially being so close the heartwood. Keep up the good work!
Verry good. I know the problem. People throw nowadays forged things away because they're rusty and old. Allthow this axe was just drop forged by machines it isn't right! Forged things can live for centuries! And, with a little work, here it comes back again. To a next live. I'm a hobby blacksmith and thank you verry much for honoring our work!!!!! It's not easy to forge a double bladed by the way!

drop the audio down a couple of notches on the work, this would be nice to watch and chill out to seeing the process, but the powertool noise is a bit over the top. Would be much better if the background music was less drowned out by the tools and the banging

Hey I don't want to be an ass but give the man some credit like think about how many hours it took this man and if you think you can do this better step right up and be my guest and he probably made it the way HE wanted to so you can't judge him
Nice work. That is a beautiful axe head. I have a little (28") double bit Crusier Axe. I carry it all the time in the woods. I never sharpen both sides to razor edge. Two reasons - a razor edge sticks in wood. This is a chopping tool, not a cutting tool. I sharpen using a file - always file toward the handle. So, one side sharper than the other - but not too much taper. The other side is pretty blunt - for chopping an occasional root or some other obstacle near the ground. If you hit a rock with a very sharp edge, you destroy the edge and possibly more - you can break a chunk out of the head. However, as an 'ornament', that axe is a thing of beauty. I wish it were mine. I'll have to look for a head like that - a work of art. Nice work on the handle too.
While this ran, I drove over to Lowe's and bought a brand new one for about $30. Saved something like $2,200 in shop equipment... but missed out on a good way to spend a couple of days alone! :-)

Great job; they only step that I do different is that I oil, boiled linseed oil, seven times before I handle the tool or hang an axe. Thank you for sharing.
It’s more of an aesthetic restoration to my eye. I’d would have chosen a stronger harder wood for handle instead of a splatted cherry. Sanding the axe head without cooling it is also suspect. And finally I’d have chosen to polish off less of the axe surface.
i noticed that as well. great restoration but seemed to shortcut at the end. there is also a good reason that there is a tight fit there, and it is not just aesthetics.
Beautiful axe, but when you hang an axe head you set it on the handle, then hammer from the bottom of the handle.while holding the axe with the head down. Also, leave a little more handle above the eye of the axe and only cut the kerf for the wedge 2/3's of the way down. It gives less chance of splitting. Overall though, good looking axe
