HEYA FRIENDS!!!! So excited to share this project with you. Thanks for hanging out with me & always leaving the most interesting/kindest/ helpful/ informative comments. I love hearing about your lives & projects so much. I have been bad at replying to comments recently but please know I APPRECIATE YOU A LOT!!!! Take care & keep me posted on your WIPS!! Lots of love, Carly
I currently work on an autumny long sleeved cottage core dress out of a light beige cotton fabric. Its gonna turn out so pretty. 😍 Its a slow process though because I have two small kids 😅
Hi Carly! Another unique sewing tool which you may find usefull is a Bodkin needle. It is a needle which has a larger eye and a very dull point or a small ball instead of a point. It was commonly used to thread elastic, ribbon and laces through holes of shoes, eyelets, trouser, corsets, etc. I find it really useful for threading elastic in my projects. Which is a plus since I don't have to wrestle with a safety pin. Also you can find some really pretty antique ones since they used to be a daily tool for many people who struggled with fine motor skills, and disabilities such as arthirtis! Additionally, button hooks are a thing! They act like shoe horns but for buttons, effectivly a stick with a hook at the end which you put through the button hole, hook the button, and then pull the button back through with a crochet motion. A very helpful tool for many people which has sadly been forgotten due to the wide adotion of elastic and zippers instead of buttons. Have fun expanding your sewing arsenal & knowledge! /A historical sewist enthusiast from Sweden!
Cannot tell you how much I love the stuff you make! Love that you emphasize making clothes that are both functional and fun, and watching you make stuff with so much joy is so inspiring!
My favorite part of the video were probably the last part when you showed the results but also when you wanted to add a lot of pockets. Love the patches you put on it!!
Ah yes. It makes sense that your a rock climber!! That is the underlying vibe you have that I couldn’t quite place. It suits your personality!! And the pants turned out SOOOO GOOD!!!!
The reinforced rectangle that your waist drawstrings come out of is actually a bound buttonhole! So now you know how to do that if another pattern ever calls for it. 😊
Wow, these pants are so cool! I'm not a rock climber but I'd absolutely love to have a pair just like that 😊 Great job Carly, your creativity and perseverance is really inspiring! ❤
Thank you so much!!! Heheh I'll definitely climb in them but they're just comfy pants to wear on any occasion! I hope you go well if you ever make a pair for yourself! Thanks for watching mate
Only recently found your channel and love it here! Watching your vids is making me want to spend my whole weekend working on a new sewing project (cloning an old 80's cowboy-esque shirt I stole from my mum's closet but with a patchwork of quilting cotton rather than the yellow silk of the original). Totally agree about doing projects that make you happy; I'm knitting a pair of socks for the first time and when my aunt guided me through wool shopping she insisted that in order to be properly motivated to get through the hard parts it has to be a pattern and yarn that I'm really excited for, so I feel this is quite applicable to most creative endeavours! Thanks for sharing! :)
Thank you for sharing your gusset experiment. I thought they would be so tricky to figure out as a beginner sewist but your method makes so much sense. Now I’m excited to make extra comfy and functional pants 😁
you need those foam play mat tiles. u can use that perforation wheel on it so it gives you more stability unlike the carpet. also because they are foam you can puncture it with more ease unlike a hard surface. They are also connectable so u can make them however big for each project! Just thinking out loud haha
These are soooo cool! I've been wary of starting the Azuki work pants by Waffle Patterns on Etsy (similar kind of movement-necessary pants), but you have inspired me! Currently, I'm finishing up some handdrawn invitations to a party I'm throwing and going to continue on making my partner a quilt!
These are so cute and fun! And your tea towel collection is amazing. My niece is turning 1 in a couple of weeks so I’m working on making her a small quilted sleeping bag!
I truly did not expect you to say you are a rock climber. It’s so cool with sewing how we can create great things that wet love to use for our other hobbies. The pants look great and cool while you were climbing. I’m making a quilted Daphne jacket from Vivian shao Chen with a piece of wool and a plaid tablecloth I got from the thrift store.
The pants turned out so nice!!! I originally voted for plain/same fabric on insta, but I’m SO GLAD you went with the tea towels omg it looks so cool and fun!!!! And adding a gusset is so smart, I feel like I need to add it to all my pants now hahaha. Annnd I just started sewing the Carolyn pajamas from ClosetCore using a super adorable seersucker fabric with bees on🥹🥹 Lovely video as always
thank you so much!!!!! i appreciate your vote!!! I had to get crazy with it so i could keep having fun hahaha even if it looked stupid. Do it!!! Gussets are suprisingly approachable! Oooooh that sounds so cute - I hope they turn out great!
The pants are amazing- you're very talented! I greatly admire your fun approach to all your projects. Funnily enough, I live in the Illawarra and drove past all the cattle today 🐄🐄
So fun Carly! I'm based on the Sunny Coast and recently found your channel as I fall in love with sewing. I've been a boulderer for a few years now (though currently recovering from a pulley injury :') ) and I'm so delighted that you're making a climbing pants video~ Exactly what I needed to get me through Monday, bless your cotton socks!
i love these!! I was a little skeptical of the tea towels but it looked so fun to sew and they look so wonderful and cool on the pants! made me think about making some similar pants
I put off making those kinds of pockets for the longest time. I thought they'd be hard. They're actually rather easy. I've never done a pocket cover thing though. Everything I know about sewing I've learnt from UA-cam. I'm currently altering a dress I made last year but only wore once because I didn't like how the bodice part fit me. So I'm making a totally different bodice part.
These turned out so great! I was not sure about the tea towel idea at first because I was worried they’d be a bit much (and I loved that red and cream stripe fabric and didn’t want to cover too much of it up) but the result is stunning, and so fun! Much more personal than anything neutral could have been! And that draw string solution is so clever! I’m currently very slowly working on remaking an old handbag/backpack I had that I loved. It was partially real leather and partially faux leather, the latter of which has been falling apart after years of use. I don’t have any experience in leather work, so I’m only switching out all the faux leather parts for recycled denim I’ve collected and keeping all the real leather bits as accent pieces. In the end, it won’t be as neutral as my old all brown backpack was, but jeans blue and brown is a colour combo I find very interesting too, so I can’t wait to finish it soon.
It's such a joy to watch your videos Carly. These pants were so cool! I wonder if these are the kind of gardening pants I need to sew 🤔 most overalls don't allow quite the right range of motion. Loved the tea towel collection, and your Little Miss shirt is so cute - is it Little Miss Giggles?
Your pants look so cute and functional! I really enjoy your videos and all the whimsy and I appreciate your educational moments! :) Atm I'm sewing my dream autumn jacket out of a thrifted bedspread, combining patterns and self drafting. I was inspired by your lantern sleeves on the patchwork hoodie video🤩
It’s late in aus now but I’ve not been so early to a vid so I gotta comment. Love these pants! So cool to see your pattern making process, it’s so helpful! My projects are a party dress toile for a monstera print dress I’m planning, which is an old bedsheet I thrifted 🎉 and I’m knitting some socks. My next project is froggy socks which I’m so pumped for!!!!
hahahah heyyyyy!!!!! it was a late post!! thanks for watching. That sounds DELIGHTFUL. I hope your dress & socks go well. I tried knitting socks once and I got about 1/4 way through the first sock before I was a bit tired hahahhaha!! The stitches are so small!
I'm sitting and watching this video while I cut up all my fabric remnants into 7x7cm squares for a patchwork fabrication. I'm thinking of turning it into the Syd Tie Fron Dress but we will see!!
Super cool! I really like the idea of this, though I’ve been jonesing for a pair of overalls. But the gusset is genius - I might, ahem, steal some of these ideas for a pair of overalls for DIY project-ing. When you need to carry everything plus half your tools. I think I’d go for a tapered pant leg though, the straight leg is less my vibe. Thanks for the sweet video and the inspiration!
