I've always had to wait until I was sick to watch Bob Barker on the show. However, I was only in elementary school when he was the host. By the time I started middle school, it was Drew Carey's turn to take the stage. Oh, those were indeed the days.
@robert leonard that was when tv was good lol.. tv wasn't as much time consuming because you didn't have all kinds of channels and shows to binge watch for no reason at all
Bob telling Drew to not act like or be like him was the best piece of sage advice ever given. But luckily, he does act like Barker, when it comes to the spay-neuter plug at the end of each show, so that's rewarding. The day they both met, Drew told him that he was going to keep using that plug as long as he was the host and Bob never had to ask him! They've been firm friends ever since, and I find that rewarding too. God bless them both.
I really love Price is Right behind the scenes videos! I myself was a contestant of this show and played a game on stage. My mind shut down when I was on stage and it didn't work properly because I was in state of SHOCK that's why I sought help from the audience. It's really one of the best experiences I ever had!!!
Lord I, like many others watched when home from school. Which was a lot of the time. Health issues. Seeing Bob Barker and those games were best part of my day!
Couldn't have found a better person to carryon than Drew. Who could it have possibly been Different yes - but the same engagement with the people and empathy. You can tell he's committed and having fun. Have to have that base understanding of people and talent.
Drew is an amazing talent in his own right. A great start in stand-up... then on to his own show... and now TPIR. The Amazing Bob Barker will be 100 in December! Rock On, Bob!
I haven't been since Drew took over, but went several times when Bob hosted and it was always a great time - even waiting on the sidewalk with people at 3 a.m.
The positives for Drew was that the job pays well, there’s job security because TPIR is a classic, and he doesn’t have to travel like he did as a stand up comedian.
@@claygilchrist632 Long forgotten comment, but that’s what I was stating. Lol He’s a smart man to take on that position because it would be a much more chill job and pays much higher I’m sure. Also don’t forget he also did The Drew Carey Show and Whose Line Is It Anyway which were moderately successful.
It surprises me that so many contestants drastically under bid on just about everything. The trip from LA to Palm Springs in a limo plus 3 nights in the Hard Rock Cafe Hotel. The bidding usually starts around $650 when the actual price is $2,750. If you plan on going on the show look up the prices of things like Hyundai, Honda, smart TV's, home computers, laptops, etc.
@@aleksandrrozentsvit2164 I can answer a few of those question. 1) If the player loses, the prizes go back to the warehouse. 3) The prices on the games are able to be taken off, and they are able to digitally print out prices and stick them on the games. Hope these answered a few of them.
That's awesome! Would love to see a full length doc on how this show is made. If you win a car, do you have to take it? Can you sell it back to the dealership for cash?
You can refuse any or all prizes won but you don’t get a cash equivalent. If you accept, you also accept tax/title/license responsibility in the case of a car. But you literally get a BRAND NEW CAR hand delivered to your house from California.
Basically to get on the show, you have to act like a maniac, pass through rounds of interviews and wait in line for hours. Also, don't forget the taxes you'll have to pay for your prizes if you do win.
@@aleksandrrozentsvit2164 I remember reading somewhere once that they do the "from LA" thing just to have the price of the trip, but if you win you can actually fly from wherever you live. (Not counting the sometimes very local trips they have, like a trip to Santa Monica, which are provided via a car service)
@@aleksandrrozentsvit2164 Apparently South African Airway's doesn't depart from LAX because I notice that everytime that show has a trip to go there (South Africa), the contestant has to leave from DC via Dulle's Airport in VA. You do know that there has never ever been a motor home in the Showcase Showdown. The only prize they have given away in the Showcase Showdown is an Audi.
This is where Don Fransico in his Sabado Gigante run beats this show. He would have anyone on the games regarless of how exciting or melow they were. In fact, some of the most memorable contestants of all times where those that had just won a big prize like a 'brand new car', thousands of dollars, but would show no emotion, be too shy or would emotionally freeze and be speechless. I grew up watching the Price is Right but eventually, the cookie cutter contestants became too repetitive. I do miss Bob Barker hosting it though.
I agree. Won't get on TPIR because like what said. Also, the cars they give away is very repetitive and they prefer base model cars but sometimes midrange or top.
So basically, the audience knows ahead of time who is picked to come on down. On TV they act like they’re surprised, but they already know that they’re gonna be picked. And it’s not authentic because producer picks those who are overly animated or have energy. It should be based on random who is in line
I once went to a TPIR taping (Bob Barker was the host). I wasn't chosen as a contestant, along with who I went with. I remember every contestant who made it on stage losing. I brought bad luck. :/

No not really. I was in the audience about 10 years ago. In the beginning of the show. You cant hear the announcer when he's calling the 1st 4 contestants because of the crowd noise. So they use cue cards for that
Funny how they didn't mention that you have to pay taxes on the prizes before you actually get them. If you don't pay the taxes, then the items are held in the storage for xxx # of days and then sold off. This really sucks for those contestants who prizes total over $100k. Good luck paying those taxes. 😳
