This was an absolutely brilliant explanation of what to think about when considering variable speed equipment. I tried quizzing our builders HVAC contractor about these same kinds of things and he had no answers of any substance. So I decided to go with single stage equipment since the builder only used that contractor. I feel if we had done variable speed equipment we would have been an experiment for them and any problems would be hard for them to troubleshoot. Thanks for arming me to negotiate on the next home!
This is the problem I am going to run in to when building as well. Though I am not going to hire out the local people. If I have to pay more to bring in some company from a much larger city I will do so. I do not want some half baked HVAC system installed. I want variable speed and better equipment and willing to pay a bit more for it. Varible speed allows you to run your system all the time at much much lower energy and thus keeps the air flowing and filtering all the time.
I enjoyed this video. A lot of the premium brand distributors require training and volume numbers before allowing contractors to sell variable speed systems. This is smart. Protects the brand and the contractors. I know contractors who will not install variable speed systems at all and in thinking about it, it is for the best. I liked your explanation of selling mostly single stage as a smaller business and only getting into the premium stuff after you grow and have the resources to do so. As a smaller new business, I have found myself turning down certain jobs and too much variety because the resources are not there. It's hard to do residential, high performance, commercial, refrigeration and new construction. They are all similar, but very different in practical application. It is probably best for smaller companies to focus on the basics and be very specific in their market until they have the money and team to grow. Hopefully, you could do some content for contractors trying to grow their businesses. I really like your simple explanations for customers and your website is really straight forward.
That is great, yet it does suck and sucks bad for the people who want better systems. If single stage equiment is the only thing a place sells and someone wants higher end stuff you got to find the right person who could charge you double or triple of what it really should cost because no one else can build those systems. I am not willing to accept a crappy single stage system and will move on so fast from a contractor who can not deal. The same applies for any company I deal with. If I pick up the phone and call you and ask for a quote on your in stock product and you can not find a sales associate or give me a price over the phone, I move on even if you are the "best company". For example I called about a glass door front and the company put me hold and then sent me to a voicemail. I called the next person on the list, got a quote and made the order. The other company called me back several times while I was away from the phone and answered to them "trying" to help me. Only to tell them I already bought and paid for said door and its being delivered, said sales guy said that you could have gotten it cheaper. I told him had you had someone to answer the phone when I called you would have gotten the sale. I am so sick of people thinking they are the only source. I know I am going to get robbed on a varible speed HVAC system yet I will call around and find the prices of the system vs the labor and hire the company that can do the job. Because if they can not abide by the contract they can speak to my lawyer and the bond agent. I am not going to play with anyone. The contract will be fulfilled to the letter or they will pay.
At 71 I am curious about the variable speed systems. I worked in A/C technician for years then went into automation. Analog to digital programming. Installed and programmed tons of variable speed drives and the logic centers behind them. So I think I know the logic behind it. I think I will buy a variable speed Goodman and install in my home. Thanks
Your videos have been very helpful in helping us make a decision on a new AC/heat unit. We have decided on the Carrier model Performance 17 2 stage AC, 24TPA7. We live in Houston and contacted your Houston phone number. Since you do not have a storefront in Houston, how do you select your installers? Is there anyway we can get references on who you chose to install?
I'm so happy I was able to help you make that decision, you've decided on a very impressive unit! As far as the install would go with us, we use all of our own installers, who have raving reviews and we take a lot of pride in the work they do and the knowledge that they have! If you wanted a good reference of the work we do pertaining to Houston, you can Google our "ATLAS AC Arlington" google page, and on our reviews there press the "newest" bubble and you will see our latest review from a gentleman we did in Houston just last week. Hope this helps, please do not hesitate to reach out with any other questions you may have!
I run a very small company in CA (one man shop+ helpers for installs) and the bulk of my installs are Bosch inverter (variable speed) systems and I also repaired Infiniti system not being a carrier dealer, so I donno. You just need to know what you're doing
Do variable speed air handlers paired with a single stage condenser make sense? I was told the variable speed air handler will deal with high humidity better, I guess because of lower longer fan speed?
Why tf would you tear out a system you don't even have equipment for? I would never tear out all 3 systems at once, but one at a time so they're not without HVAC.

look greenspeeed is not rocket science, BUT it is much more than a single stage that anyone DIY can install watching tube.

Yes for the exact reason you stated
so ture- never have an inexperienced installer try to install full inverter variable speed COMMUNICATING unit !
Why tf would you tear out a system you don't even have equipment for? I would never tear out all 3 systems at once, but one at a time so they're not without HVAC.
My first thought exactly! Was there one crew for the removal, and another for the installation?
@@jwhite4or was this simply an imaginary scenario to illustrate the presenter's point.
@@AbcDino843 Not impossible. But I'd hope that in otherwise "real life" stories, there would be disclaimers ahead of any hypothetical scenarios.
@@jwhite4 you are hoping for too much my friend, this is the Internet :).
