Wish you had shown a cam by itself and given its number. There is much confusion as to which type Kenmore cam goes with which machine, since the cam sets have no number/name. It seems Kenmore made several styles of cams and some are the same number but arent interchangeable. Thank you for this video. I did learn somrthing from it.
So I'm confused. Are the green camps for the green stitches above on the chart? And the orange cams are for the orange stitches and then the blue stitches like the duck in the tree? Do they come loaded on the machine then?
The colour of the cams does not match the colour on the chart? The orange cams which I have are not stretch which are also orange on the diagram and white stitches on the front of the machine. Th is a blue are stretch stitches which are green cams and orange switches on the front of the machine. The stitches shown on the front of the machine are built in.
My 158.140 has a cam door on top of the machine. It doe not have the knows to select a stitch. It has levers for LCR needle position, lever for stitch length which doubles as reverse and a roller wheel for +/-
Help! I have a Kenmore 158.140. I can't find the cams. I purchased some cams for Kenmore but they don't fit. They are too big. Would you happen to know or happen to have one or some that you can display. I would like to know what they look like so that I can purchase the correct ones.. Thanks in advance.
My 1914 seems to have an issue with the zigzag bar but nothing appears to be wrong with it. If I close the face cover of my machine, the spring that holds the cover closed interferes with the zigzag bar (the black bar inside the machine that pushes and pulls the needle from side to side). I can sew a straight stitch with the cover closed, but if I want to use pattern cams or do any sort of zig-zag stitches, I have to leave the door open. Any insight on that issue?
Sounds like the spring has become bent or is not in place. I would remove it for now, and then figure out how it should be placed to avoid interefering with the zigzag.
Absolutely. The first setting on the left does zig zag and straight. In fact, zig zag set to 0 on most stitches on this machine will give you straight.
It looks like the machine you have is the earlier version of the 158. Great machine apparently made by White sewing machine company. The later 158 were made in Japan by another great company.
It is a fine machine indeed. It is like driving a very expensive car. It is running head to head with my Singer 411G, but they each do certain things slightly different than each other, so I am keeping both.
Would you happen to be selling this sewing machine. I used to have one many years ago and it gave up the ghost about 10 years ago. I would love to own another one again.
James Rogers it wasn’t dropped. After many, many years of use it had a catastrophic failure. It was almost like a run away Diesel engine. I was sewing one day and all of a sudden it started going out of control. By the time I was able to get it unplugged, the whole thing had seized and wouldn’t turn anymore. I would dearly love to have another one.
Sorry, I do not have one in Spanish. The only way to achieve this would be to work through and translate it all or get someone who is bilingual to assist.
Just got a 1941 for 20.00 with EVERYTHING'S so excited
Great informational videos for this model. I've learned a lot about this old machine that has been sitting idle for many years.
Very helpful! I'm about to try the cams for the first time and now I know a bit about what to expect. Thank you!

Do you really mean the 158.140 as in this video? ua-cam.com/video/MqcP7vv-EkI/v-deo.html
The cams are in a cam stack and are not the pop in type.

Are there two sizes of cams? I bought a 158.1500 and the spot for the cams looks smaller

Thank you. This is incredibly helpful, I have been struggling to find anything on this machine.
Do you like this Kenmore better then a Singer? I’m looking to add to my collection. :)

I am surprised that it could not be fixed. They are super sturdy. Do you still have it? Unless it was dropped, it should be fixable.

@@GoMetricToday I would wager it is fixable. A runaway machine will often jam with thread. If you have it, we could try and look at it.
James Rogers sadly I don’t have the machine anymore. I ended up scrapping it, but I did however sell all my discs for a pretty penny.
Hola, necesito un manual en Español. Gracias

Would be easier for us to sew your sewing if you sew with dark thread on white material……just saying
Tengo una ken more antigua no se usar por favo
Hola yo no sé inglés
Gee. ….have your material on the other side….not going through the centre.
The instruction manual states that as well.
