    Thank you, Randy! Great video. I wanted to see inside. A very useful tip on that side screw below the handwheel, to open go right. This is one cute machine. I picked one up and very happy to have it. Feels like quality from the start. Not one I will ever part with.

    I have one I inherited from my dear uncle who passed away in the early 90s. He was quite the renaissance man. I just took it out of the closet and will see what shape it’s in. Will have it repaired if needed. These old machines are worth keeping.

    Sir, I live in the U.K. and have just bought one of these machine from a charity (thrift) shop. I have yet to change the 110v plug for a plug that will fit in a transformer to convert it 240v; however, I cannot wait to try this little machine. I would also like to thank you for putting up videos on how to service these wee machines.

      There’s a few machines I wonder about that dropped off the market. Now there’s so many buyouts and consolidations happening that it hard to keep track of who owns who. I encourage folks to buy an “old reliable “ because if there’s one thing we’ve learned in the last year, the future is getting hard to predict. LOL

    Fantastic machines, indeed. Here in Japan, these are called the Jaguar "Mate" series. There are Mate Marks I, II, and III. (There's a free-arm version of the Mark III called the F-3.) There is also a rare version with a built-in handle on the top of the machine. Those are the Mate P-1 and W-1. The P-1 is pink and the W-1, white. Unlike in the States, there is no hype nor following here and they can be regularly had for very little money. I have a dozen or so, and I've never paid more than US$15.00. (Last week I bought a perfect Orange/White Mark II with flower case and all accessories for $0.70.)

    I have this exact sewing machine. It was working great but the presser foot lever slipped off the track somehow and won’t clip up or down. I opened the side and figured out how it should be in there but it won’t stay in place. I’m wondering how to fix this?

    • @randyyoursewingmachineman9954
      @randyyoursewingmachineman9954  Рік тому +1

      Take all the pressure off the presser bar by turning the knob on top counterclockwise several turns.
      Guide the lever bolt carefully through the hole in the lifter lever and get it started without cross threading it.
      Once it’s started in its threaded bolt hole, continue to tighten it until it’s snug.
      Then you can reapply the pressure and return to normal operation. 😎👍🏼

      @@randyyoursewingmachineman9954 Thanks so much for the video! I recently picked up this machine at a thrift store (I had no idea this existed and thought it was clever when I looked it over!) and it worked mainly, but I had to get the feed dog lever unstuck, the clutch release unstuck, and lubed and oiled everything, including repacking the grease on the gear box. The only issue now is belt and/or belt tension - it stiches (quite beautifully), but when I apply power on the foot pedal, it doesn't move the handwheel and needle right away. If I touch the handwheel lightly, the machine will "catch" the belt and begin sewing. I am looking to order replacement belts so I'll have them as spares in case that adjusting the tension doesn't solve this problem. But - it is difficult to figure out what belt to use as a replacement. On SearsPartsDirect website, there is a motor parts schematic diagram and the belt part is #50015, for both the upper and lower belts (so they are the same dimensions). SewingPartsOnline gives a usable part replacement for #50015 as #33379, which is described as 12" circumference, 0.19" wide, and 80 teeth. It is a double lug belt (lugs on the inside and outside surface of the belt). Does that belt actually fit? Some of the comments on that belt, which is listed to fit a bunch of different machines, suggest that the belt is not a great fit for "superseded" part numbers. I haven't been able to find anywhere online where I can be confident that it is the correct part because the Sears parts diagram does not list the dimensions at all, only the part number, which no longer exists. Central Michigan Sewing Supplies website also lists a replacement belt for part #50015, #33379, and #45814, (fitting dozens of machines). They state: 12" in circumference (or about 11 5/8" in a straight line), width is standard 5.7 mm and "much softer than a standard lug belt". The belt is single lug (one side only), AND it says in the description there that it "Will not work for 158.1030 or 158.1040 machines". Can you shed some light on proper replacement part number and dimensions? Thank you again for your great videos and I hope any replies will help lots of people! I do really like this machine - it's zippy, powerful and solid. Lovely design!
