There are some absolute hard rock burners on Epic Narratives, but when it comes to mid-tempo balladic songs, these two are s-tier in all of Band-Maid -- hell, all of rock.
Kanami considered using The One as the final song for the 10th Anniversary concert at Yokohama. They instead opted for Endless Story. Look for it as a closer at future concerts ! ❤️
Don't feel bad about saying "the same thing" when it comes to Band-Maid. Because us Maidiacs know the saying "My favorite Band-Maid song is the last one I heard" is a thing. It feels like to me that Kanami felt more comfortable really going all out this album. And I think that why she felt that way is she was trusting Miku to really bring it. Like "Alright, you've graduated the school of Mincho. Time for us to get nutty." Love this album so much.
When I listen to this album I realise that "Unleashed" (the song) was a forewarning more than a statement. All the shackles have been shattered individually and combined.
"Letters to you" inhabits a great place between sweet and rock. Saiki's percussive voice while carrying the melody with her vibrato is amazing. (I need a new adjective to describe this band but haven't found it yet.)

The One- A fantastic piece of REAL music by Kanami. It's the direction I hope they continue to explore- slightly prog and jazzy but still rock. Beautiful vocals with really tasteful guitar outro- love to see it live.
Judging from the cover art, even BAND-MAID knows the earth is round. If I was turning on someone I was interested in to BAND-MAID for the 1st time, The One would be my choice.

LETTERS TO YOU "When we all are working hard every day, there are times when we feel hard, tired, and depressed. At such times, I wanted to create a song that would be soothing to your heart. I wrote this song in the hope that I could write a song that would be soothing to you at such times, and that you could lean on. I wonder if Sai-chan did understand my feelings when she listened to the song? The lyrics made me think so and so touching ♡ Love. I dared to use only one picking harmonic in the guitar solo. I like that kind of thing 🫶. (It's a fine taste, isn't it?)" Kanami's grandmother was an important person in her life. All of the Maid's felt deeply for Kanami's loss. At one time they considered the song as the final song for the 10th Anniversary Tour finale concert, but selected "Endless Story" instead . The song always brings tears to my eyes because of Miku's lyrics and Saiki's emotionally powerful voice singing "I'll never forget you" and "I'll be seeing you". Those words reflect the emotions of loss and grief we have all felt after losing a loved one.
Like all Band-Maid songs, I think I've got a favourite song on Epic Narratives and it turns out that it is the song I'm currently listening to. Another great album from the best band on the planet! (Really loving "Toi et moi" though 🤘🤘). Imho, no-one does rock ballads better than Band-Maid.

Love Epic Narratives top to bottom. My favorite "new songs" are Forbidden Tales and Letters to You, and The One. Also, FYI, Kanami generally plays all the guitar tracks on the albums to speed up the recording process. Miku then learn her parts to play live. This may have changed recently though as Miku's skill on guitar has gotten better.
The songs already released earlier in the year are just Band-Maid awesomesauce! The six new songs are so tightly integrated and complex, it's going to take a Tokyo minute to assimilate. But I already love Forbidden Tale, and especially The One. 😉🤘 btw - We should all wish a "Good Luck" to Band-Maid's new self-run management company: Maidit, Co., LTD! Will they managing other bands, boost Cluppo and Maiko projects, or tour more internationally? Or maybe they will expand their business interest to other sectors of the music biz outside of Band-Maid. I believe Kanami wants to get more into composing, scoring and production.
