Love the paver floor❤️ I raise cornish cross chickens twice a year. Our son and his friend share a batch as well as processing them. I then raise another batch for my mom, sister and myself. Mom is still on the farm and she raised them for us but she's now 88 years old and I took over 5 years ago to help relieve some of the work on her. She comes and helps process so it works even though we live about 80 miles apart! Thank you for sharing your life with us and I think your farm is a beautiful and peaceful place❤️
Thanks for the encouragement. I'm not worried too much about raising them, but the processing is something else we would have to learn. (or have someone else do it). It would be wonderful to have a bunch of chicken on hand, either frozen or canned. Thanks for watching.🙂
So happy you are taking time to relax in the evening, the pavilion looks great. Happy birthday to your grand daughter and happy anniversary 🎉 hugs to you both xx
Hello Don & Brenda fro Northwest NC next to Virginia. Enjoyed the video. Congratulations for 43 years of marriage. The pavilion is real nice and I'm sure you all enjoy it. Thanks for producing the videos. Looking forward to the barn repair videos. You both be safe and God bless.
@@ronmack1767 you live in a beautiful area...we love the mountains in western NC. We are hikers/backpackers who live close to the Appalachian Trail. We did a barn tour video last year...more coming in the next few months. Thanks for watching.
Another good video. I’m sorry I don’t have nothing to help you on your farm but I sure do love watching your videos. I’m an old city girl. Thank you for sharing it ❤
We just put in a 20 X32 hoop house. The plastic won't go on until February because we don't need it until then. We also took one evening to sit around the firepit and relax. One more thing to try, freeze dryer! Tip for today: no two summers are the same, so your crops are going to have good or bad years. God bless y'all and keep growing. (No wine, but a little shine and some marshmallows at our campfire.)
Best of luck with your hoop house next year. It's been a big help to us. Yes, every year is different....keeps gardening exciting. Sitting around a fire is the perfect way to end the day. Thanks for watching!
PS...We have a Harvest Right Freeze Dryer and use it constantly. The grandkids especially love freeze-dried fruit. It's such a nutritious snack to have on hand. It's great for preserving many different things.
Happy Anniversary Guys!!! The Stamped Concrete really does look great under the pavilion. I'm still trying to figure out how this model would work on my NY State Farm. How do those solar panels do in the snow??? With Three feet of snow on the roof. . .
Thanks for the compliment on the pavilion floor. The surface is actually individual concrete pavers....but it looks like stamped concrete for sure. Our son is an engineer and he designed the pavilion for the snow loads here in South Central Pennsylvania which I'm sure are much lower than New York (especially if you are in the snow belt). Engineers can design the structure for any region. Your local builders would know what is needed. We love our pavilion, especially when the whole family is here for a picnic. Thanks for watching!
Hello, everything looks great. I am hoping I we will be able to build a pavilion. I do not can inside the house. I have a three-burner chef camp stove. It runs off of propane. I have been canning on for the last 8 years and it's great and my home stays cool. Can't wait to see what you do next.
I LOVE goats! The are wonderful at clearing land and brambles. YES! They are extraordinary escape artists. They also require high maintenance. There are certain trees that must be cleared from the land (we lost at least 12 after a storm where a tree fell and the goats got to the leaves before we moved them). I no longer have them, because we never discovered why they pass so quickly. I think it is because we don't have time to manage the weeds and trees they can't eat. And, they must have acres of pasture built in paddocks with shelters and fresh water supply that requires movement from one to the other daily (parasites, worms, etc). It was just too much considering all the other chores and their very high cost with little ROI. Boers and fully grown nubians, etc., also can get mean and we were not able to have children near them. Most are good and a few might be great goats are just like a devoted dog. It is worth trying if you have a great goat farmer near.
We do know several people who have, or have had goats. If we ever decide to get some we'd definitely need a 'goat mentor'. For now, I guess we need to find a way to keep up with all that we have now.
I truly love your videos very soothing and interesting, and I was wondering if you have open hours certain times of the year in your garden area? I am in NY --- thank you, and a very Happy Happy Anniversary to you both♥♥
Thank you so much for the kind words. We have a farm stand that is open May through Mid-October, but we have given tours of the farm too. If you happen to be in our area, just message and we'd be happy to show you around.
As always very fun to see you guys and your adventures. Would like to know how you conveyed the floor of your solar patio from crushed stone to the patio you have now? How long did that last take to complete and how did you get it all level?
@@jennterrell3316 ah yes, the pavers in the pavilion. This is Don. We used a laser level to shoot a level line on all 8 of the posts, then we measure down to get the stone base level with the tractor with the bucket. Then we spread stone dust as a base to set the pavers. We use long levels to screed the stone dust level. Then we set the pavers in a random pattern. We use special sand to fill in the gaps. I worked for 2 weeks. My son came a few days to help. The tractor helped us move and level the stones. We saved a lot of money doing it ourselves! Thanks for watching.
You two seem to work great as a team. I am wondering if there are times when one of you have an idea of something you want to do and the other just says "no way"?
Oh, there are definitely times that one of us has an idea and the other isn't thrilled by it. Sometimes we go ahead an try it and other times we choose to let that one go. It all depends on how important it is to the one that comes up with the idea.
Thanks! Sending the cattle off was hard at first, but we have pretty much gotten used to it. We give them an amazing life while they are here. We're very grateful for the meat they provide for our entire family as well as others in the community. It's REALLY good beef. 😁
Hi, it’s Karen (Landfried) Hewitt… LOVE your videos! I’m going to be in Mburg on the 19th/20th for a funeral. Staying with Donna (Sandman) Werner… any chance your farm store will be open on Thursday the 19th? 😊
I’d LOVE to see your butterfly house! I’ve raised monarchs but sadly very few this year. I’ll talk to Donna and see when she’s available. Thanks! @@waardenburgfamilyfarm4764
I did can on it with my water bath canner and was just really careful. I still have to figure out the pressure canning because my all american is not compatable with induction. Thanks for the advice.
I would love to have the raw milk to make butter with, but for now I just wouldn't have time to milk her. Maybe at some point in the future when the kids/grandkids are in a position to help with that??? Have fun making butter and cheese.🙂
