I don't remember the rain, though there are some brollies visible in some of my photos. I was working on site at the time, so saw a lot of the preparations. It is always impressive to see a low loader, complete with a huge steam loco, being reversed dead straight for 200m, ending up correctly positioned on the traverser, I was also early in the queue for tickets (and parking!) for a full car load. It's the only time I've seen an A4 relegated to the second rank in a display of engines. I remember the organisers harassing Railtrack to get them to write off the track access fees for visiting locos as a donation to the charities. A couple of years later the rails where the Crewe Pacifics had stood were sold for scrap. I must get a video of my stuff together.
3:43... It would have been nice to see every AVAILABLE class of diesel and electric locomotive, all lined up, from left to right, along the tracks on the traverser. W😲W.!

00:51 I can hear Peter Dyneley now.
I dunno, do they do open days any more? At all?
No more open days as most of he site is now redundant.
