Nice combo, the unpredictability and lack of storage for sounds can be a blessing and a curse... This combined with a synth with presets is great to have.
I got a DFAM at a garage sale for $35 and it’s caused me to go down a rabbit hole of researching. I’m in love but holy shit I’m confused 😅 I’ll keep practicing though!
Wow ! Your dfam sound so loud and clear, no noise in a background. What kind of interface You used ? Any effects on a chanel or master ? Thanks for reply.
this is just straight in mono - Moog signals are some of the best signal around - a Behringer U-phoria 10 channel interface (midas pre-amps) - so it's not like the bad behringer of the old days...
Cool video, Hal! Thinking about this combo or maybe the Studio 3 with the Subharmonicon, but I'm leaning more towards this duo. The Subharmonicon might be a awkward 3rd wheel from what I've heard, and my brain needs "simplicity."
Hal Berkstresser great, I'll have a look. I just found some in the UK from a company called Thonk. They have a set screw in the side to grip the original shaft. Are yours like this as that sounds like they'd damage the original pot? Thanks. Congrats on the Subharmonicon too. It's on my list as well, Ben.
How do you like the MAFD? I’m debating whether to get one or not. I already have the ability to clock my DFAM from my DAW with a few different pieces of gear. Was curious if you feel it’s worth the price to be able to play steps out of order versus sampling each step and programming it in your DAW that way. I haven’t had my DFAM that long. Also, did you buy your larger DFAM knobs in the DFAM knob kit or somewhere else?
At first I really liked the idea of sequencing the 8-steps of the DFAM out of order, and in irregular patterns, but because I shy away from running alot of MIDI to my external stuff in favor of playing/tracking/editting I ended up selling it off. Great piece of gear, I've just not been sending much from my DAW to my external gear other than clock and occasional key-tinkling. Getting the DFAM to switch from triplet feel to straight 1/8's is pretty satisfying though....
Sonoclast makes a midi box for the DFAM called the MAFD - you can then sequence the DFAM to be an eight voice synth, essentially. You can then sequence from a DAW and you aren't restricted to 8-steps, instead 8-voices. I highlight this in one of my previous DFAM videos... :). Also, the MOTHER has MIDI in, and connects to DFAM with one patch - so that is easy also...

It's actually possible to follow you, seeing what you're doing. Excellent!
Great tips man. I've just bought both of these. More tutorial videos would be greatly appreciated!
Tight video, brother. Ty!
Great patching tips. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Loving the vids, thanks! Hey, It looks like youre gettign the DFAM to reset to 1 without the MAFD or advance button??
Very good video! I subscribed immediately ! :)

Goddamn what a deal!
What!?!?!?! Bruh.
you mean $350, correct?? Because that is even as hell! I need to go to garage sales wherever you are!
@@alexandermontagnet3361 for real man. Road trip. Im bringing snacks.
Jesus Christ $35?!! I... I can't.....ho..
He got an adrenalin spike when that moog played synced up

What are you using to raise the M32?
A 3-their stand from Moog, but placed on the INSIDE of the wood panels
Hi, thanks for your video. Really informative. Could you tell me what knobs you added to the pitch and velocity pots on the DFAM? Thanks, Ben
on reverb dot com I got a "knob upgrade" for like 20 bucks - They slip right over the existing knobs, gives much better control.

@@SCULPTURAMAplus yup - good luck!
Nice tip about ‘tuning’ the DFAM using the M32. What FX are you using on the Moogs?
just aux verb in this vid - nothing else. There is an eventide reverb unit I'm leyeing at the moment....we'll see....

Amazing. Can't wait to get my moog bass line you've created there.
Is this an older version of the DFAM? The pitch/velocity are much larger
'knob upgrade' - just some screw-on knobs to help find the right pitch - got on Reverb.com
Use the page buttons to help with step editing.
Thank You!
Where did you purchase the knobs?
reverb dot com - it was called 'knob upgrade' like ten moog knobs - really helps with the precision on the pitch knobs
thanks for this ... i subbed your channel .... this is some great stuff ,,,,, good to meet ya
of course - thanks - Making the videos helps me stay on task learning :)
Are you the Maynard James Keenan's brother?
no........?
that beat in the beginning is so hard
have you released it?
thanks - check out Albino 9 on Bandcamp or elsewhere for real releases! Thanks for subbing!
If the DFAM had midi-in, it would be such a no-brainer for me. As it is, I feel like it's a module posing as a standalone.
