Ngl, this sounds like a Roland that's gotten so much into the fighting so much that he developed schizophrenia or Alzheimer's to the point that he forgot why he's even fighting and killing again. He has that lingering sense that keeps him up from dying and keeps on fighting but he doesn't understand why, he feels sad but he doesn't know why, he feels, sorrow, anger, and angst but doesn't know why he feels them. A more depressing route of Roland where he kept fighting nonstop in the name of Angelica growing old as he does, and he keeps on fighting...... Bad end roland, dead in the sewers with all those weapons on his back. Rather than gone angels this obe fits a lot better to his bad end version. Just as you said, without a reason to fight or live he just survives in the city before eventually succumbing to his misery.
