We were originally going to post our BYM reaction this week, but LION got voted to be shown on our CMR series pretty quickly! I let our twitter followers vote on which reaction we should post this week, and LION won ^^ The reason they are not shown together is because we filmed Blow Your Mind reactions two months ago, so the reactors would have forgotten a lot about the track to compare and contrast it to LION (and we don't have time in film sessions to re-watch BYM). Also, editing a 2 song react video takes me twice as long to edit as a normal 1 song video (10 hours+), which is why I usually release double react videos on mondays (so I commit my weekend to editing it). There were still a few reactors who had to react to LION last night (11/14), which only gave me a few hours to edit the video. BYM is pushed back a few months since my release schedule is packed and Feb. is the earliest I can move it to. However, if my assistant editor Lazy Ace Dia is able to end his hiatus and join the channel in January, we can get it out that month.

There weren't direct mentions of her vocals, besides the hum at the start, but that wasn't really much to speak of. Still, even as a fan, I don't see exactly why they would've talked about Minnie's vocals in particular. She did a great job and they probably thought so as well, but they probably thought the others did too.
@@CottidaeSEA They don't usually focus on vocal in this channel, except there is an extreme, intese one that capture them at once, for example K.Will's falsetto in "Please don't..." or the climax in Brown Eyed Girls' "Sixth Sense". Minnie did a great job, undeniable, but not to the extent that they will be in awe.
@@nguyenhatien1787 Yeah, they'll usually just mention whether they thought they made a good choice with the vocals, such as whether the timbre matched the song like they did in this video. Some of the ones reacting care more about vocals than others though.
@@unknownperson8527 Every credit given to Soyeon is well-deserved. There are many talented kpop performers out there but not so much on prolific female kpop composers & producers. Powerful performer + bop composer/producer is a rare combo... a genius basically.
she also produced this entire song while her schedule was completely filled. at the same time she was remixing existing tracks for queendom and learning choreo, preparing to appear at league of legend's world finals, and (rumoured) preparing for a proper comeback. an idol schedule is nuts to begin with, but this was a step even above that. credit beyond anything for soyeon's work ethic.
I like the comment about the vocals adding texture and variation to the beat. The way Soyeon wrote the song was to compliment their voices. In their i-Talk behind the scene video for Lion, Soyeon said that when she wrote the opening part, she immediately let Minnie listen to it and then she went to Soojin for the ending part and told them - "This is your part." I think it's very advantageous that the composer is also a member, because she knows the strengths and weaknesses of each member so she can write songs that are tailored to their vocal tones rather than them having to sing something generic and out of their range.
Exactly, whenever Soyeon talks about the process of making a song she says that she writes music with the thought of giving certain parts to specific members, which really shows how well she knows what they're capable of (and also their limits). But like even when the members sing the same part (ba ba ba/ pa pa pa part in "LION") each member sounds completely different which proves how unique each one of them is.
@@nevy7097 I read somewhere that Yuqi's part is "pwa pwa pwa" to show her strength while the other members is "pa pa pa". To complement the whole song maybe... Point is, Soyeon's a genius
@@applebun9232 Haha yep. If I'm not mistaken, Soyeon even wrote "pwa pwa" instead of "pa pa" so that Yuqi emphasizes the way she pronounces it, and it goes very well with her deep voice. So "Pwaa Pwaa" all the way 🦁
I loved how my good sis in the ugly Christmas sweater recognized and pointed out how they visually represented the evolution of the group starting from having the bare minimum to becoming regal, empowered, and invincible *THROUGH THEIR CLOTHES* , like....ugh their minds 👏
What I love about I-dle is that each member has such a distinct vocal. You can tell who is singing and Soyeon recognizes each member’s vocal strength and uses it. It’s not just a bunch of girls with high pitch vocal sameness.
S. Korea's exaltation of higher voices (including on the men) and disregard (if not disrespect) for lower ones annoys me. It's almost guaranteed that in previous kpop girl groups, the member with the lowest voice would be pigeonholed as "the rapper" (f(x)'s Amber Liu, SNSD's Hyoyeon, EXID's LE, Mamamoo's Moonbyul, etc.), which is preferable to being ignored altogether. While a mandatory part of kpop songs, rap is still a decidedly secondary role (least amount of lines/time distribution in songs). Fortunately, these women found or developed real talent for the style, and three of the examples I mention have broken out of that pigeonhole and shown their strength as lyrical vocalists.
I am definitely an alto, which is why the discovery of gidle is making me so happy. I can sing along! It doesn't hurt! Lol The nasal, high pitched tone of most gg is a huge turn off to me so definitely appreciate this group.

Since she's the leader she knows the weaknesses and strengths of every member and keeps that in mind while composing these tracks. Also the other members had her back from the very beginning and encouraged her to keep producing this songs. This is the first time I have seen people react to the cool triplets in Soyeon's rap verse. She is really elevating the standards of female rapping in kpop.
TLDR: Soyeon Genius, Idle Queens! Really like how all of Soyeon's hard work is recognized by the reactors. She was even was part of the whole MV/set design this time and it shows. That's how they are able to execute the full package with this song.... structure, vocals, outfits, choreo - everything works together because Soyeon was there to oversee it.
When I first heard about Soyeon wrting the groups songs, I assumed she added a few lines or something , but then I saw some of the BTS videos and I was totally blown away by the amount of input she has......to the point of directing some of the others singing inflections .
Soyeon knows how to use the voice of each member even though she's using simple beats and melodies in her songs. She wants to highlight each member by using the music as background and not overpowering the voice of the singers. That idea alone indicates that she's good at composing and producing songs.
Many people think the line "I'm a queen like a lion" is stupid cause they don't understand it. But how I understand it, it's empowerment taken to a higher level! Who is a "king"? This is THE queen who does exactly THAT!
What I love the most about this is that when they compliment the choices in music and music video, I know that the girls (and especially Soyeon) had a huge huge part in the decision making and producing behind it - everything from the time signature to the outfits worn. Knowing that they really deserve absolutely all the praise just makes me extra happy for them and what they achieve every day. They're artists through and through.
i'm surprised no one mentioned lorde! because lion really reminds me of whole discography of pure heroin, esp glory & gore! and yellow flicker beat for the low notes? i'm literally in love with this song it's a straight bop from the first beat i swe Ar
I actually never listened so carefully to the instrumental, like you can recognize its a masterpiece but the details they pointed out made me realize how there's so much more to it, thank You.
There's something in their songs that makes me feel as if they are not singing in another language (as I am not a Korean speaker) and makes me feel as if I understand what they are singing about. It's honestly fascinating!
Honestly one of my favorite parts of the song is the alliteration used in the pre-chorus along with the constant go (고) endings of words, it gives the song a sort of flow I really love.

Soyeon is such a genius!
1:42 I feel like he stopped short coz he cant process Miyeon's visuals. I know I did the first time I watched the video.
I Promise that Serendipity is a Lie yeah she does that to people. They forget to breathe for a little while the first time they see and hear her. Then they realize they need some air.
She's really beautiful. 😭
I am obsessed with this SONG
Henry gave the same energy as “and i oop-“ in 1:42
Prue omgg fr😂
this is the first video i watched from this channel in a while and i really really like how you inserted those explanations, figures and even background music to when they were talking about something on a particular part i totally appreciate your effort.
I've been not listening to other groups and I recently knew about Jeon Soyeon. Their songs are so cool
wow I just realized each member got to sing part of the chorus, and each of them brought their own unique vocal quality to it! I'm living for the line distribution! true queens 👑
lots of korean fans are screaming from 2:44 to 2:48 cuz the lylics of here is 이제 환호의 음을 높여-모두 고개를 올려 which means 'now make higher note of cheer'-'(and) raise heads you all'
I love all of this song... feels empowering, perfect visual, either MV or Queendom, and not too much to listen repeatedly, concept and song harmony is perfect.
I like how you're now explaining some of the terminology that the reactors use for us non musicians to better understand (which is the only thing that I felt was missing in the earlier seasons); which makes me appreciate the education we're getting even more!
Thanks for reacting to it !! ♥️😊 Really nice music review !! Looking forward to BYM reaction coz I remember it really caught you off guard.
This song is so good. It’s always great when y’all explain why it sounds so good to our ears
It's great how you go further than just giving your subjective opinions about the song by breaking down the musical elements. I always feel like I learn something watching these videos.
I am just sad that all the previous reactors aren’t here 😢
I like that you've been editing the parts they're talking about into the commentary after! It's been really helpful to understanding what they're talking about
Lion is such a masterpiece!
Minnie's highnote and Soyeon's rap!
I honestly love this song .. I’m kinda obsessed really .. from the MV visuals.. I love that they have a scene of them dancing without shoes .. it was impactful cause you don’t see that often .. but the song is an Alto’s dream ... my little alto heart sores hearing this.. cause like you guys pointed out it is a lower tone rather then the usual high pitch you here from idols .. it’s a song I can here myself singing

Obviously an intelligent and perceptive group. So glad they ‘got it’ right away. Oh and hello from Neverland!
2:44 when that person started talking at minnies high note I wanted to die
Sorrrryyyyyyy 😅
ReacttotheK lmao it’s fine
I think having the English captions of the music video on during the reaction would have amplified the experience
Lion is a masterpiece y’all
I've been waiting for new Classical Musicians React videos, their reaction to songs always interests me and kind of informative even tho I don't understand 99.99% of the terms they're using even if there are explanations provided sometimes. Will definitely never stop waiting for another video.
I listened to this song for the first time and fell in live with it. The main rapper Soyeon made the song and it was amazing. We stan a hard working queen
LMAO they thought yuqi was forcing her voice to be loe
LMAOOO
Yuqi and Minnie have my favorite voices. I loooove Yuqi's low range and Minnie's versatility is really starting to shine.
It makes me so happy how LION is very appreciated in this video.
I've been waiting for you to react to this! Thanks!
Should have watch it with captions cause Soyeon is genius with the lyrics
Wow! I've been waiting your reaction of this song!! 'Lion' made (G)I-DLE a Lion!
I SCREEEEEAMED WHEN I READ THE NOTIF
My favorite group is Treasure, and even though I love them, I 100% think they can't do it like (G)i-dle. Even though I'm new to this group, all of their songs are masterpieces.
I love thing song so much. One of my favorites of 2019 and still on heavy repeat even now.
Soyeon really out here shutting up haters with just a verse THE POWER👏👏
Minnie's high note before the second chorus had me SHOOK. It was executed sooo well.
3:03 "yas bitch im a lion" my favourite
Lion is truly THE song this year. It has had such an impact on me.
Omfg you're doing BTOB's Complete next!!!
lion is just the perfect song
Omg I love that now there is an explanation for what they are saying. Thank you so much 💖
This song made me a fan of (G)I-DLE!
I feel like both the reactor crew and Umu crew in terms of profession (music) and video making. I’m truly proud to see you guys grow ☺️ alsi Fionas hair! Girl slay!
