I developed my passion for microtonal music from watching your videos when i was younger and now after growing up and forgetting about it i see a fucking video where you play one of my favorite songs by my favorite band and it all clicked and i realised that if it wasnt for your microtonal guitar videos i probably wouldnt have gotten into king gizzard in the first place and i just want to say thank you!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
It's been a week or two since I first listened to the album. The Anatolian -but more specifically Aşık Veysel- feel had been driving me crazy, wondering if I was reading too much into it. I owe you a debt of gratitude for clarifying the issue for me. It's a wonderful tribute to a great man. And thank you, Tolgahan, for the masterful recital.

Anthony, No. King Gizzard blatantly borrowed the melody. added their flavor, and introduced Microtonal-Rock Music to a whole community. People that know this type of microtonal music will know that they are referring to the artist. People that don't could be introduced to this well-established practice . Without them, I may have never known about these scales, people, and the history that came before them.
@@andreasvarousiadis9464 I just checked on my guitar - in Rattlesnake and Sleep Drifter it seems to be the natural minor scale but with a neutral 2nd and neutral 6th. So the 2nd is halfway between the minor 2nd and major 2nd, and same for the 6th. In some of their later songs like Static Electricity and East West Link, it seems to be neutral 3rd and neutral 7th instead. I'm sure there are Turkish/Arabic/Indian names for all of these scales but I don't know them...

I think they watched some of my videos when they were in Turkey. They bought folk instruments like baglama and zurna and learnt how to play these instruments.
after getting used to ethnic-infused western music, you get to appreciate the art it got inspired from raga rock got me into ravi shankar folk metal got me into veljo tormis and now psyche rock has gotten me both into flamenco and middle eastern microtonal! lovely :)

By what I can tell, I believe they used this same tuning for a lot of Flying Microtonal Banana and C# for some of the songs from "I'm In Your Mind Fuzz". Best I can tell going on video evidence.
Tolgahan, I saw this yesterday and it made my day, I had to come back. I don't know much about microtonal music, this KGLW album really gave me the chills, especially the melody of Sleep Drifter. Since now I can see that this has direct inspiration from Anatolian music, could you please recommend some names so that I can search for more music and to buy some turkish music when I go back to Istanbul? Thank you.
One criticism is the microtones they used. They used 50-cent quartertones. They should have used 35 cents lower microtones for the real Anatolian impact. But i think it is practical to have quartertone guitar rather than a complicated asymmetrical one with the 35 cents lower ones.
You can check Elman Namazoğlu and Kurtuluş Türkgüven. I don't know if you heard of these guitarists, they don't use microtonal frets but they can give that vibe with legato and microtonal bends.
Also they seem to have used zurna in their recordings in this album. And I wondered why this is my favorite track as well, haha. I guess me being Armenian had a similar effect, since I have found the whole album to have a somewhat native sound to me. Do you know any Turkish bands that play the same kind of music? Would love to check them out. And thank you for this video. Amazing stuff.
the folk music from this part of the world is really cool. i like how System of a Down use Armenian folk music to influence their style too. that’s the thing about folk music, no matter where it comes from it’s very soulful and pure.
I'd love an in-depth analysis/reveiw of the music on this album from someone who understands this kinda music. It's very lacking on UA-cam. I can find a million videos on UA-cam about regular 12 tone guitar and bass but hardly any microtonal guitar and absolutely nothing for bass.And I doubt they teach this at the Universities.

Thanks! Rattlesnake has an Anatolian feel too but with no specific phrases. It's because of the scale with two microtones.

They definitely used an open tuning and used a capo for different keys. I'm not sure which open tuning though.

the folk music from this part of the world is really cool. i like how System of a Down use Armenian folk music to influence their style too. that’s the thing about folk music, no matter where it comes from it’s very soulful and pure.

I'd love an in-depth analysis/reveiw of the music on this album from someone who understands this kinda music. It's very lacking on UA-cam. I can find a million videos on UA-cam about regular 12 tone guitar and bass but hardly any microtonal guitar and absolutely nothing for bass.And I doubt they teach this at the Universities.

You must do it. This is not complicated. You need quartertones for some keys. But the best solution on keyboards is touch keys.
