It's no secret that the pull-up is an essential exercise to develop your back, raw pulling power, grip strength, and even a balanced posture and physique. And the best part is… you can do them from home. Here’s 5 types of pull-up bars that we've used over the years to get our pulling sessions in. - Розваги
After making this video I realized there are a few thoughts I left out....
1. In my opinion most of these products are a bit overpriced for what you're receiving. If you're a handy person or can do some DIY stuff head in that direction. Or go with gymnastic rings, they will serve you for a long time for minimal expense.
2. The lower bar (basebar but there are other companies) can be really handy for developing your first pull-up if you're not there yet. This is because as you see in the video, you can do rows on it quite easily. This will help you develop your back muscles enough to eventually get that pullup.
3. If you want to do weighted pull ups, which are great for developing more back strength... you'll most likely want to go with a squat stand variation because you need something sturdy.
4. My pick: if money isn't a worry I'd go with a squat stand. If I'm on a budget I go with rings. Combining both is your own personal training heaven at home :)
Doesnt the doorway pull up ruin the door for us that are renting?
No. Not necessarily. Make sure you have something which stops rubbing. You might need to sand and paint afterwards. But they don’t cause real damage.
@GuidetteExpert slight scuffing of the paint on wall and/or trim around the door is worst case scenario if installed and used correctly. Ive used them for months at a time without any marking on my house at all
@@primalperry5667 Okei maybe I can have some kind of silicone pads under. Thanks for your tip.
are you guys related?
At 43 years young, I'm working on my first pull up ever. Been obese my entire life. I can almost pull up to 90 degrees at my elbows. I have a way to go but I know I'm almost there. Thank you guys. Discovered your channel a couple months ago and started a daily hang routine. It has changed my life for the better. Have lost nearly 30 lbs since my first hang attempt which lasted nearly 3 seconds lol. Life is beautiful.
Thanks for sharing this. Super inspiring. You got this!
I too am 43, things like freehangs and negatives might be really helpful for getting your joints ready. Some long resistance bands are super helpful. The hanging is great for grip and getting your shoulders into proper overhead extension and strengthening the shoulder joints prior to developing the muscles for pullups. Congratulations on your weight loss and all of your current progress!!! 👏
Rock on Brother! You WILL get there.
Rock on!
And... just move, every day.
amazing work mate! Keep it up it only gets better
Hi I'm a 59 yr old woman who stretches daily, and plays tennis. My son and you two educate me a lot. I'm now hanging from my son's doorframe mounted bar daily. He'll be moving out soon and taking it with him. I can hang rings from my ceiling!
That's great!
I built a pair of pullup bars in my back yard using 4x4's, buckets sunk into the ground with concrete, a pipe and a flange. There are lots of youtube videos out there to show you how to do it and this was an easy project. The result has been fantastic. By the way, I'll soon be 67 and I'm still working out 4 days a week. Even sets of hanging from the bar for as long as I seem really beneficial.
Hangs are the most underrated exercise there is. I had all sorts of niggles in my shoulder and back from sitting in office chairs all day for decades, and after seeing a YT video about hangs I started on them and within a month all my niggles disappeared. I got my parents who are in their 70's onto them and they said they now feel 10 years younger, just from some simple hangs (and walking). Everyone I know who does them raved about how much better they feel now.
I just got a set of rings, and I am enjoying watching the results. I also am waiting on a delivery of a pair of parallettes. I’m 62 and have fallen in love with body weight training. I enjoy the flexibility of not needing to be in a gym for strength building. You guys are awesome!
Thank you so much for your channel! I love your easy going nature, but you two also make everything accessible for everyone. I'm rebuilding my fitness after a bit of a detour, and a pair of those wood rings sure would help out! I'm not super comfortable with the gym, so I'm using calisthenics, yoga and jumping rope to get myself back on the right track!
Just discovered your youtube page a few days ago and it couldn’t have been at a better time… when, at 24 years old, my gf is saying i have the body of a 85 year old man.. I’ve always been active but never flexible and it’s causing TONS of avoidable injuries. Your page has been making me motivated to keep my body and mind active all day so j can unlock my muscles.
Thanks and cheers to more mobility! Pull-up rings would be ideal and bad ass!
As someone who is admittedly overweight and just getting started, I really appreciate that you guys -- advanced as you clearly are -- make sure to keep these videos inclusive to those who aren't as far along as you. I appreciate the videos and am buying a set of rings to hang from the tree in my yard now.
Thank you Gentlemen. I literally just watched one of your videos for the first time & could not agree with you more. I struggled for DECADES with drugs, alcohol and food addictions resulting in my BodyWeight reaching 340 lbs @ 40% body fat. NOW I make it requirement to do a brisk walk daily. Outside when possible but inside if necessary, But it still gets done. Thank you both for the Encouragement & Wisdom
I have the exact same "Khanh Trinh Pull-Up Bar Stand". In my opinion, it's a great product. I use it for pull ups, rows, ring muscle ups, back lever, etc. I never had any problem with this product. The big advantage is that it's square foot friendly (in live in a apartment)
Thank You Guys!!!! I really appreciate all the suggestion for daily health and fitness. I'm 60 plus... try to do a routine or a process to keep me moving and feeling great.
@Strengthside has changed my life as of two years ago. I had no idea I could get in great shape without the gym. I'm always looking out for new ways to test myself, and am excited to see how far I can take this journey. Thanks for being there for us guys!
I'm nearly 64 & have just started a basic calisthenics routine last Monday. I bought a set of rings as I can hang them under our back verandah plus I like that as you said, my hands aren't locked into one position. They seem the most versatile out of all the options available.
I always enjoy your site even though I find workout practices more difficult now. In 2020 I had lumbar spinal fusion that caused an infection. The result was loss of leg strength, back problems, and difficulty walking. Now at 80 I no longer exercise 5 or more days a week (the gym, walking and swimming). There is a pull-up bar where I walk and I have tried it a few times. Your video is an encouragement to use it more often. Get out and move as often as you can because you never know how quickly your abilities can change.
Love the videos guys! I recently found your channel when I was looking for hamstring stretches and you introduced me to so much more in the world movement. I'm now working on getting my pullups stronger to be able to move over to rings in a few months! Thanks for the motivation!
atta boy!
Sometimes I feel like yall are making your videos just for me! Was juuuuust thinking I need to research an outdoor pull up bar for spring and summer!!! Keep up the awesome work! Love and Light
Starting to getting back to shape at close to 39 years old. I only can use the bars at a distant park from where I live, since I don't have neither space nor budget for quality equipment for home. Those rings would add more to my training on the park for sure. Following your journey on YT, you guys rock!
Incredible upper body strength and body control! I have been working out mostly at home, since I stopped going to gym during COVID. That reminds me to make a trip to the neighborhood park!! Thank you!
yeah - neighborhood park is free!!
My favourite Setup is:
When living in a flat I had a Doorway setup with the rings hanging was the most convenient.
Now I’ve got a outside bar between 2 threes like pull up stand hand made and is where I hand the Rings.
All thank to you guys a few years back love you content
Thanks for sharing options that are accessible for without a gym! I appreciate the thoughtful videos with such good education
Thanks for the video. I've been thinking about both the gymnastics rings and pull-up bar for awhile.
Thanks for explaining each set up! Super helpful!
This is just great. I am in the market for both me and my kids for these types of setups, so thanks much for the options and the multifunctional focus.
The rings are a great, flexible and minimal tool. I love them. Thanks for all the great content guys!
God damn finally just a video where someone points to a squat stand brand and demonstrates its stability for pullups. Thank you so much.
I’ve been using a pull-up stand i recently got but would love some gymnastic rings to go with it :) Keep killin’ it guys!!
the hangboard and the rings make a really nice combination. already have a door pull-up bar, would honestly love those rings since I've been getting into calisthenics. I don't have much strength yet so I'm trying to build a nice foundation first, but your channel has inspired me a lot on this journey 🤍
Best video I've ever watched on this topic, thanks for your help 🙏
Love the vids and the guided program is insane👀 shoulders haven’t felt better thanks 4 everything!
Thanks for sharing your wisdom with the world!
Exceptional video; your thoughts are always insightful and practical for the at-home enthusiast
I love the pull-up bar set up ! I would love to get more experience with the gymnast rings since they are easy to travel with and convenient :) you guys rock !!
This helped sooo much! Thanks. Just what I needed.
Thanks so much for your videos, they are an inspiration for my journey to 10 pull-ups
Super helpful. Didn’t even know about half of these. Thanks guys
Sick video, my favorite pull-up setup was the hang board and rings!
Love this Video. Great advise for people that cant invest too much into their fitness journey
I've only ever done pullups on a straight bar, would love to be considered for the ring giveaway to take my push and pull strength to the next level! Thanks for the video
Inspired by your guys style of training. 14 years of powerlifting and I really needed a change in my relationship with fitness. Favorite pull ups are weighted on a bar.
That's a scam, don't fall for it, wait for a confirmation in the official channels!
Love the content. So much information for gains and y'all are really funny too.
Thank you for sharing useful information about the movement and its benefits. My favorite pull-up set-up is the doorway pull-up bar. I also like rings because I can do a lot of different exercises with them, which will improve me and they are easy to carry. But at the moment I don't have any, it would be great to win them, especially from you, because it was your videos that inspired me to do stretch exercises and move more on a daily basis.
Want to start calisthenics, would be great now since summers coming up. Love your content, I’ve learned a lot. Been looking into getting some equipment as I’m planning on creating a home set up in my garage. Most likely a squat rack after watching this video. Trying to do so on a budget, wouldn’t mind a pair of rings. Thanks👊
I love the idea of the rings. They look fun!
Great video, I have a new deck (like the one in your video) that is high off the ground and have been wondering what kind of pull-up setup to hang on it. Love the idea of the rings! Thx for this video!
Awesome video. Thanks guys. I bought a door way pull up bar 💪🏼 Much appreciated fir the great info
Great video and great ideas and generally I just love listening to these two. two generally good guys. bless you both and thank you for your tips.
I've been waiting for this video! I'm looking into getting a fingerboard to help with climbing... I would love a set of rings!!
This was quite informative. Thank you both.
All the options mentioned are good, but in my opinion the gimnastic rings are the most versatile of them. I would love to have a pair to have fun outdoors.
Love your content.
My setup is A pull up bar mounted on the wall.
Thank you guys. This video is 🔥
Awesome info boys. Keep up the great content! Love using doorway pull up bars too!
Got into climbing last year and the gym has a pair of gymnastics rings. Id love to have a pair of my own for when I travel this summer!
Very helpful video, I just bought the base bar :)
Very good advices in there. Thanks, usefull vdo as always
You guys are awesome thank you for your hard work and sharing knowledge
Fav pull up setup - my deck and doorframe pullup bar.
Park pull up setups are great for muscle up work
Very useful informacion as always, thank you.
I really want those rings!! Been meaning to grab some and setting up my home calisthenics / movement snack area.
Great video once again guys, keep it up! :)
Love all the options. Great job, as always! Those rings would be really helpful :)
Great video! Overdue advice that will benefit a lot of people.
Hey guys thanks for all the videos they are really helpful this video also I love your routines I think keeping it playful and fun is the best advice you gave me !
I'm at that awkward age... too young for Medicare and too old for women to care... but I'm gonna get there, you watch! Base Blocks, looks cool, I'd get the collapsible version
lol
with y’a brother!
Great video. Thanks for a thoughtful and balanced take. Working pull ups was really helpful for me to resolve long term shoulder pain. Scaling and building up, of course. I’ll take pull ups anywhere I can get them!
Nice man me too!
I really enjoyed this video been thinking about pull ups for a couple months now and I had couple of these ideas but I didn't even think about the rings they take up so little room and are so versatile imma get some for sure
My favorite are the gymnastics rings. You inspired me to get a pair during the pandemic and it was a great motivation to get outside, go to nature and hang them from a branch or from pullup bars.
lovely!
My current set up was pretty life changing ngl. Pull up bar with dip bar contraption. I really want to start incorporating rings tho! Great vid as always 😊💪
Thanks for the great info. Still trying to figure out a good solution
Great video guys! 🔥
Big fan of your videos. Keep it up.
Nice video. I love doing pull ups at the local park. It’s great to get out of the house and get a solid work out in the sun 🌞 💪
Super thanks. Great inspiration you give me. Ive decided to make a pulluprack in my garden. Unfortunately i have a shoulder injury so its hard to train for muscle ups. But I will get there with your videos. Time to work on flexibility in the meantime!
I got a pull up bar and a tree branch but I’m so excited to use rings for the spinny element on my wrists and I’m about to go on the road so I’ve been looking for something to take with me and maybe it’s ambitious but it would be cool to have a low bar in the van but idk. It’s crazy you posted this the morning I was gonna post my pull up reel in an effort to not worry about training in public you guys are awesome ❤
My favourite/dream setup would be:
Hanging the rings on a permanent spot on my ceiling inside, instead of setting it up every single time I wanna use it outside. Preferable near my patio doors that can open and let the sun in when exercising. When my little cousins come over I can lower the rings and lay a gym mat underneath for them to play with.
That would be perfect and a dream come true.
Thank you for your great content 👌🏻🙌🏻
Love this video, great takes on the at home options. I did want to note though, that depending on the weight, most general use I hooks supplied by big box hardware stores are not actually rated for suspending substantial vertical loads from ceilings. There have been many accidents related to improper use of I hooks. Use caution and look for brackets rated for vertical load suspension.
Terrific information. Thanks for sharing. I want to build an outdoor pull-up system.
KIS! Keeping It Simple, ensures consistency! Great job guys!
My current set up is a bar in the the park a 3 mile cycle.
No suitable trees nearby. Id love rings as they are so versatile and can go in my backpack. I love the idea they can awake your back even when attached to a vertical lampost
My favourite pull up set up(basically a set up for calisthenics only) is to hang on rings, it has everything I need. My fitness journey started with your free gymnastics rings program and I made a crap ton of progress doing it😂, I am forever grateful to Josh and the community for this❤. I want continue to use rings in the future but the access was ceased due to shifting homes, currently stuck doing wall pull ups🤣, would absolutely love the signature strength side rings
Thanks for the share guys, been loving these equipment review videos. I’m looking forward to getting into rings and one day I would love to get a squat rack at home. Been a long time SS subscriber & customer and appreciate the content you guys drop 🙏🏽🤸🏽
Thanks Chris!
I'm from Moscow, 33 years old. Love your videos. Great job 👍.
About this video, it's so perfect in time. A few weeks ago I bought my first rings and I'm thinking about where to train. I have rings in my gym and I use them every training. But there is not enough bar height. So I need better place for rings. And you guys just gave me a whole picture of that.
be on the lookout for high bars to hang them from :)
Love the workout options
My 2 year old daughter and I do gymnastics on that same wobbly "power tower" you guys have. I'm 6' 5" so I can actually hang without having to bend my legs. Would love a pair of wooden rings to play with. You guys rock!
Good video, I can learn a lot of things that can be improved to build the power tower
Thanks guys - really helpful! I have a pull up bar attached to an outside wall of my house and it's great but would prefer something for freestanding. Was thinking about rings to build up my strength and would use these at the local park as well as home. Would love it if your set could come my way!! X
Great tips guys, I've got decent options at home luckily and am too cheap to buy a gym membership. I hate working out in public, I even get nervous about neighbors watching when I'm in the back yard lol. I don't even let my wife watch, I hide away. I've really got to work on that. My favorite is rings. They are not fixed so they're good for joint health and stabilizing muscle development, easy to adjust heights, reliable ( no worries about shit falling apart and tipping over lol), and also inexpensive and fairly durable.
You boys are the best love the vids
this was awesome thank you
I haven't been on UA-cam in about a week - and by coincidence, I was going to DM you folks to see how your home "hang bar" set up was installed, so that I could DIY one myself. Also by coincidence, I'm looking for some gymnastics rings. Probably too late, no worries. Appreciate all the info and great content from the Strength Side! Keep up the great work!
I like all the setups (bars, and rings, fingerboard) for different things. Would love a set of rings or a fingerboard at home. But good call on the DIY and the park. Even in Iceland, I usually get by with a bar at one of the local park gyms, or a sturdy tree branch.
I have been using a door way pull up bar which got the job done, I still hang from the bar as I go past but I now have my squat rack set up which is nice and sturdy although my ceiling is pretty low so I have to watch my head as I reach over the bar :) .
I love the rings personally because of their multiple applications. When finished you can stow them in a back pack and carry them easily. I love the fact they’re so portable. The other reason is I can get my shoulders into external rotation with multiple exercises eg pull up, dip, top position which is good for cuff activation
Great as always !!!!
These are all great options! :)
You're so positive guys. I love calisthenic. Your videos are very motivating. You give me a lot of energy to exercise, for which I thank you with all my heart. For me you are number 1! Greetings from Poland.
big hugs bro!
My favorite would be the Rings, so versatile!
I’ve never been able to do a pull up but love strength training. I want to achieve my first one this year. I think I would want rings because I could rig them up so many places!
Favorite pull-up set are rings. I can use them anywhere. I also love bands. The bars are on my list of wants.
My favorite pull up setup is going to a park near by and doing pull/muscle ups! Nothing like working out in the great outdoors!!
I would love a squat stand, but I need to build my upper back strength so I think I will start with the base bar. Thanks for the recommendations!!
