  • The display we create to show our bonsai forms a holistic presentation of the creative motivation behind the design ideas used to inspire our trees. We first have to understand how the bonsai display began, how it is executed, and the baseline references that allow us to orient ourselves enough to give us the freedom to explore. In this video, we build your skills on a fundamental display of a tree with a stand, accent, and jita selection, as well as a traditional Japanese three-point display; understand the spacing, the height, and the aesthetic behind the elementary display to give yourself the platform to innovate.

Thanks so much for the Show Bonsai Trees display. On the Awesome Pine Tree I thought the Bonsai Pot was wrong Color. Have a Suggestion what would Happen if you have a Wood look Wrap on your Bonsai Pot. Maybe a new Way to show your Bonsai Tree without doing a Repot of the Bonsai Trees? Would could make the Bonsai pot look like Mable Pot! I know You could Pull it off Ryan.

I am definitely captured as a student by this content as none of my bonsai books talk much about display. I want to hear your insight on scrolls and Suiseki. Also what are your thoughts on a round vs an oval pot in display?

Shouldn't the Pine tree be on the other side, leaning into the display? Steve.

What about dimensional height of jita, ie. stacking boards or a legged jita for accent piece?

This is a very useful video. I’ve only displayed my trees once or twice in my club’s show. I wasn’t really sure what I was doing I had a stand for my trees but no act sent plants. I was just winging it 😅 I think your sweatshirt Ryan morel mushrooms 🍄

I'm loving the content of these but I can't help but wince at rather forceful manner of presentation. Stands out even more given such serene subject matter. Maybe it's just me, I don't know.

With light application of Plasti Dip or comparable removable vinyl paint, you can adjust color of stand for special tree. Then remove after a show to restore original color 💯✨

@@l49165 I obviously cannot write for Matt but for me I find that accents and “colloquial variants” tell a story about an individual. Most people have a relatively unexciting linguistic story but others, particularly those who have lived in more than one region or country, have a fascinating story. When I hear something unusual it creates a desire to understand its origin.

@@l49165 Chill out. I enjoyed the video and lots of Ryans content. I have never heard someone say Height that way and I don't think its a colloquial variant though I am happy to be proven wrong and it was pretty distracting ngl.

It's commonly said that way in the construction and drafting industries across the country. Which caused me to start saying it that way.

Strange that you are talking about this. Lately, when you post photos of trees, you show parts of the trees. Never the whole tree. It's not artistic nor is it creative. It's a photographer who doesn't know how Bonsai are displayed. And a client who doesn't seem to know either. There is a reason Bonsai are photographed as the whole tree and not random parts of a tree.
