    That Xquisite catamaran at bluewater pulled into our slip right after we left. We were right there for 10 days prior.

      @@sailingEV888 I have seen them at the boat shows, and they are really nice. My only quibble is that arch, and also I really don't like saildrives. I don't know if you had a chance to see the aft cabins, but the view out those side windows right from the bed is pretty amazing.

      I chose not to film inside because there are children's private areas. I believe children do not belong in vlogs and should have privacy until they are 21. I'll bet it looked amazing, though..

    a septre 36 has 5,500 lbs balast in her keel, that is over 2 tons,😳 start takeing on water and comprmize boyancy your going straight to the bottom, major safety strike against a mono hull, that said if faceing a carabean hurricane im on the septre,, my laguna 24 has a 600 lb cast iron swing keel that if not maintained could fall off, im also building a new composite water tight companion way hatch

    Thanks for the video! At 25 minutes he us describing his American Power Systems alternator. Very robust design. Probably the 5 kw 360 amp model derated to 300 as he says. It is not a Balmar.

    • @sailingEV888
      @sailingEV888  5 місяців тому

      Thanks for specifying this. I wonder what the lowest horsepowered engine could accommodate this alternator? I have an 80 Amp balmar style alternator and balmar computer control box. It works wonders in small engine mode at 20% field. What is your system? Any suggestions?

    • @en8581
      @en8581 5 місяців тому

      @@sailingEV888 I don’t claim any expertise but I and many others have a 5 kw alternator on a 50 hp (equal to 37 kw) diesel. So unless at full power there is plenty of extra power for the alternator, and this is even better at mid RPM use since diesels like to be loaded. I cannot say how small an engine would be too small. Another issue is whether on a new engine the manufacturer will say you void the warranty if the take off power induces side loads that damage the bearings. Yanmar and Volvo will not generally put in writing that this is ok. However, I believe that Beta, for example gives their blessing to these installations as they say their Kubota block has heavy duty crankshaft bearings.

    I think a small catamaran maby could be cool.. more wpace then a mono and u could strand it.. but they say its unsafe in heavy weather and they cant go upwind so good. So i dont know man.. and price for marinas🤗 do you wanne have a catamaran?

    • @sailingEV888
      @sailingEV888  5 місяців тому +1

      It would provide more space. I intend to start having supporters and viewers on the channel come aboard. My vessel is packed with camera gear.. edit suite guitars.. there is no space ! A cat could be a cool thing to own. However at this point I'm a monohull person..

      Take a look at the Windelo's ... And the Dudley Dix 55 but if you have space, time and skills you can always build your own. Wood epoxy designs ..covered in a composite skin.
      You will find some of the most traveled vessels are James Wharram designs. ..but look at Tiki and Pahi designs with enclosed helms.. if you look for any vessel look for designs that insulate and protect you from the elements ..hot and cold torrential rain and hail ...as a S African heritage will know how dangerous that can be ... especially with changes to the weather.
      Also look at The Maine cats .. 38'
      Jeans are only warm if they stay dry and take an age to dry ... 😂 best to wear insulated quick dry trekking trousers .. zip off legs save shorts carrying but full length thermal under garments are best for high latitude/ temperate climbs..
      Oiled Wool jumpers help when it gets really cold. Waterproofs and windproofs are essential.

      Symmetrical Dagger board cats do a very good job .. if they are a bit more slow bear off a little and you will usually make up the angle distance with the extra speed you have.
      My two favourite cats have @2M of freeboard so poundings even less likely .
      On the ball at anchor or dried out on a sand bar, mud flat or beach or high up a shallow river.. there's no need for a marina even if there's one where you want to go. So unless your monohulls a bilge keel or has a lifting keel and protected rudder and drive the deeper draft is going to force you into marinas or to stay further off shore anyways.🤷🏻🧙🏼‍♂️🇬🇧
      There's also the tidal ranges that you face in many parts of the world outside of the Med. and Caribbean... So unless your behind locked gates or in dredged deep berths you are likely to be stuck on the bottom or over on your side hoping there's no waves when the tide turns and starts refloating you.

    A fancy boat like that needs lithium batteries and a safe way to heat them when in Canada or cold weather. You guys are funny talkin about what you can and can’t buy at stores even with unlimited budgets lol

    I disagree, this is not a custom build it is a production boat, that has been accessorised. Stainless steel framework holding up the Bolt on solar panels. The cockpit has everything led through jammers to two winches. It is just the cheapest way to build a cockpit, A real blue water cat has at least twin helms and dedicated winches for all major sail handling and should be a full monocoque structure, and definitely have dagger boards, not just for sailing upwind but so they can be raised in heavy weather.
