  • The FMS 1400mm T-28 can be flown on a 4s, a 5s, or a 6s battery without any changes to the prop or other mods...Just swap the battery and go fly.
I wanted to get some speed measurements using each battery size. All were 2700mAh for each of the different cell counts, to help normalize the test. In addition, all measurements were in level flight only, with two passes. (one in each direction.)
There is a very noticeable difference between the 4s and 5s battery. The 4s just gives a stable and scale flight, but the 5s makes it much more fun to fly.
The 6s is thicker, and makes the canopy not want to close all the way. I think if you plan to use a 6s, you will need to find a smaller battery or plan on modifying the canopy to let it fit better.
In summary, I think my sweet spot on this model is the 5s battery. Plenty of power, and no mods needed to get it to fit.

Just set this plane up and fitted a 100A avian esc for 6s. 140A max. Tried a 130A avian and it went to 180A! Motor was very hot afterward after an amp test on the stand. Suprised the stock 80A doesn't panic and bottom out at full throttle on 6s.

You will have a hot-rod with that set up!

@Plane Fun let's hope so but iv reduced the timing to 5° to calm it down. Don't want the motor to only last a few flights! I'm thinking I might do 5s on it to reduce the chances of the motor overheating

My righthand main gear door didn't close fully. It was caused by the strut not going deep enough into the wheel well.
Cured mine by packing up the outer two screws that secure the e-retract unit to the wing thus rotating the strut further. Simple but effective.

Is that the case with most FMS models? I have the motor/esc from a 1300mm p40 but can’t find if it’ll support more than the “recommended” 4s

Good video. Have you had any issues with the nose gear collapsing on this plane? Thanks

Amazing Bird, can’t wait to fly mines once I get some more experience with my trainer. Also I just purchased two of the Spektrum 80amp ESC and plan on installing them in Horizon 1.2m T-28 Trojan and P-47 Razor Back in the future. I was wondering if I’ll need to buy any additional connectors or plugs ie Batteries, receivers or motor for the installation.

Yes, this T-28 is (was) an awesome plane. - I wrecked in when I had my hat-cam falling and I tried to grab it, and took my eyes off the plane...Wound up piling it in.
As for connectors - The eFlite 1.2m planes all use the EC3 connector, so if your new ESC does not have those attached, it is easy to solder them on. (Some ESC's do not come with any connector for the battery, so the customer can decide what they want and solder it on)
You should not need any receivers, as nearly all the eFlite planes come with a stabilized/SAFE receiver in them, unless you buy the PNF version. (If you have a Spektrum radio though, the BNF version saves a lot of money)

Did u fly much on 6s? After a few Amp test of 5 seconds each my motor was very very hot peaking st 150A on a 100A esc.

Your not going to see a dramatic change in speed between the 3 batteries but you'll definitely see an improvement in power.

It turned out to be about 10mp increase per cell added. The 5-cell was the sweet spot on it.

    V4?
    Interesting comparison.
Pity no temperature checks on motor and esc for completeness. Granted that the motor is not easy to access, but esc is.

I was only interested in seeing the speed variances. The manual claims 4s, 5s, 6s is okay to use with no prop changes etc....(I had to assume that means the ESC and motor would not have any adverse heat impacts)

I was not shure about flying this plane on 6s, is it safe to do?

    • @44Mag
      @44Mag  4 роки тому +1

The manual says it can be flown with a 4,5,or6s battery without swapping the prop or the ESC.
I had no troubles when I did it, but I can say to get a 6s 2700 battery in it, I had to tape the canopy shut. I think if you had a 6s, 1800 it would fit okay. I did not want to carve the canopy out, so I just fly it on a 4s or a 5s now. (2700 on either one fits just fine)

Ok I just done some reading up and looking at the FMS website and my model has the newer 650kv motor which is 4s recommended so no wonder I was pulling 180A on 6s! Has yours got the older 460kv motor like the P47? If so that is rated to 6s. Cheers

I no longer have mine. (I took my hands of the remote one day to try to catch my hat cam that was falling, and I plowed it in hard)
I do recall it was the 1400mm FMS model, and the instructions specifically stated it was okay to use 4,5,and 6s batteries, with no need to change the prop or anything else.
Not sure what motor was in it. - Sorry.

I think I will be very happy on 4s... Speed is not the thing with me....Mine arrives sometime this week ....

I felt that the 5s was the sweet spot on this one for me. It gave it practically unlimited climb, which is always a good thing. It does fly just fine on a 4s 2700-4000 pack though. (I probably would not go with anything smaller, unless you really put it far forward for balance.)
I wrecked mine on the last flight, due to trying to catch my hat cam that was falling off my head. (Video is posted of that flight and crash)
I think over the winter, I will add the Freewing L-39, the eFlite A-10, and then get this FMS T-28 again.
The only negatives I saw on it was the wheel doors were bent from the factory, and would not shut good. Also, the main gears have a retaining screw in them, and you need to check those every 6-7 flights, or it will back out and the gear will fall off. (happened on the flight before the one where I crashed it. (video posted of that one too, although I did not figure out that was the issue till the end of it)
I am sure you will like it a lot.....
      Thanks for watching.

    • @44Mag

@@gabrielmorales9752 It may fit okay? I put a 5s in it with no issues. When I used a 6s, I had to tape the canopy down, so your 4s should be fine I think? (I was using a 3300 4s from China Hobby, and their packs are bigger than my other 3300 packs.)
