Land Rover Defender vs Discovery - Tea Cup 4x4 Challenge Ormeau

- In this 4x4 video we find ourselves at Ormeau QLD taking on the Tea Cup off road obstacle/trail. It is a short rock crawling section with a few rock pools making the climb wet and slippery.
We have 4 Land Rover 4x4 vehicles including:
Land Rover Discovery 1 v8 2 door Pre Update variant on Nissan Patrol Diffs (open front LSD rear)
Land Rover Discovery 1 300tdi with rear Maxi Drive Locker
Land Rover Defender 110 TD5 with open diffs
Land Rover 110 County with rear Detroit auto locker and an Ashcroft Ashlocker in the front
All these 4wd vehicles are on 35 inch tall tyres.
This was a very enjoyable 4x4 trip in Ormeau Queeensland Australia and we hope you enjoy the video.

@@charliebrown-zf2fx thank you so much 👍 Another advantage is they patrol diffs have bigger/stronger cv's and axles.
Technically some of those trucks came kn the same chassis. The defe der came j an 80" wheel base a 110"w.b and 140. The discovery 1 and 2 and defender were not true 4x4s u less you installed front and rear differential lockers. It uses the ABS to transfer power to work LIKE a 4x4 but they are not a true 4x4. They are all wheel drive with open diffs and a lockable transfercase
the setup on these land rovers dont look cheap.
What’s the suspension set up on the green 110?
husq2100 3.5inch dobinsons custom variable coils with 12inch travel superior engineering shocks.

It's not the driver...it is the truck...it is in a different class with the Discovery...and it is a V8

Great video guys.. Loved the challenging terrain.. Does an enhanced discover 1 perform better than a stock defender? I love discovery and I want to get one. I see it struggling abit on the terrain as compared to the defender
The green defender had axle diff locks, that's why it did better. Otherwise the other three cars would have done it just as easily
Discovery guys should drop some tyre pressure to get the grip

That disco looks like it's going to break something every time it loses traction... Does it have a getting locker?
The Brewery If your referring to the white disco it doesnt have lockers and only a rear lsd. Earlier on it broke 2 shocks and thats why it looks like the diffs shake violently when looking for traction.

Hi, I hope someone read this message. Recently I've been considering buying a land rover as a first car, I don't have too much money to afford a defender (wich it is my favourite one), so I thinked buying a land rover discovery tdi 300, wich its price is very cheao considering land rover, what do you say, yes or no. Thanks to the one who readed and helped me.

Question for the rover diff guys what ratio you running for 35's im on 32s and its slow as shit now. surely you must have 4.11's
LandRoverLife I guess everyone is different and what they want out of their rig. For example in my D1 its running 4.43 while in my 110 im still running standard 3.54 as its running an lt95 box and tc. Both on 35s.
What motor is in the 110 i notice it says v8 but sounds like a diesel is it an isuzu ??

I have not driven a diesel powered land rover. My RRC 94 County LWB has a 4.2.. My question is the red defender and the silver disco have the same problem, it appears they have very sensitive Clutches or throttles? Is the Green defender more powerful? The green defender always has great throttle control. I would maybe have them focus on that or put a spring on that throttle someplace to stiffen it up so it doesn't surge so much on the trail. Every time the disco lets off the throttle he gets traction, all the time he is in the throttle he is not moving. Great videos! Thank You!

Shows very good the difference between the calm driver in green using the transmission very well and the others using the clutch too much.

What’s the green defender got for suspension set up? And how did you get so much flex?
What I see is... sometimes is not the car... but the driver which counts.
I think defender still better than discovery even with the others in all cases

I think the green defender driver was the best!
My first fwd was a two a short wheel base Ute. Fantastic, though I have had a few different breeds since then , i have had ,Suzukis Toyotas, Nissans, pajeros, now a ford ranger, still love the old landies, still a good looking and very very capable vehicle.
All vehicles have their strong points but the main thing is we get out there and have a good time 👍

If they can overcome all the extreme torture they've been subjected to, why are Land Rover sales ever low?
One reason is most people will never do that kind of driving. Now they all want leather and Infotainment centers.

But don't u think if Land Rover added the leather and infotainment it'll be an added selling point?
Because the new ones are moist and the older ones I.e disco 1 & 2 are complete rust buckets and expensive to run in the UK at least

Defender is way better than discovery. It's more confident in climbing, grips better and less wobbly. Discovery struggles much more than the defender. There is no contest. The best contest would be defender Vs jeep wrangler I suppose.
Have you ever driven a Discovery that you get to your conclusion? You seem a little uninformed if you ask me as I own 2 Disco 1's and a Disco 3 and I never have to take a backseat to a Defender.
They're the same truck underneath. Same frame. Same suspension. Same driveline. The Defender actually has a worse breakover angle due to the longer wheelbase. The difference in this video is locking differentials and airing down vs open differentials/limit slip - and that's up to the owner to outfit, has nothing to do with the model. Discos are and can be incredibly capable.
