    Great, thanks a lot! Your solution works also when importing from a text file. The same wizard appears. Well done

    Thanks for sharing. I was wondering if you can show us how to convert the U.S. number to European format. Thank you!

      On the understanding that the numbers you want to change start in cell A1 and you don't mind converting the numbers to text then the following formula should work.
      =SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(TEXT(A1,"#,##0.00"),",",".",1),".",",",2)

    Is there a way to do this on multiple columns at once and overwrite the data?

      Hi I do have another tutorial that would help you: ua-cam.com/video/opDTKAkIY5k/v-deo.html The formula is rather long but it will at least allow you to drag to the right and solve your multiple column problem.
      =VALUE(SUBSTITUTE(LEFT(A1,LEN(A1)-3),".","",1) & SUBSTITUTE(RIGHT(A1,3),",",".",1))
      Hope it helps you

    Hi, thank you for the tutorial.
    My problem is that I bought a laptop and software in Europe but prefer to use the UK Format as that is what I've been doing all these years.
    How do I make my new excel default to such?
    I couldn't find that in the options.
    TIA.

    Your video is very clear and very well explained but, living in Spain, I need exactly the other way round in an already excel sheet with many columns. Could you please help me with that? Thank you so much

    I am curious why we don't using points after 3 numbers as most of Europe here in Czech Republic, we are using just empty space in large numbers and comma for decimal. But I know point is used in banks because if there is empty space, someone could write something into that and change that number. Same in post office, but there is mostly - symbol instead of point. If you want send something for money and you write price for example 5 000 Kč, post office worker will probably instert - symbols there so it will be 5-000-Kč or 5/000/Kč then so nobody can change that to 500000Kč. :-)

    @Computer Tutoring:
    Be carefull : in the french system, there is a slight difference. The thousand separator is a space (" ") but the decimal still the comma ",".
    US => 45,266.11
    European => 45.266,11
    French => 45 266,11
    (i'm a frenchman).

      Hi! I tried it with my file (currency is in eur to gbp) but nothing seems to be working. Even the summation also didnt work. Is it because of the installed version of excel? Mine is in German so even I try to use replace it is getting replaced but the calculation doesnt get summed up. 😔

      @@girlofephemeras4253 Hi sorry it didn't work it. The version shouldn't be the problem you could try flash fill. ua-cam.com/video/DspxFZHs9gw/v-deo.html. It's not the exact formula but hopefully it gives you the idea. Alternatively if you're looking for a formula you could try: ua-cam.com/video/opDTKAkIY5k/v-deo.html though this is a little more complicated when compared to Flash Fill but you'll have a fire and forget formula.

    Hi. This video helped me alot but I have a follow up question. After the conversion from European to American currency, how do I move the decimal placement? For example, it reads it as $20,088 instead of $200.88.

    • @computertutoring
      @computertutoring  2 роки тому

      20088 should be converted to 20,088.00 based on the above video maybe just check the decimals and comma delimiters are correct in the text to columns section of the tutorial
