This is so beautiful! The skirt flare to it is gorgeous. I feel like many people will ask you where you got it, and you can proudly say you made it!
I love the final result! You should add some loops (no idea what the technical term is) to hold the belt if you want to keep it open. You know those days when you leave the house and it's super rainy and then the suns comes and it gets hot and humid and you have to open the raincoat because it's boiling to keep it all closed. Maybe is the weather where I live, but I find myself using open coats quite a lot and I need all my belts to be secured in some way to the coat.
The extremely technical term "Belt Loops." 😊 I thought the same. The belt is SO pretty and it would be *awful* to lose it!
It may not sparkle in a downpour, but in my imagination it's one of those light rain days when the rain is just slowing down and the sun is starting to peep out between the clouds so you get that streaming patchy sunshine if that hit the raincoat it would look simply magical!!
my brain jumped to it secretly being a stephanie meyer vampire 😅
I didn't know I needed a princess raincoat, but you know what... it's on the to-sew list now
Love it! So excited for you!
Using a real hammer instead of a rubber mallet would reduce the bounce as well. ❤
I was going to say the same thing! :)
The sewing organization on that wall! I'd love to see a tour of how you organize your sewing supplies, fabric stash, patterns, etc.
Yes! I came here to say that!
After watching your tea vlog i wanted to come back and say you look amazing and your editing was on point ... all the best Lucy💝
This raincoat is AMAZING ! The color is very flattering ! Maybe for the hood, you can sew a loop an a button to close it around the collar
Either that, or two strings to tie a bow, that would be cute, too!
De regenjas is schitterend geworden, Lucy en je zal het de komende tijd zeker nodig hebben hier. Het heeft zeker de afgelopen periode, en nog steeds, flink geregend.
Groetjes Desiree
Love it! For the hole punches and snaps, you need to do it on a cement floor or get a marble block (so maybe a kitchen counter would work too). Wood surfaces are too "bouchy" and soft as you've found 😅 If you plan to do this often (setting snaps and grommets), a hand press with the correct size dies help a lot!
Also, unless the instructions said otherwise and I missed it, I'd recommend using a proper hammer rather than a rubber mallet, mallets are also bouncy.
i love how this coat turned out!! the color, the flare, and the way golden buttons compliment the pink! i think i may need to make one for myself... concerning the hood situation im afraid there is just no other option than to put a drawstring there and make peace with it looking a little silly. i have been pondering the same question myself everytime i make a coat and i still haven't found the solution.oh, also, little tip from my experience: in case u ever make another project with these kind of buttons, u should reinforce the spots where u put them with interlining. bc the one time i forgot to do that, the fabric around the holes came loose and they started to fall off after a few months. i think since u have two layers there, they are safer than mine were, but justr smth to remember for the future. anyways, this coat is awesome and i enjoyed watching the process so much!
Ah!! It turned out so dreamy! I absolutely love it, I’m all for the princess vibes. Love watching your videos 😊❤
I think this is my favorite thing you've made so far! It's the pink of perfection!!
What about a sort of 'flap' with snaps to attach it from a scrap piece to close the neck over when needed
For the belt I would suggest putting 2 of those same snap buttons on the belt and back of the coat so they can attach/detach. You won't have to worry about losing the belt when you take off the coat in a space like a coffe shop, and you still have the option to wear it without a belt if that's the style you want for the day
This turned out lovely! I hope you get lots of use and joy out of it!
wow, you are brave to start the button adventure right on the actual project! 😁 I always make the first one on scrap fabric (usually the same), so I don't end up messing up, like making the hole to big or something!
I'm mesmerized by this raincoat, you look fabulous in it! When you closed the hood with another imaginary button, you reminded me of Aschenbrödel in her ball costume. Maybe this would add the possibility to wear it even on stormy days when you would knot a cute white scarf around your kneck over the raincoat to close the little gap.
However, it was comforting and wonderful as always to watch. May God bless you. :)
Hahaha I made that exact cloak in a video a few years ago! One of my favourite movie costumes ever 😄
So beautiful! It resembles a coat I made in the early Seventies from a Vogue Designer pattern by Christian Dior. I loved that coat. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoyed mine.
Love the rain coat it’s super cute, you can probably add one button to the back of the center back coat and center of belt to attach them together so belt doesn’t get lost when untied. As for the hood I think if you were to either cut excess fabric from the top center seam that joins on top of head that might make it smaller without warping it.
WAY TO GO! YOU *DID* DO A GOOD JOB! BE PROUD!
It looks so beautiful!! I love it! You did such a great job on this 💖
Love the raincoat! Will you be doing any autumn folklore hairstyles or Christmas hairstyles?
The rain coat came out spectacularly! I love it and it looks great on you!! Here's to rain lol! ☂️⛈️
That coat is so adorable and flattering. You have inspired me to attempt one of my own. Go sparkles!
That coat looks awesome!! It’s making me want to make one!
Maybe a comb inside the hood could keep it up? I saw one in the hood of a costume in the stage production of The Phantom of the Opera, just wondering if maybe that would work?
It turned out absolutely gorgeous!
In awe! This turned out so beautiful you can feel very proud of yourself!
What a lovely coat
I LOVE IT!!! Would absolute love having a coat like that
Wow!! Turned out soooo well 🤩
Just perfect! So well done. You’ll turn heads! Enjoy your fabulous creation!
I love a raincoat like yours, but the ones that come close to yours are really expensive (and never exactly what I want), so you inspired me make my own raincoat. I have ordered a lovely dark blue rain coat fabric with 'kolibri's' (hummingbirds) on it! I also bought spring (lente) softshell fabric to line the jacket with. I want to make it detachable (with snappers?) So I can wear it as just the raincoat over a warmer winter coat, or on its own with the softshell lining in it when it's not that cold (for spring or summer rain showers)! Probably won't get to this until next year with all the projects I already have in the works or want to make. Do you (also commenters here) have that as well, you have so many plans and a few projects in the works and you just don't have enough time to do it all (eventhough you want to do it all)?
Yep, I have that. The same applies to all the books I want to read and movies I want to see, haha
It's so pretty!!! Now I need one in burgundy...
For making the holes for the snaps, there is a device called an awl that has a stabby point and flares to a wider (but short) rod and has a nice handle to it, so you dont have to worry about messing up your nail scissors or knotting needles
Gorgeous!! BRAVO on a professional job!
It’s so cute! So worth it~.
Oh my gosh that's so beautiful!
This reminds me of my favorite raincoat I used to own. I love it
So beautiful, I would def want one too 😍
You need an awl for those eyelet/ popper holes. A stiletto.what about weights for the hood? Dress designers sewed fishing line weights into the hems of skirts to stop them blowing up in the wind. Like a lentil with a groove on one side. Or maybe a decorative draw string with a weighty bead on each end?
It's sooo beautiful!
I can imagine this in olive as well, like walking through the forest on a damp rainy day...looking for berries maybe
Water proof wide scarf that wrap around the hood that way you can take it off and tie it when needed
Its so pretty and happy and just so nice. And completely unique!💕
Hello! I have a rainsisters coat and the hood is similarly massive. It has an elastic drawstring that only goes halfway up each side of the hood, so it basically scrunches up that gappy bit you pointed out
I appreciate you and thank you for making content.
I wish the camera could capture the sparkle because I don’t really see it, but the color is just sublime! It really turned out well, Lucy.
Have you ever seen the massive separate hoods (I think 18th C) with the boning and the string to hold it on in strong wind?
Maybe a couched wire to the front and top seam would be enough.
And maybe a ribbon attached to the hood and threaded through eyelets on the collar (so you don’t have to hold it but loose so it doesn’t gape or look strange
Yay!!!! I have been waiting to see this completed!! So exciting and I LOVE it!! And how perfect is it that it was raining during your video!? Or maybe you planned it that way? Either way....perfection and I love it!:)
It’s the Netherlands - it just rains all the time. 😊
I love the result😁 Its so pretty
Look at lots of pictures of other raincoat hood closures and see which type works best for! Nice coat!
Love that coat. The style of it is definitely my dream coat. Came out great!
It's soooo pretty ! 😍 It's really giving princess ✨
It‘s a beautiful coat, and i love the big hood, even though it‘s not the most practical. Maybe you can add a comb or a clip inside the hood so that it stays on your head? Or maybe add a detachable fur lining to the rim of the hood to weigh it down and fill in the gaps? Hope you find a good solution for it. Great job!
I love it!! Turned out so pretty 😍
Just so beautiful! Ah, I love it! :)
I used to have a coat with a hood that would also blow from my face, but I would just use a large scarf on the outside of the jacket (instead of the inside). Especially a large winter scarf would work great by keeping the hood on and tying it in front of my neck
Your coat is beautiful! You did a beautiful job. 🌷
amazing! it's so pretty, I love it. you did a great job!
It looks so pretty!
Gorgeous result!! I made a winter coat with this same pattern years ago out of purple eggplant wool and constantly get compliments when wearing it. Yes its still in great shape after several years and I still love this pattern! I also love that the hood is so big and allows space for when I wear a bun. I solved the hood issue by wearing a thick scarf over it that holds it closed, but I admit this would not work for a raincoat...
It turned out beautiful! ✨
Heyyy!!! Love the coat. POA, that's the wrong hammer 🔨 you need a solid one so the force doesn't bounce back on its rubbery material(is it a rubber hammer?) The sound was not metallic enough.
Beautiful 😍
It turned out amazing!!! I really want to make my own now haha
Hoi Lucy, je zou de knopen die je over hebt kunnen gebruiken om de jaszakken dicht te kunnen maken. Stel je doet er wel eens iets in, dan kun je de jaszakken afsluiten zodat het er niet uit kan vallen. 💗
It turned out amazing!!! Thank you for sharing the pattern - I bought one for myself!!🥰😃👍🏼
Beautiful!
Absolutely adore it! So so pretty!
Looks amazing!!! ❤❤❤
Love it.
Press button is cute - we say press stud or snap, but I‘m sure there are lots of words for them and I understood!
The coat is super pretty - is it easy to tell the right and wrong sides of this unusual fabric?
And look at how much arm movement you have!!! It's perfect!
Lovely ❤
You look amazing!!! I love this pattern and colour! Great job.
Love this pattern. I would like to make one for myself but I would have to line it in flannel.
So pretty! Is that the normal type of hammer to use for grommets and hole punching? Maybe the hammer was too rubbery? Idk
What about attaching a little flap/tag of fabric to attach a button on it for the hood closure
I absolutely love it! Really want to make one to ^____^
Maybe use a iron Hammer and not a rubber one. It's way to soft. And maybe use interfacing on the places you make holes so it doesn't strech to much.
Just adding my 2 cents as a jeweller on the hole punch situation. If you hammer with a rubber mallet most of the force will just be absorbed by the mallet. Usually, you need a metal hammer and depending on what you're doing you protect your work from scratches by putting a scrap piece of leather on top. Having said that, the way you ended up doing it with the knitting needles worked great so I don't know how helpful my comment will be.🤷♀️
So pretty!!! Well done❤
I think the main issue with the punch is the mallet is rubber.
If you’d used a steel head it should work with a couple sharp hits.
It also looks like you’re hitting so gently 😅
Sososo pretty! 😍
It’s beautiful! Congratulations! I dont see the sparkling though
I love it!!! Next time you could splurge on a viscose llining since you put soo much effort and love into the piece. That way you'll be l less sweaty, especially when cycling 😊
For the hood closure, I suppose you could try using a thick ribbon around the neck to hold it closed. Not sure how it would look, but maybe?
All of you UA-camrs complain about sounds, that you can hear, and you always tell us to not worry about it. As usual, I could not hear the rain in your video. I don’t know why things seem so much louder to you than they do to us. I have really enjoyed watching you get through all the steps of making this raincoat, and it looked very complicated. Great job.
Loepsie you resembles Pelin Karahan😄
I took the cowards way out and bought one. Only the second new jacket I have bought in my 53 years.
RE hood: not that this is applicable for this jacket now that it's beautifully made BUT your riding rain jacket hood problem could be solved by the same pattern perhaps - doesn't this come with an option that has a high collar [plus attachable-that-can-be-made-unattachable hood] ?
I wonder if you ciuld add poppers where the hood naturally sits on your shoulders, moght look weird with the hood down...
❤ from India assam
I don't think the problem is with the bouncy table. I think it's the rubber mallet. Try using a metal hammer.
Maybe it's a stupid idea, but maybe attach something on the inside towards the front of the hood that you can then attach to a headband or something to keep it in place while riding a bike? Idk 🤷 It would just be sad if that were the only thing keeping you from using it in on bike rides, and you'd need another rain coat for that.
May be a push button and drawstring together? I have seen similar designs on raincoats.
❤
What if you sew a hat comb into the hood
i actually have a coat like that, but in black. what's funny/tragic is that it's very obviously raincoat material, or so i thought until someone mistook it as fake leather!! it would be the WORST fake leather EVER haha
I need to have it at the sites or the real material light will put some thing there so I’m not full of your hat
A hammer would give you a better result with both hole punshing and snap insertion, a rubber mallet disperses the force to much for you to be able to be precise.
