Bulova Mil-Ships-W-2181 - An Alternative To The Mainstream Dive Watch?

- The Bulova Mil-Ships-W-2181 was released in 2021 and is based on a prototype from the 1950s that never made it to production.
Bulova released it for real in two variants; one that was limited to 1000 pieces and one unlimited model which is the model we highlight here (reference number 98A266). It's not easy to tell them apart, but one of the biggest differences is that this one has a Japanese Miyota movement while the more expensive limited model has a Swiss Sellita movement.
This Bulova watch has some unique tricks up its sleeve. It has a paper strip that functions as kind of a moisture indicator on the dial at 6 o'clock that changes color should the 200-meter water resistance fail. Something else that is also unique for a diving watch is that it is a 'push down to turn' diving bezel that you need to press down to be able to use it. A third unique thing is the narrow lugs and their width, which is 16 mm, which is significantly smaller than the 20-22 mm that is more common on diver's watches in this diameter size.

Great price there and that´s a nice set of watches! Bulova is an awesome historic brand with gorgeous designs.
The "push down to turn" bezel was at least the Submariner's method before the clicky uni-directional models. So like the 1680/16800 and earlier at least. They can be forcibly turned and many are worn out, but the actual method is to push them down.
