Finish a Ph.D (From the top 1000 Universities in the world. preferably top 50) 4. Learn Python or R AND YOU TOO CAN BECOME A DATA SCIENTIST IN 2018!!!
My undergraduate course is survey science specializing in market research, mass media research, using both quantitative and qualitative data. My antiquated tools were MS excel and statistical packages. I had 5 years experiencein markets research analysis before shifting to finance. Now what I have learned is obsolete because of all this computer and AI. I am over 50 and has retired for 10 years already. Can I still get a chance to upgrade into data science andbe realistically employable, inspite the 10 ur gap in my employment history and my older age, am over 50 already.???.. I had my MBA.
i am a civil engineer and i have over 5 years of experience in civil engineering domain. i have zero knowledge about IT and computer science. can apply for Ms in data science? can i be a data scientist?
I am 44 with no computer science background or any coding experience and I have decided to take the plunge into data science. I recently started using online sources to learn SQL and Python. I think as long as one has a sound mind, data science can be pursued well past our 40s.
That's just frustrating me, I have a dream to be a data scientist at 38 and actually I have started to study this field... So after what I have seen here... No course or book in the world will make it true! Until I get my PhD and try to work in US! Statistically!!!!!
I am studying 1st year Msc Data Science (5 years integrated course) in the top engineering college in Tamil Nadu, India... Am I in the correct career path? Still I am confused...
Hi Christodoulos, yes they need. If you talk of all the big sports events, lot of data gets generated and there is enormous scope of the analysis. Hence data science is in demand .
And how is this not to be a perfect example of free interpretation of statistical data. The video at 2:50 first suggests that the typical profile of data scientist is one who has 4.5 years of "work experience" and master's degree (or PhD). The video then implies that the data science field is pretty accessible as.. well if you hold master's and have 4.5 years of experience you have some chance. Wow so a master's degree in "David Beckham studies" (a real master's degree you can get in the UK) and 4.5 years of work as a shop assistant are likely to make you are a more suitable candidate than say an Undergraduate from top uni in Statistics or Computer Science, and all you need is to learn basic course in R or Python from 365 DataScience, right? Wrong! The video then contradicts itself (although not straight away but at 4.20) by saying- hey but master's really isn't a pre-requisite especially one in a relevant field, because you know Universities don't have many Data Science degrees and if you look at statistics most people hired in data science jobs are not data scientists but are in fact economists, mathematicians, actuaries, engineers etc. Well yes, they are.. because it is an interdisciplinary field with wide application to different sectors, where maths is the core skill which unites all of these fields. The video, however, twists this result to say that universities are struggling to prepare data scientists and in fact, firms would take anyone from any background, as long as the candidates have studied some programming in their spare time. While even the video proves the opposite suggesting that only 9% of people hired come from other sectors. That's also not to say they a philosophy major. Really annoying and dirty manipulation of facts by 365 DataScience just to convince people to pay for their courses and a big turn off for anyone with at least some background in statistics and data analysis. If I was 365 DataScience management I'd seriously consider reworking the video as it pretty much discredits the very basic idea behind what these courses are supposed to teach.
they start feeding peoples mind that to become a data scientist you need a degree for this and a masters for that lol! that's why many companies now a days require an applicants to have a degree

Can a Java developper become a data scientist ?? I had a mechanic master degree but decided to enter the IT field thanks to different course ( so learning from scratch) but ultimately i wanna do big data to be a data scientist.
I've seen some jobs that want people who are Java proficient versus python, so my answer is yes. Python and Java are different languages, but if you know one it's much easier to get use to another rather than learning either from scratch.
@@christianmoose I see. What's the difference between data scientist and data analyst?
Samieh M data analysis is a specific area in data science (which is more “global”)
Hey, Samieh! Check out this article: 365datascience.com/data-scientist-career-path/ as it could answer your question. :)
According to me,
Data Analyst - He/she will analyse the data and show the trends and the results.
Data scientist- They will analyse as well as provide you a proper guidance and help you to reach the conclusion.
Yes, data analysis is a branch of data science.
But data scientists does this on a much bigger scale.
@@gauravpandey6748 thank you.
Data science is like data Engineering + Analytics + knowledge learning (like insight about the future)
TLDR:
You too can become a Data Scientist in 2018!
All you need is 4 easy steps:
1. Finish a B.Sc. in an Exact Sciences field
2. Finish an M.Sc. in an Exact Sciences field
3. Finish a Ph.D
(From the top 1000 Universities in the world. preferably top 50)
4. Learn Python or R
AND YOU TOO CAN BECOME A DATA SCIENTIST IN 2018!!!
Bruh, this video sounds like it was narrated by an AI
This presentation was made for you by data scientists
"MS Excel is a Database"
Change My Mind..
Does the research for this video qualify as data science? They got data from LinkedIn and answered questions from that data. Or is it data analytics?
well it tells what the majority of the Data Scientists do.
1:48 I don't know if thats true
1001 data scientist professionals. I'm wondering about that one!!?
Thank you for this informative video!
i am a civil engineer and i have over 5 years of experience in civil engineering domain. i have zero knowledge about IT and computer science. can apply for Ms in data science? can i be a data scientist?
If it is a new field of study and you want to explore, go for it if you are young, less than 50 years of age.
I am finance student. nowadays data analyst getting nose in our field
LoRd VeNOM I was in marketing and nowadays they’re taking our jobs too... like WTF!?
Well can u guys suggest some reliable online courses for learning data science? :)
Hse
Well done
Sir, is electronics and calculus essential to data science? Thanks in advanced
"electronics"? Definitely no, but programming yes.
*Excellent explanation.!. I'm Sr. Data analyst in MNC. Which one is best suit tool for career. Python or Hadoop?*
What is your salary, just curious.
Hoping I can pivot into this with my english degree. Been learning python for around six months, fingers crossed!
how's the progress mate?
can a law student can be a Data Scientist?
Is it still a very high in demand and low supply job.
I am doing msc in big data analytics from central university of rajasthan (india) , how good it will be for me?
India's have infinite scope
I m qualified but overage at 47
Age is not an issue here as long as you have the capability.
well youre still alive. So I think it'll be fine :D
Well. Age is just a number
I am 44 with no computer science background or any coding experience and I have decided to take the plunge into data science. I recently started using online sources to learn SQL and Python. I think as long as one has a sound mind, data science can be pursued well past our 40s.
Can someone with a degree in print and packaging technology management become a data scientist?
If data science position at my company is any indication, yes. This dude is making it sound way more complicated than it is.
That's just frustrating me, I have a dream to be a data scientist at 38 and actually I have started to study this field... So after what I have seen here... No course or book in the world will make it true! Until I get my PhD and try to work in US! Statistically!!!!!
so interested, just learn there's a R language..
Phap Bui, R is simply adorable, just finished my first course on it 😎
I am studying 1st year Msc Data Science (5 years integrated course) in the top engineering college in Tamil Nadu, India... Am I in the correct career path? Still I am confused...
I feel like 1 year is too ambitious and not enough time to gain a master's degree worth of competence.
@@theamici I meant 1st year..not 1 year...
I am confused Between data science or supply chain management ,😶
yes
You got mathematics mispelled.
When you realise the fastest route for a male to finish their bachelor's leaves them at 25 years old due to conscription in your country...
Hello! Does the Sports Industry in Europe need data analysts and statisticians in the job environments?
If I was 365 DataScience management I'd seriously consider reworking the video as it pretty much discredits the very basic idea behind what these courses are supposed to teach.
they start feeding peoples mind that to become a data scientist you need a degree for this and a masters for that lol! that's why many companies now a days require an applicants to have a degree
i want to get into, one question is,do i start with R or Python?
I have a background in statistics
I've found a few websites that help, data camp is one I saw an ad for maybe a few years ago on YT. Idk if they are still viable but I learned on there.
Python is more easy to learn than R
Python is easier, it has larger support.
If you are a statistician, you may start with R and use Rstudio as IDE.
@@christianmoose
I see.
I had the intention to learn Python anyways, but i have to admit im a little lost with all those jobs term since i cant really put a big difference between what they're *actually* doing...
From what i saw in the net, the tech using Java for big data was hadoop, elasticShearch.
Nice Video.Very impressive Lecture..and Voice
