I feel like it ALMOST could've worked if it leaned in on "racist grandpa is telling this story" - more cuts away to him, more obvious stuff that's clearly him editorialising. Like I dunno, it's 2008, have some terrorist playing a Ninetendon't Games Boy instead of listening to some really important information his beloved patriotic grandfather is telling him. The terrorists are played by grandpa's actor and one of the kids listening. That's terrible I know but you get the point, grandpa needs to be the butt of the joke instead of this objectively correct storyteller. That though, would require conservatives to be able to make fun of themselves.
idk if I'd put South Park up on a pedestal, though I'll grant that they do _a lot_ better than average, especially for somewhat right-learning dudes. they can be pretty damn funny, and sometimes even surprisingly insightful. I find that when they try to add more explicit political messaging into their shows it sort of stumbles. PC principal being probably the most egregious recent example. he's not "offensive", he's just cringe and unfunny. good comedy, and probably even more so good satire, depends on being able to view the world from the perspective you're attempting to mock (no coincidence that most conservatives are so hopelessly bad at it). and the last while (jfc damn near a decade at this point) I just don't get the impression they're as curious about the world as they may have once been, and the comedy really suffers as a result in many episodes.
You probably didn't see the finale of that series then, as PC Principal was the hero. He's annoying but what he's doing is actually for the good. Apart from the main boys minus Cartman, essentially no one else is just looking for good
one moment is when they've made a special about divercity casting and characters being replaced with diverce versions of themselves, many conservatives made videos how it "destroyed" the left and then at the end cartman and a holleywood producer have a talk that goes like this producer: "I get 10 000 hate mailes every day for adding 1 POC character in a film. Ofc I would double down add more diverse characters after that" cartman: "oh well, I guess I'm sorry for sending all of these hate letters" producer: "did you really send 10 000 hate mails a day?" cartman: "well, it was more like 12-25 thousand but yeah." producer: "I guess it was really lazy of me to just raceswap the characters" cartman: "I guess it was lazy of me to sh1t on woke stuff all the time." kinda meh that they spellt it all out at the end, but either way I feel like it was needed and the special was ok [i only watched a review].
Looking at this film, it’s almost shocking how similar the “comedy” is to what we see today coming out of right wing circles. I was always told that “Conservative comedy is a decade behind.” But, I no longer think that is the case. I don’t think they’re “behind.” I think they just don’t have anything else.
Pretty much all Presidents are crooks. Except for Jimmy Carter. And I am NOT a Carter fan. But his is a genuinely good person. My dad (R.I.P.) once told me that Carter's biggest fault as President was that he was too honest. Oh--Calvin Coolidge was a good person, and a great President. He was the first President to desegregate the White House.

World Police making fun of celebrities for speaking out against the Iraq War rings so fucking hollow. Like, arent they two fucking celebrities that are making a movie and have a long running show where they make political commentary? Who are they to mock others for doing the same thing that they do? And it'd be one thing if the celebrities in question were saying dumb shit, but seemingly Trey Parker and Matt Stone didn't even have an issue with their message just that they deign to speak it all. It's the same shit they did with Al Gore and Man-Bear-Pig. Often liberal celebrities are trying to act as activists for good causes. I know there are many that are idiots, but in this case, we are talking about people that were trying to speak up against the Iraq War. People like the Dixie Chicks literally lost their career for speaking against it as did many political commentators. The unpopular position was to speak up against the Iraq War. Trey and Matt throw specific shit at Jeneanne Garofolo there, seemingly picturing her as the ring leader, but she was very politically active in that era and even had a political news show she ran with Sam Seder, who still runs a version of that show to this day. Sam Seder has even talked about how news shows only wanted smaller figures on to discuss the Iraq War and how they tried to make fun of her as some left wing looney actor and the such. She didn't want to be the advocate in that position, she knew she wasn't an expert on the middle east or something, but they literally weren't giving air time to people that were experts and she took any chance she could to speak out against the atrocities. At a certain point, you don't really need to be an expert to see that genocide and wanton war is wrong and to speak against it. There was largely a blackout for people that were against the war. It was Manufacturing Consent at its finest and yet despite the media acting that way, the Iraq War was still incredibly unpopular with the American populace. Trey Parker and Matt Stone are being incredibly reactionary with critiques like this and that's honestly a pretty big pattern that's followed throughout their careers. They have a sense of righteous indignation toward anyone that has genuine righteous indignation on a topic and often it ends up with them looking pretty shitty if not immediately, then in the future. They give big "why was MLK trying to hard with all these marches and shit?" vibes. Ironically, as much as they like to act above it all, they fall into the White Moderate that MLK warned about so long ago.
Not to mention spending the entire movie pointing out how fucked up and dumb the US military industrial complex is, but walking it back in the last big speech like "yeah, we suck, but like it's a good thing because there are evil foreign guys out there!" So they pretend to not care about one side or the other, but they sure do a lot of white knighting for Conservative talking points.
My favorite part is how they never cop to anything they said that was, in hindsight, incredibly stupid. They spent the first decade of that show insisting that climate change wasn't real. Then they made a video about how smug people who drive hybrids are and threw in some little line about how people should drive them because they're "good for the environment." Sure. That totally makes up for Manbearpig, guys. Good one.
@@haileybalmer9722 i think they did step back a bit on manbearpig which was essentially just critique of being alarmed about global warming, which didn't age super well the "problem" about team america is that trey & matt actually know how to make stuff funny, but that doesn't lend any credence to their unclear "everybody is wrong lol!" nihlistic shit, especially since they still take moral stances all the time through the show
On one hand, this could be handwaved away by Leslie Nielsen's character injecting his politics into a story he made up. On the other, look at the people involved in the movie.
someone pointing out the whole thing is told by an unreliable narrator in some funny way, like having grandpa be alive in the metastory and mysteriously get with all the women and kick ass the asses or something, would be both too deft and too funny for this movie and its intended audience. Even just a few more cutaways or content skips like peter falk does in princess bride would have helped...

about the tone of jokes at the expense of middle eastern people: it is bad enough that it's racist, but in terms of why it doesn't even get a guilty chuckle is because it's tired, too. i've seen it before, over and over and over again, starting twenty years ago. south park has run it into the ground. WKUK ran it into the ground. family guy ran it into the ground. it's soooo played to depict middle easterb people that way, so while it is mean it isn't pushing any boundaries. not even of decency, since american culture really has no decency left to play with. so it fails to be so much as offensive. conservatives seriously need new material
It's a wonder Kelsey Grammar was brought back to play Beast in the stinger for The Marvels, considering his views tend to clash with the message behind X-Men.
Is it wrong that the thing I hate the most about this film is they screwed up the one thing that the movie was based around? Like, they set it up as "using the Christmas carol theme and structure to tell an American story" but then turned around and fucked that up. Like he only gets approached by 3 ghosts (Trace Adkins is still alive so he really doesn't count), Washington shows up for one scene well into the "present" section of the structure, and even with all that it spits on the original message of "be kind to all" with "be kind to only those that are white and conservative."
I don't know what I'm more mad at, the rampant racism or them dragging Leslie Nielson into this turd sandwich. Also, doesn't most cultures have a small number of frequently used male names? Seems bold for a bunch of John's, Kevin's and Michael's (add a James and you literally have all of my uncles) to take aim at name originality... especially since we all know how much they appreciate it when the black community gets creative with THEIR names. I had 2 boys, picking a first and middle for both sucked. It was one of the little things i was looking forward to but boys names just didn't offer a lot of options, even when you ransack other cultures for one. 😅
25:13 i think they are trying to tie in to the fact that hopper was in a romero movie roughly 2 years earlier with all the zombies. Or maybe its just a coincidence.
This streams for free on Tubi but I don’t think even I’m that much of a glutton for punishment. That said, is Geoffrey Arend’s role in this movie more or less shitty then when he pretended to he developmentally disabled in The Ringer?
Leslie Nielson being in this movie is fucking insane, especially considering that he guessed starred on MASH, an anti-war show, in an episode that's about the corruption of powerful members of the U.S. military lol

The one thing I did actually enjoy, and was a valid point against the left was about the rich, entitled Hollywood celebrities just stuffing their faces while they talked about the poor people around the world. As a lefty myself, it could have been an indictment of capitalism, to enjoy, but they didn’t take it that far.
I feel like the whole movie was a big missed opportunity for that because that would have been valid satire (based in truth) but instead they spent their time getting choked up about American flags 🙄

Worth mentioning that "Kumbaya" is a song written by enslaved people. Its a Gullah Geechee song. I don't think having Hitler sing it is an intentionally mind bending-ly fucked up thing to do. I think its done out of ignorance, but its worth mentioning now.
I normally never comment but I just wanted to add that the terrorist training video was reused footage from another film. In 2008 they released "The Onion Movie" which was a movie full of sketch videos similar to the Onion News sketches online. The actors from the video are also characters in the movie as well. So you can add that to the list of poor choices
Coke Francis is right that this movie takes conservatives waaay too seriously to be funny. That's the main problem with Republican comedy (any joke that reinforces the stereotypes promoted by the stablishment is technically a conservative joke, but American conservatives don't tell a lot of those jokes nowadays, preffering to laserfocus on very cringe Left vs Right humor, hence my distintion)... Ultimately, movies like this or Ladyballers aren't funny because their makers don't want people to laugh at the things they're mocking, the want people to be angry and/or affraid; they want these "threats" to be _taken seriously_ by the viewers. Comedy is a double-edged weapon, conservatives like its power to punch down, too make someone look like a fool unworthy of serious consideration, but the downside of that is that nobody fears a fool, almost nobody gets angry for something unworthy of serious consideration, and the only thing more pathetic than a clown is a serious person trying to fight a clown
i may be giving the movie too much credit, but the lenni riefenstahl joke was kinda funny as a satire of how elitist film organizations often amorally celebrate technical achievements in the medium while ignoring the sometimes morally reprehensible contexts of those achievements. for example, the original afi top 100 broadcast had a segment on either the birth of a nation or the jazz singer (i don’t remember which) that straight up didn’t mention the egregious racism of the film. this gag’s inclusion in the movie seems to imply that such indifference towards the more shameful aspects of these films has led those within the film industry (the people who are most likely to be reverent towards film institutions) to experience moral decay, and since these people are in charge of making the media we consume every day, that moral decay has spread to the general american public. in a vacuum, not a bad joke. would’ve been better in a movie that didn’t blindly feed into the at-the-time mainstream narrative that all middle easterners are evil, america-hating terrorists. as for the shot of reifenstahl and hitler playing in the back yard, i don’t know what the joke was there.
I never thought I'd see Crowder in a content warning. I think more creators should add that whenever they make a video with him in it, his face gives me a heart attack and his voice makes me want to flexseal my ears closed
I agree with you about all of this except Airplane! has a really solid story line- the story of a couple that broke up because the weight of PTSD's impact on the relationship and how to navigate that.
I've never seen that Amy Schumer clip before. Holy shit, if I were in his shoes, I'd shrivel up and die of embarrassment. It's the way she says it so non-confrontationally too-- you get the impression that she doesn't even see it as an insult, just as a fact.
Kevin's brother Chris was broken hearted by the fat phobic punchline of the Chippendales sketch and he only did it because he was new to SNL and wanted to make them happy. The only reason that that sketch is remembered as a classic today is because Chris's performance was amazing.. not because of the "hilarious" punchline that Chris is too fat to be a dancer.... It's awful that Kevin would then do a movie where it constantly made fun of his weight.... also, the only good series of fat jokes written by a thin man is Weird Al's "Fat".
Thing is team America also had fat Michael Moore jokes. It’s just that wasn’t the only joke they had of him. They also made fun of his self engrandizing. One joke laid flat the other worked.
5:55 That is THE most popular name in the world. More than 150 million men and boys have it. Would it be racist if it was a US marine saying John and then 10 guys appears? It is less common than Muhammad. Maybe I see thing differently since I'm not in the US, and we are less than 5 million with a French ancestry (and falling), so it is kinda hard to see that as punching down for me.

That's terrible I know but you get the point, grandpa needs to be the butt of the joke instead of this objectively correct storyteller.
That though, would require conservatives to be able to make fun of themselves.
the writer and director of this movie actually wrote (or co-wrote) and directed airplane, top secret and naked gun - its perplexing!
idk if I'd put South Park up on a pedestal, though I'll grant that they do _a lot_ better than average, especially for somewhat right-learning dudes. they can be pretty damn funny, and sometimes even surprisingly insightful.
Apart from the main boys minus Cartman, essentially no one else is just looking for good
one moment is when they've made a special about divercity casting and characters being replaced with diverce versions of themselves, many conservatives made videos how it "destroyed" the left
and then at the end cartman and a holleywood producer have a talk that goes like this
producer: "I get 10 000 hate mailes every day for adding 1 POC character in a film. Ofc I would double down add more diverse characters after that"
cartman: "oh well, I guess I'm sorry for sending all of these hate letters"
producer: "did you really send 10 000 hate mails a day?"
cartman: "well, it was more like 12-25 thousand but yeah."
producer: "I guess it was really lazy of me to just raceswap the characters"
cartman: "I guess it was lazy of me to sh1t on woke stuff all the time."
kinda meh that they spellt it all out at the end, but either way I feel like it was needed and the special was ok [i only watched a review].
I am surprised that I am surprised that Kevin Sorbo was in this. Why wouldn’t Kevin Sorbo be in a movie like this?
Looking at this film, it’s almost shocking how similar the “comedy” is to what we see today coming out of right wing circles. I was always told that “Conservative comedy is a decade behind.” But, I no longer think that is the case.
I don’t think they’re “behind.” I think they just don’t have anything else.
This doesn't even work as a Christmas Carol parody. Fails on every level.
Indeed. Patton is supposed to be the ghost of the past but hes all over the place.
I’m currently reading the book in school and this is NOT in any way similar :P
Also, I just wanted to say that I love your "Arrest Bush" shirt! A lot of people have forgotten about how horrible he was.
Me: Which bush?
Also me: Oh yeah, both of them. also prescott. and probably jeb.
I feel like a lot of people have forgotten how horrible most US presidents have been.
@alexanderrestaino1921 I hate Bush, too, but after Trump, I'd gladly vote for Nixon.
THIS @@Mondomeyer
YOU AWAKENED MINE LONG LOST MEMORY OF WATCHING THYS SHIT!!!! I remember watching thys on the family tv 2 times, what's weird is that I live in Poland, so I have no idea why thys realy, REALY american film was shown in polish homes
the fact that it had that amount of reach is both horrifying and hilarious
Ok but my discovery of your channel has brought me so much joy/entertainment, love it
And bland white hottie is ALSO "eat fresh" Subway guy from Community! Oh how the mighty have fallen...
Well, if he was on Community the TV show, that came after this movie.
Omg wasn't he the original Ethan Crane in Passions?
I always thought that Chris Farley reminded me a lot of my uncles, but holy sh*t, off-brand Farley looks identitical to my worst uncle. He's the one that got black out drunk and hit my cousin (my cousin who wasn't even his own kid and was still a child). It is actually unsettling
Yes, matt and trey give me the vibes of "oh you care about stuff, fuckin dork"
Not to mention spending the entire movie pointing out how fucked up and dumb the US military industrial complex is, but walking it back in the last big speech like "yeah, we suck, but like it's a good thing because there are evil foreign guys out there!"
So they pretend to not care about one side or the other, but they sure do a lot of white knighting for Conservative talking points.
I guess I can now out into words why I don't like them😂
My favorite part is how they never cop to anything they said that was, in hindsight, incredibly stupid. They spent the first decade of that show insisting that climate change wasn't real. Then they made a video about how smug people who drive hybrids are and threw in some little line about how people should drive them because they're "good for the environment." Sure. That totally makes up for Manbearpig, guys. Good one.
@@haileybalmer9722 i think they did step back a bit on manbearpig which was essentially just critique of being alarmed about global warming, which didn't age super well
the "problem" about team america is that trey & matt actually know how to make stuff funny, but that doesn't lend any credence to their unclear "everybody is wrong lol!" nihlistic shit, especially since they still take moral stances all the time through the show
6:11 omg is that a Marvin the Paranoid Android figurine on the desk???! and edward scissorhands too??! slay
Kelsey Grammer as Patton??!!
Whenever I think of "Old Blood and Guts","Frasier Crane" doesn't come to mind!!😢😮😅😊
Nothing beats George C Scott’s portrayal, so well, he did it twice.
Pete Davidson saying "HeHeHuE, gOoD oNe!" at Ann Coulter is funnier than this movie.
How am I only just finding this channel!? You are awesome. Also, I'm pretty sure you understand liberals being willing to take the piss and laugh at themselves better than this movie does
7:24 The movie Four Lions is essentially a longform version of this joke, and it actually pulls it off really well, with a good mix of humor and pathos. It helps that the muslim characters are portrayed as fairly sympathetic and likable despite being bumbling terrorists.
Rubber dingy rapids bro
Yeah, I've not seen Four Lions for years, but I loved it at the time. That said, pretty much anything Chris Morris does is at least partly gold.
I just discovered your content a few days ago and am glad I did. first vid I saw was the Buddy Cole one. I appreciated it as a fan of the character and the Kids as a whole. I dig your whole vibe and personality.
Wait…Buddy Cole? The jazz musician?? That would amazing.
I’ve only heard podcasters talk about this movie until now. Why does it look HIGHER BUDGET than I was expecting. WHO GAVE THIS SCRIPT MONEY
Speaking of conservative propaganda films, have you ever seen the Lifetime movie "Cyber Seduction: His Secret Life"? Because I'd LOVE to see you review that film.
lmaoooo no but I’m definitely adding that to my list
Great to see that classic punk compilation behind you, really brings back some memories!
The "F in John F. Kennedy" joke sent me. I love your sense of humor.
Immediately subscribing because of your signed evil dead poster!! Absolute taste (I'm also biased because I love the evil dead franchise & have met Bruce campbell... you being a fan is just a bonus of your already amazing content lol)
I met Bruce too! he’s lovely ❤️
@@queencokefrancis He really is!! He called me dear and was just the sweetest
god i love the "hello fellow punks" conservative character
about the tone of jokes at the expense of middle eastern people:
it is bad enough that it's racist, but in terms of why it doesn't even get a guilty chuckle is because it's tired, too. i've seen it before, over and over and over again, starting twenty years ago. south park has run it into the ground.
Hail to Mr. Moore & "Matt Damon!!!" (and John Waters, choking a pink Flamingo in the background) ! Is that shirt from 2003 ?
Fun fact, one of the first shorts Trey Parker and Matt Stone did was produced by David Zucker and written and starring Dennis Prager.
7:27 I could swear that "Ahmed and Ahman" was a joke in _The Onion Movie_ ... or maybe its the same joke in both films 🤔
2:29 Ok my respect for Pete Davidson just went up.
Always gotta respect an Alternative Tentacles laptop sticker
Holy crap, "picture in his attic", I would have spit my drink if I had one!!
18:06 Kelsey Grammer?! No don’t do this Kelsey! I LIKE FRAISER!😭
This streams for free on Tubi but I don’t think even I’m that much of a glutton for punishment.
That said, is Geoffrey Arend’s role in this movie more or less shitty then when he pretended to he developmentally disabled in The Ringer?
he got married to Christina Hendricks in spite of both those roles but hey that's showbiz baby
My shirt would say arrest Cheney, but I get your point 👉🏾👉🏾👉🏾
I try not to make more than one comment on a video but “why does bill o’reilly look like a deflated blow up doll of bill maher” was weirdly accurate
28:05 that "okay" was perfect
Leslie Nielson being in this movie is fucking insane, especially considering that he guessed starred on MASH, an anti-war show, in an episode that's about the corruption of powerful members of the U.S. military lol
Definitely an addition to the dark times of the 00s, were the onslaught of bad Scary Movie Zucker style spoof movies ripoffs.., and wow talk about the fall of Zucker ..,
Also nice alternative tentacles sticker 🤘🏻
The one thing I did actually enjoy, and was a valid point against the left was about the rich, entitled Hollywood celebrities just stuffing their faces while they talked about the poor people around the world. As a lefty myself, it could have been an indictment of capitalism, to enjoy, but they didn’t take it that far.
I feel like the whole movie was a big missed opportunity for that because that would have been valid satire (based in truth) but instead they spent their time getting choked up about American flags 🙄
"As nessicary as Anne Frank's drum kit." Is the one of the funniest jokes ever.
Randomly stumbled into your content and I love it.
The producers is my favorite musical of all time, too. (followed by little shop of horrors)
I have "Let Them Eat Jellybeans" too! Fun surprise to see it in a podcast.
Nice video. One correction: David Zucker didn't direct Naked Gun 3. That was Peter Segal.
For as long as I owned this dvd, I never got past the half hour mark
ngl i live in a majority muslim country and the everyone being muhammed joke was kinda funny. its the most popular name in the world after all. the rest? cringey AF
i remember my aunt showed me this movie when i was a kid and I thought the lead actor was Jack Black for a long time, I also had no clue who Michael Moore was at all.
"Sad and Airplane do not belong in the same sentence that is fucked up to me" 😂
Who thought Bill Maher and Matt Stone and Trey Parker were liberal? Stone and Parker are like conservative libertarians
Is that a John Waters poster behind you? Love it! ❤
Worth mentioning that "Kumbaya" is a song written by enslaved people. Its a Gullah Geechee song. I don't think having Hitler sing it is an intentionally mind bending-ly fucked up thing to do. I think its done out of ignorance, but its worth mentioning now.
Not there being a Daily Ware ad in the middle of this?!!!
they’ve been wasting SOOO much money running ads on my videos lmao
@@queencokefrancis they JUST played another one right before I got the notification.
RUN!!! THEY ARE LISTENING!!!
Anna Franks drum kit bit got me.
I noticed your Evil Dead poster signed and I’m very jealous
i may be giving the movie too much credit, but the lenni riefenstahl joke was kinda funny as a satire of how elitist film organizations often amorally celebrate technical achievements in the medium while ignoring the sometimes morally reprehensible contexts of those achievements. for example, the original afi top 100 broadcast had a segment on either the birth of a nation or the jazz singer (i don’t remember which) that straight up didn’t mention the egregious racism of the film. this gag’s inclusion in the movie seems to imply that such indifference towards the more shameful aspects of these films has led those within the film industry (the people who are most likely to be reverent towards film institutions) to experience moral decay, and since these people are in charge of making the media we consume every day, that moral decay has spread to the general american public. in a vacuum, not a bad joke. would’ve been better in a movie that didn’t blindly feed into the at-the-time mainstream narrative that all middle easterners are evil, america-hating terrorists.
as for the shot of reifenstahl and hitler playing in the back yard, i don’t know what the joke was there.
that’s what the joke COULD have been, but it wasn’t because this movie was made by people with zero media literacy
I never thought I'd see Crowder in a content warning.
I think more creators should add that whenever they make a video with him in it, his face gives me a heart attack and his voice makes me want to flexseal my ears closed
its like this movie predicted the daily wire before it existed
I wonder if this "movie" was written and filmed by a conservative committee. It is all over the place with no messaging consistency.
I've seen a bunch of videos analysing conservative comedy, but I don't think any of them have made me as sad as this one. Leslie, Zucker, why :(
It's so sad to see one of the people who made 2 of my favorite comedies (Airplane and Naked Gun) be such an absolute idiot.
This guy made The Naked Gun and Airplane?
Damn now I’m sad as hell.
18:33 oh my god.... You cannot make this up 💀✋
12:15 Now THERE'S a good dark joke!
First time watching your channel, and I think I love you.
I agree with you about all of this except Airplane! has a really solid story line- the story of a couple that broke up because the weight of PTSD's impact on the relationship and how to navigate that.
A drag artist film analysis channel?! SUBSCRIBED!
"Frasier Crane" as "Old Blood and Guts"??!!
PUHLEASE!!😢😅😅😊
The fact that this was one of Leslie Nielsen’s final roles before passing away feels horrifically tragic.
I've never seen that Amy Schumer clip before. Holy shit, if I were in his shoes, I'd shrivel up and die of embarrassment. It's the way she says it so non-confrontationally too-- you get the impression that she doesn't even see it as an insult, just as a fact.
"Anyway, let's hear what Jon Voight has to say." Said no one sane, ever.
Ok, "Dennis Miller is so old he remembers when Dennis Miller was funny" was a killer joke. Kudos on that!
That Let Them Eat Jellybeans comp, tho!
