      @@jays.6843 Yeah, comedy has to be light, but theirs always seems to be trying to "prove a point" or "educate" the audience, there's always an idealistic gravity to even the stupidest things they say, like saying a slur and expecting everyone to clap. That's just not how comedy works, comedy has to be light, self-aware, playful, it has to go both ways, even if it's pushing an agenda it has to do so softly, through guile. Conservatives like these never ever make fun of themselves or their side, they're always in the right, and all they do is circle jerk about how their side is the best and how awesome it is to be an American. It's the antithesis of comedy, which is inherently disruptive.

      American conservatives aren't even conservative anymore, MAGA specifically calls to "go back to good old times", which is a reactionary position, not conservative. McCain was conservative. I've never really understood the "My wife/woman/marriage" jokes. They were crazy popular amongst comedians in the 80's when I was a kid and even then I was thinking "If you hate your wife/women/marriage so much why are you even married? Do you get no joy out of your marriage? How did you even manage to get married if you have so many issues with women?"

    • @carmenlynn5441
      @carmenlynn5441 3 місяці тому +8

      You gotta remember that marriage was viewed as something you dont back out of, because being divorced came with a negative connotation attatched to you and ypur character. That and the societal mindset that everyone should marry someone of the opposite gender and have kids, otherwise viewed as pathetic or unworthy. I think it ended around the time a group of people fought for the right to get married and won, basically saying that marriage is only worth it when theres love. People back then were just victims of societal expectations, and partner-hating jokes were borne from unconscious bitterness (or fully conscious in a lot of cases)

      The hackneyed "bitching about the wife" school of comedy goes back at least a century. Nothing wrong with any of those preferences as long as you don't make someone feel bad for being outside of them. And if you step outside of your preference, you may end up being pleasantly surprised, but that doesn't mean that you get to make someone into your own little experiment along the way either. As long as everyone is upfront and respectful, it's okay. all of that just to say your gf is probably more appreciative of all that than you could ever know and it's ridiculously thoughtful of you to help her out like that. might seem so little to most people but to folk with ocd having someone do things like that can make the difference between a day spent unable to leave the house and a day spent nicely.

Honestly I had gotten a little twitter brained and didn’t know what the answer was at the time I watched and someone called in and hit us with the “you don’t have to be attracted to/down to sleep with anyone in a given dating space” and I was like “oh yeah”. Sometimes I just get pulled back into orbit by the simplest statements lol. Plus I have yet to meet a trans person that’s not been like “just say you’re not down with the hardware and we can move on”. Literally just don’t be terfy or phobic about how you say it and all is well. Almost like trans people are people who understand preferences and deal breakers in finding potential partners LOL

    Roseanne has been diagnosed with MPD, back when it was MPD, now it is DID. I have a related disorder called OSDD 1B. Basically the reality of the situation is that as a young child, a person who has the ability to dissociate to a high degree suffers ongoing, repetative trauma to such a degree that the brain says, "we can't survive this, we gotta put the kid in a box to make them safe," and then once the kid is put safely away, the brain makes another person to drive the body around. The neat thing about brains is that once it learns a skill, it defaults to a skill. So new walls go up, because the problem that hurt the kid in the first place of course doesn't get solved because a new kid got made to deal with it. So you end up with 2 to infinity number of people all handling the brain as a group. That's what it's like living with this disorder, you've got a bunch of people who might or might not be able to communicate with each other, each taking turns with a single body as though they own the whole thing. It's one big argument all of the time. One of the roles that arises from these internal societies is the role of the Host. A host is the person who gets the most time with the body, usually because they're best as pretending that everything is normal, and there's nothing wrong with them. This disorder cannot be cured, by the way. Once a person is created, they're there for the rest of the brain's life. Sometimes roles switch around, usually due to big changes in the lives of the system (the term used for the collective of people in Dissociative disorders within the same body is "system"). My theory is that Roseanne had a system change that caused the host to switch to something more bigoted, hateful, and had more of a bite back mentality. Possibly a persecutor. Roseanne has admitted to their diagnosis and said that they'd been cured. They cannot be cured... the damage is a result of scarring rather than healing, essentially, but because we villainized and mistreat mental health... we create misunderstanding within our own communities. So my theory is that Roseanne's host was always the edgy but progressive person who championed change toward the better... until the public pressure forced a change. Rather than causing a split (new person created), the system probably defaulted to a more conservative and abusive person. Possibly a Persecutor (an alter whose job is to play devil's advocate, they tend to default towards pointing out insecurities, but they also mimic attacks from the worst of our pasts), since Roseanne had a direct antisemite abuse her physically and mentally as a child, it would make sense that one of the people her system created would also be an abusive antisemite. And when given the chance to make a play for host with the detachment and personal problems that comes with fame, that same person would have the explaination to say they were the best Host for the job... Next thing you know... Roseanne changes everything about herself. It takes a lot of steps of understanding the disorder, but once you do, it makes a lot of sense.

    I feel sad for Roxanne. A lot of the things she says nowadays seems to come from a place rooted in a deep sense of self-hatred. At some point in her life, between her peak in fame and her return in the mid 2010s, I think that something happened to her that really changed who she is fundementally. Maybe it was just that point in her life where the past came back to chip away at her, maybe she went through medication that altered her mental state, or maybe she really did just grow bitter.
    I don't know, but I look at her and I remember how I used to learn a lot of life lessons from her show. So did my parents. She raised a lot of open-hearted people, regardless of how she turned out in the end, and it's sad to see her alienate herself from the fans that really supported her just so she can 'fit in' with the hateful masses.

    I love the empathetic portion of the video. Hearing stuff like this helps me internalize how complicated Trump fanaticism can be, and especially how people in the family I’m about to marry into can support him (despite my fiancé and many of his cousins being mixed race).
    People don’t just feel afraid and targeted because because America’s past is full of nastiness caused by their ancestors and the spotlight is being partially pulled off of them and onto those who are living with the consequences of it all. They feel afraid because they’re told that it’s scary and will *continue* to victimize them. You’re exactly right when you say they’re all looking for validation in each other.
    A message to end an overly long comment: it’s okay to feel uncomfortable with the change you see around you. If a loved one being gay or trans makes you uncomfortable, that’s okay. Your feelings are valid, but they need to stay feelings. What isn’t okay is not inviting them to holidays, placing different rules on them in your house, or voting for those who restrict their basic rights. I work with many Mexican immigrants, and I get frustrated by the low literacy rate among many of the older workers. But, early on, I stopped and thought about how lax education requirements can be in parts of México, and how English is one of the hardest languages to learn (it truly sucks). I speak purely Spanish with them, and create forms and documents with simple designs and bilingual text. My empathy allows me to make my world bigger and richer, while making it easier for them to make it easier for me. Keep it inside, and just treat people respect and compassion. I would still perform CPR on a dying Trump, even though a nasty little voice in my head cheered when he was shot in the ear.

    Well, I think you were going for laughs, but you got gasps. From me and the Mrs. Holly crap, I was not expecting my comment on the screen, that was awesome!
    We love what you're doing with the subject of these videos and the aesthetic you're bringing as a host; your appearance to me was disarming, and after thinking about it, I realize it's quite a genius way of presenting satire and pointing out what no one is saying out loud, without the elite gunning for your head.
    We agree with what you're saying in the these last videos; today's comedy panorama seems to me that it's reached its final stage of moving out of the fringe (established by liberal, forward-thinking innovators) and into commoditization - that means that it's now safe for conservative folks with piles of cash to stop pretending they're conservative and innovate by flooding the zone with shit (well established fascist tactic to promote misinformation?).
    This seems to have several side effects; the target audience gets their views validated, the patsy on stage gets to feel validated too, and some money gets made out of this seemingly innocuous show of funny. The other effect is that other artists, comedians that do have something to say, will get drown out and harder to find; people that are truly special, that regular people won't be able to access worldwide. Recommendation algorithms will take care of that too...
    Keep up the good work! Excited to see the next video!
