  • To many the iconic Bell 47 helicopter will be forever remembered as the M.A.S.H chopper. Thanks to the 1970 film M.A.S.H and the later M.A.S.H television series (1972-1983), The Bell 47 helicopter legacy as the primary air ambulance of the Korean War is widely known today. The Bell 47 has seen wide spread by both military & civilian operators, since its first production in 1946. Today almost 75 years later many examples of this amazing helicopter are still flying.
    As a Kiwi modeler I’ve chosen to depict my model of the Bell 47 in the markings of the Royal New Zealand Air force. From late 1965 until mid-2011, the RNZAF operated the Bell 47 for close to 46 years. The type largely was used as the basic trainer for RNZAF Helicopter pilots. In 2008 one RNZAF Bell 47 (NZ8706) achieved a record of 10,000 logged flying hours.
    As for the kit by Italei, the tubular fuselage of this helicopter dose pose challenges in 1:72 scale. However I was lucky not to break this delicate model. For the decals, homemade Inkjet decals were made for this project. The Paint scheme depicts NZ3708 in its 1978- 1979 appearance. A small diorama was made for the kit.
    Hope you enjoyed this video

    The model in this video depicts a Royal New Zealand Air force from 1978. As a Kiwi it was a must do in the markings for an RNZAF Bell 47. The decals are homemade on Inkjet Decal Paper, since the kit came with decals for a British Army, US Army or Italian Air Force Bell 47. The diorama was made from an old photo frame, with Noch Static Grass applied to it.
    Hope you enjoy the video as much as I enjoyed making this video. Thanks for watching everyone and Happy Modelling fellow modelers.

    That Italeri bubble is beyond excellent as a casting. Shame the 48th scale Sioux is so rare nowadays too. o7

      Thank you it is always nice to see a comment from a fellow kiwi. Especially on one of my RNZAF subject videos. I am glad to hear that the Air Force Museum in Christchurch has a Bell 47 on display. Still need to go there of these days

    Thanks for this, had no idea they make decal sheets you can print yourself. The grass and gravel look fantastic... The heli tho.... good effort but only if you're far enough away :) have you thought about using an airbrush? Or is hand painting with a normal brush your happy place?

      I’m glad to hear that you have found this video useful for making DIY decals. They are a fun to make and I hope you will get a chance to try it yourself. As for paint brushing a model kit, I guess it’s my happy place. One of these days I might get an airbrush, but I’m happy with the paint brush for now.

    Cool build. There is nothing better than making a model your own with a custom paint job and decals. I have a small question unrelated to the model, what camera do you use for your filming? The video quality is fantastic.

      I agree with you totally on the satisfaction one gets with making decals for your models. I love the researching the paint schemes as well. In fact quite a few of my kits I have made do have home made inkjet decals. Feel free to check out my Build video of The Curtiss P-36A Hawk, which has custom USAAC decals.
      In regards to your question about my camera. I film with a Panasonic Full-HD HC-V110 Camcorder which is about 8 years old. For the still photographs I use a Fujifilm Finepix S2960 DSLR camera set to HD.
      BTW Kia Ora from NZ & thanks for watching

    Ok, sorry for this, but can you make the M*A*S*H* style medical helicopter with this kit? Or would you have to buy aftermarket parts?

    • @ShuttleFactoryScaleModels
      @ShuttleFactoryScaleModels  5 років тому

      You would have to by aftermarket parts for this kit. This kit depicts an attack version of the Bell 47. There are older large scale Revell & Academy kits that depict MASH Bell 47 on the market
