I am black and my dad was a trucker and I grew up on Jerry Clower! Trust me he was not a racist. He was simply one of the greatest funny men off all time.
I love ur story and agree. Grew up in Louisiana taking baths with my nanny's 2 kids that were black, in a huge metal outdoor basin. Mom died when I was eight. I'm 55 now. I loved that woman and she was my fill-in momma when I needed her. Classy lady that taught me so much.
I am a black man born in rural Georgia and Jeryy Clower is one of the best old time comedians ever. Man does not curse and tell s funny stories about how he grew up and what life in Mississippi was like. Its all jokes and good ones at that. people grow up and enjoy, laughter is the best medicine!
I'm a woman of color and grew up listening to Jerry Clower with my grandmother and great grandmother in Raleigh NC .. especially on the road while traveling out of state going to Kings Dominion or Six Flags of Georgia.. Awwww the good old days. Great memories.. I'm 51 now. ❤

Jerry was a great American. My entire family would travel all over the United States listening to this great American. But what they fail to realise is that Jerry was born and raised in a different time and this is why he has honest to goodness great stories and that is exactly what they are. I got to see Jerry several times. I could hear him over & over & I'd still laugh till I cried. I will never forget talking to him at breakfast one morning. He was just as common & real as he seemed. I told him how much I appreciated his telling stories without being vulgar. He thanked me & asked me a question. That's about all but I'll remember it always. There is no one to replace Jerry in my books!!

No unfortunately there will not because the people of today would plainly hate them out of a career if anyone dared to tell stories like his and that says more about what kind of people they then it says about anyone then the person they are talking about. The sad fact is he was raised in a different time when things were harder and you had work your ass off to get ahead and he was one of the lucky that was able to talk about his life and make a profit and one of few that used that to give back. Great loves for him and all he stood for and very sad we will not see another like him.❤💔
I love this story. It cracks me up everytime I hear it. I wish I had the chance to meet him or hear him live, but he will live on in recordings and stories

Does this ol' boy's heart good to see so many still enjoying this man's clean humor. Staple of my childhood in the 90s riding dirt roads and listening to Clower tapes.
one of the greatest me and my papa would listen to him on his truck trips when i was little. one of my favorite things was stopping by the truck stops because they had the best selection of jerry clower on cassete tapes

Love listening to Jerry, I can remember on our way to my grandparents my dad would have him on the radio-he would laugh so hard tears would run down his face. Hearing this one makes me smile and have such good memories and remember my dad.

Jerry IS the funniest comedian I have ever heard!!! The blessing is he does it without cursing. May the Lord Jesus always keep him. Thank you for posting this brother.
Had this one memorized as a kid....gonna do it again!!! Listened to brother Jerry a lot in those days. I'm 50 now. Life shure woulda been lackluster without the great Mr. Clower and Justin Wilson, who I'm sure borrowed and Cajunized a few of these tales. But that's ok too. Keep us all laughing. We NEED IT NOW JERRY!! Merry Christmas to all
I grew up listening to this with my grandpa in his vault company truck. We were putting coffins in the ground listening to Jerry clower every Saturday morning
Jerry once defined a comedian as a perswon who tells funny stories and a humorist as a person who tells stories funny. He certainly is a humorist - and one of the best.
wish i was old enough yrs ago to go see him when i was young boy listen to his tape my dad bring home from the truck stops ..now he is gone from us and ill never get to see him live :( what a great man and love all the story's telling then listen over and over never got old.. ....
I was blessed to have met Jerry in Liberty Mississippi in the General store on Broad street. He was so cheerful and just a pleasant man to be around. There were some older men there about his age all talking local farming and politics . I was a Log truck hauler going from Bogalusa Louisiana to St Francisville Louisiana and had to pass thru Liberty Mississippi a couple times a day. He just gave off a Pleasant Godly feeling being around him.
I have so much nostalgia about Jerry clower, Because when I was a kid I would listen to his jokes and laugh my head off, while wewould be on our road trips😂😂😂
I am a 50 yr old black man from Ky. Jerry Clower along with Jerry Reed, Ray Stevens and The whole HeeHaw gang kept me in stiches for most of my teen years. I have never heard a racist word from any of them. I don't know what they said in the privacy of their own kitchen but it was always funny stuff just like Richard Pryor minus cussin'.
Gee I am a 46 yr old American, and I would watch HeeHaw every Saturday on PBS with my Granddaddy and yes your right they were great and no they never said a racist word in public, great comedy!
Thanks to these recordings we can remember that generation (my parents') even though almost all have gone to be with the Lord. My daddy's family were sharecroppers, moved place to place in Sunflower County Mississippi in the twenties, thirties and forties and to hear them tell stories when I was a kid, that family was the luckiest family on earth, it seemed to me. of
I had the pleasure of meeting Jerry and attending one of Jerry Clowers shows. He was a Southern treasure of humor! I enjoyed listening to him on U tube.
Man I was in Pigeon Forge Tennessee for a youth football tournament. I stopped by a spot called Goats on the Roof. It was a souvenir shop. They play his stuff in the store all day. I love his stuff. Thought he preaching at 1st.
I had the privilege of seeing Jerry just months before he died. I had heard him all my life and was finally able to see him. It was amazing. None better.
When I was a kid, we used to cruise Lake Texoma in the summer with ole Jerry Clower on the 8 track in the boat. The adults were drinking beer and having a good time while us kids were just laughing our butts off. Good times.
I had the distinct privelage of seeing/hearing Mr. Clower speak at a Georgia Baptist State Convention one year when our choir from the GA. Baptist Hospital School of Nursing performed. He was wonderful. And clean humor! Something you aren't afraid for your children or grandchildren OR your Momma to listen to! Can't wait to meet him in Heaven on day!
I got to meet Jerry Clower in '81 or '82. I ran into him in a restaurant in Jackson, MS. He was the friendliest, most gracious celebrity I ever met. He was a Godly man, and a national treasure. I'm saddened that he's no longer with us.
I unexpectedly caught his act at a car show in south Texas back in about 1982. Next to the stage was a 1982 Corvette in a cinnamon metallic color the likes of which I've never seen since. It almost exactly matched the topcoat that Jerry was wearing that day. No way to ever forget it or the act!
The last time I saw Jerry was in 1971 at the old Orangeburg Mall in Orangeburg SC. He was wearing a banana yellow leisure suit and was so funny & loveable. I can hear my Dad laughing in heaven right now -sitting around listening to Jerry Clower. His favorite comedian.
Saw Jerry Clower at a farm show in Goldsboro, N.C. 25 years ago. He had on a baby blue tuxedo and white shoes. I'll never forget it, the funniest man what ever told a story....
Excellent story.... My father introduced me to Jerry Clower story's when I was in my early teens, I am now 47 and my dad passed away a few years ago. I still listen to Jerry Clower to this day. Very funny man. For those of you who see racism in his story's needs to grow up and seek professional help.
i was able to see jerry clower at the county fair back in 1991...he wore is red suit...i miss him terribly...he made me laugh so hard i would cry...one of my favorite times i have ever been to..
I too had a 69 cobrajet - 428cj torino - best car I've ever had. I have all of Jerry's tapes - and I ain't giving em back! I saw him live in Jonesboro, GA in the late eighties.
Hilarious. I haven't heard this story in years. My dad was a huge Jerry Clower fan. We used to listen to hours of Jerry Clower on road trips when I was a kid. Thanks for posting.
Every year on our thanksgiving week hunting trip grandpa would have me put this in around millersburg and all the way to the family land we would laugj and laugh. Him at the memories of being a kid with his brothers and sisters. And me at him and his energy. Never did the stories get old, either jerry or grandpa's. I miss those days, just makes all them words from the old timer's that always said enjoy these days, life gets rough and youll long for them. And to cherish your elderly family, they will be gone, and greatly missed.

I have heard all the coin stories! Just visiting remembering how good we had it back then.

Jerry Clower was in a league of his own...
Love Jerry he's good ole classic comedy. Reminds me of a relative I never had
Gee my step dad introduced me to him. The hound dog and okra. 😂
Hey, come on and join us anytime, I'm a hillbilly from North Georgia, you sound like good people. RAISED ON Hee Haw to sir, love it. Love Tom T. HALL.
I'm 55 and I totally agree brother. This man was the best.

I LOVED Jerry CLower. I'm so glad he shared such laughter and joy with so many of us.
I love how eloquently he speaks. He paints wonderful pictures in my mind!
Thanks to these recordings we can remember that generation (my parents')
even though almost all have gone to be with the Lord.
My daddy's family were sharecroppers, moved place to place in Sunflower County
Mississippi in the twenties, thirties and forties and to hear them tell stories when I
was a kid, that family was the luckiest family on earth, it seemed to me.
of
this has always been the best comedain, and i am glad to see that i can listen to him once more. even though he is gone
I had the pleasure of meeting Jerry and attending one of Jerry Clowers shows. He was a Southern treasure of humor! I enjoyed listening to him on U tube.

This is one of our old time favorites. Jon Webb and all my hunting buddies got a kick out of Jerry Flower's stories.
Jerry Clower could tell a story that would knock your socks off! Such enthusiasm has never been sence his day.
Used to listen to jerry at bedtime when I'd stay the night with my grandad as a kid always thought they sounded just alike
His speaking style (syntax) is almost like listening to a musical instrument being played with great skill.
Greatly missed…
Oh yes... fantastic delivery and charming southern accent!
Jerry Clower was one of the best. There will never be another like him. Funny and truly a good man.
When I was a kid, we used to cruise Lake Texoma in the summer with ole Jerry Clower on the 8 track in the boat. The adults were drinking beer and having a good time while us kids were just laughing our butts off. Good times.
He had a way of painting a good story you could see with your ears. Great story teller and comedian.
My Grandma turned me on to Jerry Clower when I was 7 or 8 years old. Growing up out in the country I could relate with his stories a lot.
If I'm lying, I'm dying! Priceless!
what a find,I haven't heard this in many years I heard his stories growing up.had a teriffic childhood .The Great Jerry Clower miss those days .
I got to meet Jerry Clower in '81 or '82. I ran into him in a restaurant in Jackson, MS. He was the friendliest, most gracious celebrity I ever met. He was a Godly man, and a national treasure. I'm saddened that he's no longer with us.
I am black and from the South. Jerry Clower is funny as hell!!!
Grew up listening to these great stories! Fabulous!!!
OMG!!! I grew up listening to this with my Mom and Sis!!! Love it, love it, love it!!!
I could listen to him tell good ol boy stories for hours!
Jerry preached at our church years ago. He was wearing his white suit and red boots. He was wonderful.

Grew up on Jerry Clower. He was a fine man and a great entertainer.
I too had a 69 cobrajet - 428cj torino - best car I've ever had. I have all of Jerry's tapes - and I ain't giving em back! I saw him live in Jonesboro, GA in the late eighties.
Best story teller of all time..
