Tiger 🐯 just liked this video 10 times!
They have always helped Rick . Not a single time where they haven't helped 👍🏻
At 2:25 the black box is off too, just to let you know Rick
mosdef helped my slice on my drive. Now when I miss hit a drive I either pull it or hook it. Also, I'm getting super confident w/ the 8 iron bump and run. thanks for the tips, Killah Ricky Shiels!
Good tips, but did you make the birdie?
I turn par 3’s into par 4’s, then I double bogey them after the adjustment
🤣🤣🤣
Hahahahaha snap
Wow I thought I had the secret strategy myself
Whaattt I thought no one uses my strategy
Damn bro. Quiet down. You don’t need to call me out like this
Know your distance. I hit my 7 iron anywhere from 30 yards to 170 consistently.
At least you are consistent
Facts
😂😂
When I make a 6 on a par 3 I tell myself I made "double par" because that doesn't sound as bad as "triple bogey" . Positive vibes only!
Lol, yeah but on a par 5 double is rough 😬
@@MrKydaman truuuueeee double par can be REALLY rough
@@connorsheehangolf7851 cause that’s where the drive goes
When I first started playing I was happy if I had a score on a hole that had a name an wasn't +5 or higher 😂
I’m using that now
“Do you draw it? Do you fade it? I’ll tell you after I hit it!
What is a draw? My golf balls know such thing
@@lobbyrobby a draw is when you hit a more hooking shot! Or maybe or goes to the right, Indo not exactly no, sorry.
@@whatislifepodcast8862 a draw is when it naturally curves out to the left slightly after a straight shot, a fade is when it naturally curves out to the right slightly after a straight shot
Bold of Rick to assume that I play at a course that cares enough to actually change the hole setup
True story Liam, my son worked at my local municipal golf course a few years ago and he was usually the green set up guy. I came home one day after a particularly brutal day on the greens. I asked “so were you just trying to be an assh*le on the greens today?!” He said nope “all I do is cut a new hole and change the color of the flag. (Front, middle, back) I don’t even think about it.” 🤦🏼♂️
UNDERRATED COMMENT LOL
Lmao
I don't know what that is like. Every course I play moves the flag around between 5-6 locations as well as the tee set up.
All holes are par 3. Some holes you get 1 or 2 strokes to determine where the par3 begins.
Interesting. Never thought about it like that
I agree with Ship Raider, that is an interesting way to look at it. It is true. Your strategy for par 4s and 5s should maybe be based on what shot you want to make into the green. Course management.
Absolutely, the key to good golf scores is to be able to consistently get the ball in the hole in 3 shots or less from 150 yards or so. That, and to avoid hitting your drive OB or into other hazards..
I just try and aim for the middle of the green and try and two putt , try to get fancy and that’s when you end up with a four or five 👍🏌️♀️⛳️
Final step: Chunk the club into the ground 4 inches behind the ball.
Why are you hiding in the bushes when I play golf?
Or strike it perfectly, into the sun, lose your vision, look for the green and hear your group thell you "It's OB left"
Hit a seven iron around 170 yards, oh I wish!
Rick Shiels is just getting better and better.
Right, I never tire of his vids.
A great set of reminders. While focused on par 3’s, the thought process is just as important for approach shots on par 4’s and 5’s.
Birdies on par 3’s are crucial in a tournament thanks rick will use this on the course.
Thanks Rick. More videos like these please. We are into winter and strategy lessons are great to watch since we are limited at how much we can practice.
Step 0: reliably hit the ball!
I was hoping for another ‘hitting from the trees’ honesty shot when you’d gone through all the points to make me feel better but you nailed it. I find I do better on par 3s if I shank it onto the adjacent fairway, it’s always a better approach
These are some of my favorite videos and it has helped my game so much! Appreciate it Rick!
Got to love the magic of editing. Hit it left and cut to the ball landing short and dead on line with the pin. 🤣🤣 Love the videos. Keep em coming.
yep...noticed that too. my guess...his actual tee shot is the ball on the left edge (2:40 mark - flyover). The ball near the pin (4:30 mark) looks like it was thrown in from the right side. LOL
I don't see many par 3's where "long" is good, so a rule of thumb for me (as a mdi-ish handicap) is play it short if anything. Miss short on a par 3 and you still have a solid chance. Miss long and you are usually bogey +.
Totally get that, but I get very pissed off when I leave it short, on any approach shot but especially in a par 3. So if anything I tend to go up a club to make sure - added benefit is I tend to strike it a bit more smoothly and increase my chances of knocking it on the green.
Love all the tips and coaching videos! Thanks Rick👍🏼
My attitude towards par 3 changed recently when I saw someone take a 10 on one, I realised we are all human we all have a bad day we can all learn to play differently in our thinking. Thanks for confirming that par 3s become harder as we progress (I was starting to think it was just me) and highlighting a great process Rick great content as ever more like this please 👍
Hi Rick! You mentioned in the video the importance of knowing your distances to reduce your score. Typically, i know my 7 iron distance and put 10yards + or - depending on the length of the shot. It’s works one club either way but doesn’t offer too much consistency throughout the bag. I’d love to see a video going through your set up on the range to find an accurate number with each club. In addition, explaining how many times a season you have to do this to reduce your score. Thanks for the great content! James
I really love those drone shots of the ball coming onto the green - please do more of those!
And maybe one day we'll see you hitting a drone with a golf ball :D
Just started working on Par 3 planning before lockdown 2. Was really starting to stop the 5s and 6s on these. Great tips as always
6 handicap but always struggled with par 3s. Great video Rick. Cant wait to give it a go next season!
Can you do a video with you hitting a putt putt/mini golf golf ball and see how far it goes or if it goes anywhere?
or even comparing the two styles of play?
Rick...Your videos are the BEST!! Excellent explanation, very engaging tone...
Great instructional video! Thanks Rick!
Funny, that's exactly what I did last Sunday. Doing that, I had my first hole in one. I was super excited
Great Video Rick! Quick and loaded with content!!
Great tips, Rick! I didn't start playing until I was 18. I'm 42 now. I wish I would have taken it up sooner. Managed to break 80 a few rounds. Thanks for the advice from the USA!
Thanks Rick! I always seem to bogey / double bogey par threes! Very helpful
"Hit your shot shape" as if I get to ever choose what that shape is before I hit it
Feels like playing russian roulette at times. Setting up for a baby draw and hitting a push fade. Gotta love it
I take care of that with my first drive... “so, that’s where they will go today”
My shot shape is apparently nowhere near the flag.
Every time I “picture a perfect golf shot” from myself I tend to shank a $4 ball into the woods
It is worse when the ball costs $6.50
Why are you playing such expensive balls as a novice golfer? I suggest playing something like a Bridgestone E6 or a Callaway super soft that is still a consistent good performer and costs half the price
Another great video Rick. Your lessons are helping me shave strokes a little at a time. Thanks
Just what I need. My club has 8 par threes. And some are long. Thanks Rick.
Brilliant video great information
Thanks Rick your vidios is great. Keep going!🏌♂️
Love the videos they help me out a bunch
Thanks Tom! Love the work.
Some great Par 3s at Wrexham, can play so many different clubs it’s baffling. A great backbone to a round if you play the 5 of them well. Usually have a few interesting putts even if you hit all of the greens in reg too! Great video as always 😁
Absolute awesome video!!! James Robinson is an absolute beast on the golf course!!!
This was actually super helpful
Par 3 courses help a lot. I have a few local to me and it’s helped me get better and it’s nice when you don’t have time for a full length course.
Had an awesome Birdie on a Par 3 a couple weeks ago. Didn't make Par on any other hole but that Birdie was the most fantastic feeling ever
So many factors that I never take into consideration normally....Thanks again Rick !!!!! GREAT VIDEO
This is a great video Rick!
Great vid rick will be giving this a try next week 😎
I love you Rick you made this video short enough to watch it during passing period
Great advice Rick. I had a unique thought regarding par 3s: Depending upon tee box conditions and the hole itself, I sometimes feel more comfortable and confident hitting off the deck than I do with a tee. Some tee boxes have some fluffy tuffs of grass and it allows me to slightly tee up the ball. I hit my blades high, so, it helps keep the ball down and I tend not to mishit it as much, when compared to teeing it up. I imagine this might effect the distance but I wanted to ask what you thought of this “strategy.”
Great video all things we should do each time but don’t will endeavour tomorrow to put into practice as long as weather does not close local Welsh course
Nice tips on the most difficult holes in golf courses. My average score of par 3 is certainly 4.2. My hcp is 8 so I should have a mode cut. Thanks so much. can not wait until the snow disappears and the grass is green again.
Love your videos. This one is very useful. Normally on par 3's I just call out..."put me down for 6" and then I par or birdie next 2 holes. Par 3's I allow to kill my scores
As always, very informative. Tha
Excellent advice
I can par three the tee box
DANG MY BEST WAS TRIPLE BOGEY
My favorite round is a par 3 at my local muni. Really helps to practice on the shorter shots.
I could listen to you all day ,love the accent,as always great videos
Spot on vlog! Took it on the golf course today and parred 3 out of 4 Par 3’s (bogied the 4th) Cheers Rick 🙏👍👊
nice tip with measuring your iron distances. gonna work on that before next summer. btw love the more bushier beard going on for winter
Thank you Rick!!
Love your videos
Par 3s are what I practice the most, by consistently playing both executive and 9-hole courses. A couple of 5’s or 6’s on these holes can totally kill an otherwise decent round.
Would love to see you do a series of videos in the states!
Thank you!
*Tiger 🐯 just watched this after his 10 debacle at the Masters #12 and subscribed to Rick and me*
Hey DDG. I see you looking for subscribers. Haha!
@@timhaigh2484 Haha! Rick's last video my comment got nearly 400 likes and resulted in a grand total of 0 subs!
great video and awesome editing!
Love you Rick❤️❤️❤️
Great tips Rick, confidence is key but difficult to achieve.
Rick, I've been using your channel to practice! even set up an iron striking station at home inside. Question, for someone who doesn't have a couch and is trying to progress to a competing level, what would you recommend on how to practice?
Rick, so right, the first par I ever got was on a par 3, the first time I ever played. I hit my tee shot right of the green, and had to pitch over a 15 foot tree...got within 2 feet of the hole and made the putt for par. Nowadays, I mainly just try to go for the center of the green, but do take all of the things you mentioned into account.
Thanks for the tip.
Love the drone angle!!
A banger as always Rick!
I've grown to enjoy a par 3 that is in between clubs for me. Makes me have to think about what I'm going to hit and how. Instead of just full on iron shot I've done a million times before 🤙
Par 3 tend to be the most difficult for me, needed this video 👌🏻
Absolutely class
Hit my first 3iron tee onto the green about 2 yards away from hole, second game ever in my life bloody stoked, your tips are definitely helping especially a brand new player like myself. Felt like a god damn pro. Although i wont be making another like that anytime soon.
Rick: Another video at home club. Made par on that hole yesterday so the video must be helpful.👍😁😁👍
Great video Rick
It is interesting how as you improve in golf, the longest holes become the best opportunities for pars and birdies, and the shortest holes are where we often lose the most strokes. You didn't mention it in the video, but I also think there's more "pressure" that you feel teeing off on a par 3. I think most players are more relaxed on a typical approach shot than they are teeing off on a par 3. The average golfer is used to not hitting the green in regulation a lot - but for some reason, we feel like we HAVE to on a par 3. For me, my state of mind when I'm teeing off on a par 3 is the biggest factor.
Dude your golf lessons and videos are the reason I even know how to hold a club life saver you are
Great advice Rick. I played last weekend and PAR 3 ate my lunch.. Thanks!!
Hey Rick I bought some golf balls from Cut golf. I would love to send them to you and let you try em out. Love your videos man, keep it up!
Cheers Rick, the main point is that they often the seem the easiest holes and when focussing on the game at large the par 3's are often a low priority in the golfing mind.. but going back to basics and realising that the simple things need full consideration to get that birdie rather than par, is often overlooked or dismissed by us amatuers. The shorter the hole, the more precise you need to be! (in my opinion).
I got my first birdie on par 3 hole 15 on the pga course and glen eagles. Will never forget it
Great video rick
What's with some of the black boxes being in random positions for the text?!
Saw them. First one was thinking he rushed it but then 2 more times. Is it a code? 2 4 2? What do I win lol
Thanks Rick
If you need help turning a par 3 into a 6, I’m your guy.
I feel this
Seriously
Lol we need to go for a round together and share the pain
I finally got par on a par 3, a year after already getting a couple pars and a birdie on a par 5 at my local course. All the stuff on the local par 5 were within like a month or two of each other when I was just really feeling that hole
Hell of a shot, Rick!!
Great vid
Watching and reading comments. My strategy for all holes and especially par 3's, "aim small miss small".
Love your swing!! 🏌🏻♂️⛳🍻
#SwingGoal
You’re absolutely correct it that the decision will be much faster as you play more. Most times, I find myself checking conditions as I approach the tee. One of the last things that I do is to shoot the flag with my rangefinder to choose my club.
Everytime i get on a par 3 for 1 the putt looks like its 200 yards
My first hole in one was on par 3, and I did got a Montblanc pen for it.
Rick you should test out the Ben Hogan UiHi utility iron. Want to buy, but unsure on performance. Love the work Rick!!!
Getting close to 1.40 million subscribers Rick 👍🏻
Hey Rick, great video - I have been loving all the recent content. FYI it should be ‘Par 3s’ without an apostrophe instead of Par 3’s
