Never did more than 3 at a time, but TKD sparring against multiple black belts was actually easier for me than single opponents. People tend to get in each other's way. Fencing principles helped a ton though. After about a dozen matches against opponents ranging from 1st through 4th degrees, several of whom regularly competed in sparring tournaments, not only was I never beaten, but was never even hit once. I was actually told to hold back. People make fighting groups way more complicated than it needs to be. Unless people are trained specifically to fight as a group, they actually lose efficacy when combined with other people. I'd also point out my instructor was a former coach/trainer for the US Olympic TKD team, so it wasn't like he was unfamiliar with sparring. At one point, he was also rated among the top 10 in the US as well. Of course, I completely ignored his advice about dealing with multiple opponents, since I was used to getting attacked by groups since I was bullied constantly from 1st through 4th grade, so I also had more experience than most.
