    This was a good recipe, and it worked well with Zote soap. I added the glycerin, and discovered it really does help it gel up. I purchased a 50 oz bottle of antibacterial soap at Walmart ($2.45), the Equate brand and also added 2 tbsps. The essential oils really make it smell nice. It does not suds up but I really do not care because it cleans so well. The water turns a really pretty whiteish, and I like that. I was not sure what the salsa was however I used what I had on hand. Good job, and those little legs dangling were so cute ❤

    Interesting recipe! I noticed you said you add vinegar to your diluted Castile soap version- just so you know, vinegar (acidic) neutralizes Castile soap (alkaline) rendering it less effective. I’ve heard some like to follow a Castile soap wash with a vinegar rinse. Then each one offers its own cleaning power in a separate step.

    I don't recommend the Fels-Naptha soap bar because of the dangerous and harmful ingredients. I recommend using Earthborn Elements Soap Flakes. Nothing artificial or dangerous. With the harmful ingredients in the Fels-Naptha you might as well use the dangerous Dawn or something store bought. The Fels-Naptha didn't use to have all these dangerous ingredients but when Purex bought them out, it's now chalked full are dangerous ingredients.... it's sad.

    Thank you for your video. I was doing research and I wasn't able to figure out whether essential oils are safe to ingest. Many websites warned against using them in a way that would be ingested, but then many other websites encourage putting them in dish soaps. Is it because the essential oils are diluted with water that they then become safe? what are your thoughts?

    • @jaytee3baxter

      Yes, it is commonly mistaken for sodium laureth sulfate, SLES. Both are derived from coconut oil, which is known in soapmaking for being the most highly effective oil for cleansing but can have a drying effect unless superfatted. Dr Bronners and Lisa Bronner's blog, Going Green, has detailed information available about Sal Suds and how it's made. They are one of the most ethical and transparent companies out there.

    I am wanting to give this a try. However I recently looked at the Sal Suds cleaner and it has potassium hydroxide in it. When looking it up, it can be hazardous. What are some of your thoughts on this please? I so want to try this but am confused.

    • @MichelleHotchkissArt
      @MichelleHotchkissArt 2 роки тому +4

      Potassium hydroxide is the catalyst that saponifies the oils into soap. It’s a type of lye. During the chemical reaction, the oils are chemically changed to create a totally different thing: soap. The potassium hydroxide totally and absolutely disappears. The chemistry is quite interesting. Every true soap is created with oil and lye, anything that doesn’t use this is actually a detergent and full of artificial chemicals.

    • @jaytee3baxter
      @jaytee3baxter Рік тому +1

      Potassium hydroxide is necessary to make liquid soaps, just as sodium hydroxide is necessary to make bar soaps. Once the saponification process is completed, there is no lye of either kind left in the product and it is safe to use.

    Seems simple and functional, but do you have anything you can make from scratch? No store-bought ingredients, just farm-yields/scraps+herbs? We need to get back to the VERY BASICS very soon. It seems a bit disingenuous/misleading to call something a "natural recipe" if you can't produce all of the natural ingredients that go into it.... I'll still admit this is ONE step in the right direction, but what if you can't buy that base soap bar?? Now you're down to water and animal fat...
