The more I think about it the more I hate this movie
Thats what I was saying on my way home from the theater with my friend as we talked about the movie and I realized by the time our 15 minute drive was up, I hated the movie.
After seeing the new trailer, I realize that this video probably forecasts a lot of issues we may have with the next one.
R.I.P. Star Wars. It's time was up anyways so hopefully they can just leave it at that.
@@NikeKidUnlimited star wars was a wake up call. It let me know that if hollywood gets its hands on it. Its just an avatar for someone elses beliefs and ideas.
@@SoullessAIMusic I would sooner compare the Star Wars situation to a cow: a tortured, mangled cow with udders so tender from all the milking it might just keel over and die any day now
@@NikeKidUnlimited funny i actually worked with animals in high school thats not how they milk them in ca.

Isnt that EXACTLY what Finn was doing before she stopped him? He was sacrificing himself to save the rebels...
Thepizzaman00 Not to meantion when she stopped him at the beginning of the film, when he wanted to save Rey
Thepizzaman00 true but I suppose it's like
U can do that...but I also can do that to stop you
And in the end, Luke still had to sacrifice himself to save the rebels. And earlier, Admiral Holdo had to sacrifice herself to save the rebels.
Thepizzaman00 Flying into that wasn't going to save anyone
The funny thing is, i think the explosion from Finn's speeder crashing into that giant laser would've obliterated the nearby First Order forces, actually saving the day, but no, we can't have actual logic and things making sense.
EA killed Snoke because he didn’t purchase enough loot boxes
The producers couldn't afford the dlc to conclude his story in the next game.
Oh look, there he is again.

Unless the term in that movie is in reference to the new order Rey will create to replace the Jedi, rather than the name of a family. The old Jedi order will now be called the Skywalker order. At least that is my prediction. Can't wait to find out though.

Don't worry. When they do the sequel prequel trilogy, Phasma's back story will be explored when she's a little girl and her dad was a Stormtrooper that died on the second Death Star.
I was actually getting emotional when Finn was about to sacrifice himself, i don't know what it was about it, but i had goosebumps all over me. Then Rose smashes him out of the way, and i'm like, well, that kind of ruined the moment.
And she kisses him, and I felt literally NOTHING for that kiss whatsoever.
Edit: I honestly forgot that I made this comment. Thnx for all the likes lol
Isaac the Worship Warrior this movie doesn’t honor the moment it builds things up and when you expect something epic to happen, it slaps you in the face and does something goofy to ruin it.
Rose could've easily killed both Finn AND herself with that maneuver, not to mention that they could still have been shot down by the first order.
And I didn't even know there was supposed to be a Finn rose romance until they kissed, there was no chemistry whatsoever. I hope they Finn ends up with either Rey or Poe, not rose
And then Laura Dern character does EXACTLY that and I felt nothing but dumb plot hole! 😅
Isaac the Worship Warrior I felt the same, the first half was just boring, but when it looked like Finn was about to sacrifice himself I thought it was bold move and really felt that that would save the movie. But no....
The music overtaking the other sound during that sequence made me genuinely feel emotional. I can't even begin to explain how annoyed I was when Rose came in and ruined the moment. Horrible writing.
"She did not care about his redemption until she saw him without a shirt" .. literally the most honest thing I've heard so far ! LOL
Honestly, that's fair
Kendra Gonzales
even though their last moment together was a kiss, i did not take Rey as romantically fueled in this movie.
that scene also happened to be the scene where Kylo revealed he didn't hate Han, and starts trying to sow the seeds of his ideals in her--"let your past die"
"I hope there isn't a romance between Rey and Kylo, I don't want to see that." Brace yourself...
I’d love to see you without a shirt. ❤️😍

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Supreme Leader Snoke the Vile? I thought not. It's not a story Disney would tell you. It's a fan legend. Snoke was the Supreme Leader of the First Order, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to see the very thoughts and connect the minds of people across galaxies... He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even force pull people through holograms. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful... the only thing he was afraid of was losing his apprentice, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him when he was distracted while interrogating and torturing a Jedi. It's ironic... he could use the force to influence minds from other galaxies, but not sense a lightsaber being manipulated right next to him.
Is it possible to learn this origin story?
Not from the Movies.
Haha briljant , well done!!
szalma94 he was akin to a marvel villain, powerful, sadistic . . . they made the decision to focus on kylo ren, not what would inevitably be a big baddie. They chose character over badassery, and I loved it.
Wayne Cox Yes but the other movies before ROTJ didn't hype the character up. Supreme leader snoke being Darth Plageius would have been a great way to link the first order trilogy back to the prequels.
LOL! Perfect!
Nathan Trujillo red skull, Loki, Thanos, the government (lol jk), winter soldier, the grandmaster, ego, nebula (well she's not boring), and Vultur are all good villains in my opinion.
It would have been SO much better if Admiral Ackbar was the one who turned the ship around and rammed it. And then one of the First order commanders could have said, "IT'S A TRAP" as the ship was turning toward them. That would have been so poetic and beautiful. But nope; it was just some purple haired woman we met an hour earlier.
Mac F Ackbar sacrificing himself would be cool. “IT’S A TRAP” would be cringey and cheesy af.
I think they are ashamed of certain characters. You see, Chewie never got a medal, and was ignored when Han passed away.
I would've preferred it if Leia turned the ship around and sacrificed herself for the rebellion. Would've been a poetic way to kill her off and have Laura Dern as the new rebel leader.
She looked like a hunger games character
Would of been better if it was Princess Leia
16:43 Yoda actually says something along the lines of "There is no knowledge within those books that Rey does not already possess" because he knows that Rey already stole them.
She stole them?
C G you see them in a drawer near the end of the movie. Till now I thought I was the only person that noticed it.
Luke is Rey's father’s brother’s nephew’s cousin’s former roommate.
Inphamous J So what does that make them?
Absolutely nothing which is what they are in the actual film :(

Sand > The Last Jedi
I meant spaceballs not the last jedi
My question is why didn’t we get a chewy arch? He lost his best friend of what? 40 years? Chewy is just as important as Han and deserves the same respect!
Near theEdge yup and imagine the lore building it would be if Rey stumbled across Chewie doing a wookie burial ritual on the planet. (even if there is no body, kinda like how some cultures do lit lanterns)
Please enlighten me on the vast and extensive character growth Chewbacca goes through in the original trilogy.
Someone said once, if you think about Chewie he has very old and lives a long time. So while Han was a dear friend, but he was closer to another pet to Chewie. Humans die quick to Chewie he gets over it quick.
I'd kinda believe you @bbattle26. Except that wasn't it mentioned that Chewie had a life-debt to Han? How does that conflict with Chewie? He owes his life to this person, and then that person dies on his watch, unable to protect him when he could have.
jirodyne Probably the same way Luke saw the charred corpses of his aunt and uncle then five minutes later was joking around.
Am I the only one who was curious about the Knights of Ren ?
Knight of Ren 66 same dude
No I am too, they'll be in 9. 8 had to focus on Luke, Rey, and Kylo.
I think they'll end up being the other students that Kylo left with.
Don't care about the Knights of Ren. Uneventful.
Knight of Ren 66 I've read that the Knights of Ren were the Preatorian Guards. I dunno if its a theory or official. But there were 8 Knights of Ren in TFA and 8 guards....hmm
When I saw Leia fly in theaters I literally said in my head “it’s Mary poppins y’all”
Carrie Poppins.
beautiful bliss yeah they did lol. I think a lot of people thought that when they saw it😂
Mark Hamill and Adam Driver carried the entire goddamn movie on their shoulders.
Manas Mitul Adams pecs carried it too 😍
KOB KOB LOL
Manas Mitul legit true
Yeah i agree. Rey and Finn weren't as good as they were in TFA.
Manas Mitul I think Ray was really good but had less screen time
Leia (the character) should've died right then and there when her cockpit was shot at. Seeing kylo hesitate and decide not to fire because he felt his mom's presence then having his pilots shoot at it instead would of made kylo feel more miserable and confused about being in the dark side. That would of been more interesting
J.R. Ewing They probably would've done it like that if Carrie had passed any sooner. Unfortunately she was written in as a larger part of the movie and became integral to what happens
Goldee i get it, but i felt that if she died in that scene it would of made the movie have more emotion and would make kylo more confused about his stance in the dark side thus making him turn back. There were just so many "gotcha!" moments in this movie that pissed me off. Like when kylo killed snoke i thought he decided to give up the dark side
Completely agree
Agreed, but it's "have", not "of".
Zeruss01 should've*...thanks...
When snoke rants how he can predict everything then gets straight up cut in two like a amateur
The emperor literally gained control of the galaxy with his understanding and manipulation of people, and he was too busy frying Luke to see Vader turning.
It is not strange that Snoke was so proud and preoccupied that he didn't see Kylo turning on him. This is still Star Wars.
Alex Virton Snoke isn't dead he did what Luke did too stop kylo ren conflicting between dark and light now we know kylo ren is all the way with the dark. Exactly what snoke wanted. SNOKES NOT DEAD
Uh... Snoke actually did predict it. This is why the scene worked.
"He will ignite the lightsaber and take down his TRUE enemy" - Kylo was playing his ass out! It was a clever mind game. Snoke never mentioned Rey because Kylo never thought of her. He thought of his "enemy". Which Snoke doesn't identify himself with.
You realize Sith (they are still Sith) kill their masters right? Snoke knew exactly what he was doing and saying. He wanted Kylo to kill him.
Snoke was his true enemy at that time. Not Rey.
Walter Hamlin lol sith don't follow a code to kill their masters. They just happen to do it because they want power. Snoke did not want kylo to kill him that's absurd. Why would he rebuild the empire and conquer just so he can have his apprentice kill him and take everything he built lol. Being dead defeats the whole purpose of being sith you need to be alive in order to have power.
“Good luck on the third one, Abrams.”

NickName I genuinely liked rise of skywalker, it’s a lot like endgame and I loved endgame
Alex Shaw So Disney are copying and pasting there movies now
@@alexandertwol I personally still haven't seen it. I'm just basing off Jeremy's spoiler free review of the movie how funny that comment is in hindsight. I may Iove it idk but I'm glad you did.
Alex Shaw I liked it as well. I mean, there were plenty of parts that annoyed me (a certain scene involving a knife made me straight-up groan). It also didn’t feel like it was the goal the writers were working towards.
But Rey actually got some training (if mostly implied). They took advantage of the Force capabilities introduced in TLJ to engaging and fun effect. And Ben Solo I thought had an interesting arc.
I can definitely understand people disliking this movie (I certainly wouldn’t call it my favorite). But for how TFA and TLJ clashed in terms of progressing the story, I think I was expecting much worse, and so was pleasantly surprised.
@@ursaminor9780 I agree with you that there were plenty of things that were annoying/confusing, but I left the theater feeling overall satisfied. My biggest problem with the entire sequel trilogy is the very apparent lack of direction throughout all three movies. It's really hard to tell a cohesive story with three different authors, three different vision, and three different ideas for how it should work out.
Having said that, the best review I've read about the sequel trilogy is that its not 7, 8, 9; its 7, 7.5, and 8 & 9 are one movie
This might be the most fair review I’ve seen of TLJ so far, and I’m in the same boat. There were many things I found wrong with it, but I still ended up enjoying it.
ditto!
Then I look at it back. Force Awakens was fun. Stuff was StarWarry. People go, did stuff. In Last Jedi, except island scenes, all other stuff was JUST DRAGGING. So it was so out of place. Well and last fight on salt planet picked it back quite good. So everything on rebel ship or on that casino planet was shit!
Sounds like Justice League .. at least how I felt about it :)
Completely agree.
I walked out of the theater in a rage. Still raging 5 days later. Also, Jeremy didn't address Leia being suggested to be Bisexual with her hand holding session with Holdo, and this makes sense because Disney kept pushing their "Shes the first lesbian character in SW!" shtick. How they destroyed Luke's character and de-masculized him was a travesty.
Yes there were good parts, but a scene here and there, which got fucked in the ass by the story decisions that basically took you entirely out of the situation. Worst Star Wars movie ever, worse than the Holiday special. Fuck this trash.
I loved how Snoke called out the stupidity of Kylo’s mask
Yet the other knights of ten wore maskss and He wanted Kylo to be another Darth Vader . stupid writting
Ya See, JJ Abrams thought the mask looked cool. Then Rian Johnson though it looked stupid. Now JJ Abrams is going to come back and make it cool again. There is no over arching head in these Star Wars movies, and it is showing.
Noah Rodrigues
I liked that too.
Force Awakens shows how much Kylo deeply admires Darth Vader, wants to be like him and how he fears he is not as strong as Vader.
The whole mask thing is just him trying to imitate Vader in some way. I feel that the mask symbolises his fanboyish love for Darth Vader.
I did not like this when I saw Force Awakens. I thought he was just trying to be Vader and failing miserably at it. A discount Vader. A fanboy playing dress up. I would much rather have had a villain who did his own thing and does not try to be like the previous big baddie.
And I love it when Snoke calls him out on it!
Basically tells him “You’re not Vader, your never gonna be Vader, STOP TRYING TO BE VADER! You are just a kid dressing up like his hero. Take that mask off you look ridiculous!”
And he does!
He finally decides to be his own villain and not try to imitate grandad anymore!
If JJ Abrams decides to bring the mask back in some way I’m gonna be pissed! Let Kylo become his own villain and not live in the shadow of Darth Vader anymore.
MsAbixxx i really loved that mask though T.T such a cool mask with that voice modifyer and ugh it makes me cream muh pants man. Now i wanna watch the force awakens just to see that mask again!
I loved how they wrote in the bit about Snoke being pissed about how Kylo shouldn't have lost Rey, which I can agree we all know, shouldn't have happened.
If the movie was just luke, rey, and kylo rens scenes... I think it would have been much better. Those were the movies strongest points.
Schultheis Studios I agree, every time it cut away from those scenes I was just taken out of the movie, waiting for them to come back.
Kylo Ren: Asshole tried to kill me, Imma waste his school. 😂That kind of dialog would have made the movie bearable.
When they mentioned casino planet, I thought for sure Lando would show up. But no :(
YAB0YDAN As soon as she was talking about a scoundrel who was handsome and loved to gamble, I immediately thought of Lando. I think it was a missed opportunity.
Thats what i thought too
YAB0YDAN Dammit Rian you had one job
YAB0YDAN do they not want him back because he’s rusty as an actor or something? Carrie and Mark seemed to pull it off. Why couldn’t Billy Dee?
Wait... good point. Where is he?
I haven't watched the whole video yet, so he might've touched on this.
But, in the beginning rose calls finn a coward for fleeing, and says that her sister died bravely for the resistance.
And then when Finn was sacrificing himself to save the resistance, she stopped him.
Wtf?!
Nehemiah Snyder because she's spent less than 24 hours with him yet completely loves him. She had to save the person she "loves" even though it fucked up everyone in the resistance.
Yeah, that declaration of "love" was painful to behold.
Nehemiah Snyder Her sister sacrificing herself really did nothing but destroy one ship. Half the resistance fleet was destroyed in the process. Finn sacrificing himself would have ultimately been a waste too and Rose understood that, because of her sister, and saved Finn.
Nehemiah Snyder Oh you didn't hear? Rose is a stupid fucking character and who ever wrote her should not be allowed to write for her ever again. A true Jar Jar moment.
It's called having an arc.
The only interesting characteristic of Rose... Is her sister.
+SpyengoEen why would it have been a problem for them to be a lesbian couple? i think it would be awesome for star wars to introduce a same sex couple
Her sister who was barley in the movie?
@joe smith Dude it’s not about them being lesbian it’s the fact they were freaking sisters
The kamikaze run was great, but it opens the plot hole that hyperspace engines could be put into missiles and then Nuke any space ship ever.
Yup that's the lazy solution to the situation they brought themselves in
It kinda ruined all the lore, from what I know is hyperspace travel is like going into a different dimension and travelling along it to your destination, like going from a rural road to a highway to get to your destination
Brion Silke “ Without precise calculations we could fly right through a star or bounce too close to a supernova and that'd end your trip real quick, wouldn't it?” - Han Solo in Episode IV
@@itnotmeitu3896 I mean going forward I'm gonna be asking myself "why not do a lightspeed kamikaze?" and looking back I'm just asking "why didn't they do this before?" It really wrecked it, and it just comes to show they don't care about continuity
@@shinylr8091 also I think he meant when they come out of hyperspace not during
I don't think it was a 'romance' between Finn and Rose. Finn obviously didn't reciprocate Rose's feelings and that's why he was stunned and didn't act on the kiss.
PixelJD they tried to set up a romance though and I don’t think it worked at all. To top it off at the end Rey looking at Finn like what’s up with those two just made me cringe
Yeah the whole teenage relationship drama was sooooo horrible. They are starting a what now, a love square? If they didn't intend to start a romance plot, why put a kiss there at all?

ASEC Mimosa The amount of sexual tension between Rey and Kylo was so fucking strong, that it literally made me shift in my seat multiple times out of being extremely uncomfortable.
Man this whole rey/kylo thing was utter crap. I cheered when she shut that door in his face.
Holdo and rose completely ruined this movie for me tbh
I didn't mind rose, she was alright imo, Holdo on the other hand was hella infuriating. I assumed she'd turn out to be a snakey villain from the way she was acting for most of the film, but she dies as a hero?? and turned out to be right?? pretty lame character right there lol.
I agree.. I could stomach Rose.. but, from basically the 1st moment Holdo opened her mouth.. I was REPULSED, to the point where I had to remind myself "don't HATE on Laura..it's not her fault !!"

The porgs were included because there was a ton of puffins on the island that they were filming at that they couldn’t shoo away, so they just turned the puffins into porgs. A great decision in my opinion!
DarkVioletCloud and the best part too is that the porgs didn’t affect the plot unlike gungans and Ewoks which led to people hating them. Porgs however are just background wildlife that are there to add some padding to the fictional ecosystem, as well as merchandise of course.
@@Darksaviour not everything has to forward the plot because if porgs did it would be a plot device bird!

If marketing hadn`t made such a big deal about porgs, I`d agree.
Porgs were in the movie clearly for merchandise. They could have easily just remove them digitaly. I'm not buying the puffin story and I'm definetaly not buying porg toys.
This movie just opened a very serious story flaw....Light speed weapons.
Why not create a bunch of drone ships and use them as "light speed missiles". The concept is so devastating. Imagine a whole fleet of these drone ships pointing at you. How can anyone stop this???
This light speed scene is bullshit.
Stop nitpicking, she probably thought of it on the spot
That was Starkiller Base. They beans blasted through light speed to reach faraway systems. That was “new” technology.
Mark Conrad the whole movie i was wondering why people didnt have light speed suicide bombers or even remote control light speeders, its not even hard to think of.
Had the same thought. One large rebel ship on a suicide mission could have seriously damaged the Death Star. Better than getting wiped out by the Imperial Fleet in A New Hope. Han even points out the danger of going to hyperspace without plotting a obstacle free course so they must know the potential for damage.

Sargeant Reyna 😂
5/10 from Darth Vader - too much sand on the beach scene.
Sargeant Reyna I’m sorry I’m pretty stupid what does that last word mean
it means you have not watched the phantom menace
I need to put this out there, because I’m tired of this misconception. Midichlorians aren’t the Force. They’re a life-sustaining bacteria that are attracted to Force sensitivity. A person’s Midichlorian count is an EFFECT of how powerful they are with the Force, not the cause of it. The more in tune you are with the Force, the more they’re attracted to you. Midichlorians simply explain why some people are Force sensitive and some aren’t, and why some people are more in tune with the Force than others; they’re not the Force itself
Phasma was only made to sell shiny toys.
Soulr they are all made to sell shiny toys
Soulr just like that little bird creature
No shit. The whole movie franchise is made to sell stuff. Why would you make a movie without the intent of selling items.
Some intern at Disney must've accidentally purchased an bauxite mine 3 years ago or something.
everything in star wars was made to sell toys.
"Kylo Ren is bad and he's either gonna turn in the end, or he's gonna get killed. And I'm not invested in either one."
Wellllllllllll..... To avoid spoilers to people... Well.
well, you could say the same about every villain ever.
Imagine having Gwendoline Christie for 2 whole movies and just completely wasting her talent and fighting skills.
Britta got to see her pretty blue eye though
What fighting skills? GoT has horrible fight choreography - save for a few of the earlier characters.
Shut up feminist phasma makes my sand-witches
Man, i was watching some interviews prior to watching and she seems so genuinely invested in her character. Needless to say, i was disappointed
Well, unfortunately we don't need to imagine it.
Too much forced humor, sloppy script, casino scene was a HUGE waste of time , im sure im forgetting a lot but this was just a mess for the most part
Mike Vig forced humor with only five jokes, sloppy script with almost everything makong sence and the casino part taking too much when only Was 11 minutes
erick martinez lol only 11 minutes? Do you not realize how stupid that scene was, it slowed down the movie too much
Bruh, the Rose/Finn subplot took at least 30 mins of the movie, the "your mom" joke was awfully out of place for a war scenario, Finn walking with the water suit looks like a doofus, Rey accidentally cut the rock that almost dropped on the fish nuns wasn't least bit funny, it would be manslaughter if the rock felt on them instead. The only good joke was Luke tickling Rey's hand.
The script completely threw away all kind of consistency that can tie to the TFA, making up stupid shit and called it "expanded on the force knowledge" with no aforementioned in the previous films or materials, the whole "capitalism is evil" message that has nothing to do with the main story, and now BB8 can fix literally everything by banging his head onto it.
so what did you like about the movie?
The point of the casino scene was to find a hacker to disarm the hyperspace tracker to escape.
Here's how I see it. I liked it, but half the arcs in the movie were pointless. Poe starts a mutiny and it fails. Pointless. Finn and Rose go to a stupid casino planet to hunt this guy down and then they don't hunt him down. Pointless. Then they go to disable the hyperspace tracker thing and they don't even disable it. Pointless. Then for half the movie, Rey is on the island trying to convince Luke to come back and then she leaves without him coming back. Pointless.
Remember what Yoda told Luke? Failure is the best teacher, while yes they failed, and it might seem “pointless”, it gives you the message that they can learn from their mistakes and help recover the resistance from the first order :-)
Rosemary Juarez but no one learns from any of their mistakes in this movie... so that makes no sense
Thats what I said why do the heroes always have to win there was no hero shield to rptoect the main characters when ever they go into a bad situation
Tomato Ned they probably will in episode IX, if not then that's just sad
Just because something fails doesnt mean its pointless to the movie. In fact, the theme of the movie is failure, so these arcs of characters failing are central to the movie
Why is everyone ignoring his amazing Yoda impression?!?
Your problems with the movie are pretty much identical to mine. The casino planet, Snoke being a waste, Luke impulsively trying to kill Ben in his sleep, forced humor, Rose and Finn. But I also agree it’s a very entertaining movie and I’m glad they’re trying new things in the franchise
Agreed, people are overreacting. This movie brought more to the table than the TFA and i can appreciate that.
Andrew Gold
All those things prove the movie is bad.
Those issues shouldn’t even exist in these movies. Maybe 1-2 issues to pick out. Not every single scene and character with major plot holes. Not every single part. That’s just a crap and poorly written movie.
Well if you can lightspeed wipe out ships, why not use XWing remote then fly into snokes ship?
Instant death to them all.
They really don’t think this shit through.
CRAB JAB Everything you just said.. was wrong.
God
Nah little guy. It wasn’t.
Proof is in the pudding. Every single Male in the new movies is a weak coward who is afraid of everything. Every female is a general or leader. Especially the one who becomes a Jedi overnight and don’t get single scratch on herself.
I liked Rose and Finn on the casino planet. I just think it was wasted potential. They could have done a lot with another colorful world like that. Instead it was just two people stumbling around, going to jail, running away while the droid did all the work in the background. Throughout the entire movie we never got to see Rose or Finn shine with their personal strengths. That kind of sucked.
Agreed, Rose should have been the hacker.
RuudDevil Took a second to think about this and yeah you're right.
Rose being the hacker should have happened in the rewrite to take 20 minutes out of the film, but they just wanted the casino planet and horse racing in the movie even though it does not fit.
They needed another planet so they could sell toys and stuff
I would’ve taken it one step ahead of that!
I think that in addition to being the hacker, she should’ve been a first order defector just as Finn was. That would’ve not only given the film more focus, but it also would’ve made the chemistry between the two more believable as they both come from the same background. Such a wasted opportunity!
and that would make alot more sense.
Why did admiral Holloway or Leia keep the plan secret which to the crew looked like suicide causing the mutiny which could have led to the plan being ruined. It just made no sense it was putting the plan at danger.
Jaden Desveaux Probably because they thought there may have been a spy aboard. They didn't know how the First Order tracked them through Hyper space. Just a thought.
Stonewind DeCool in her perspective, it kinda makes sense. This guy who just killed our entire bombing fleet in a risky attack wants to put the fate of the resistance on a very risky mission, of course you don't want to show them that, because they'll mutiny, which is exactly what they did, and once they mutiny it's too late to explain the plan because it looks like an excuse.
Cam F I completely agree that it made sense what she did. I don't understand why anyone would think otherwise
Cam F yeah I can settle for this explanation. Makes much more sense after thinking about it.
Death Skips combining my response with someone e else’s post on Reddit: it happened after he had part of the plan. He was missing the whole, “old rebel planet” part that made it not suicide
When Poe learned of Holdo's idea, he was instantly behind it. Holdo really did communicate poorly. In fact, she chose not to. Just pulled rank and gave him every reason to suspect she has a divisive agenda. When you look back at other scenes of the Rebels at pivotal points, Leia, Ackbar, or somebody else would stand in front of as many people as possible and detail the current plan of action. What does Holdo do? shoo away all but her entourage and tell anybody who wants details to fuck off. Bad movie directing and editing makes it even seem at one point that she took it even further. Everybody on the "transport vessels" -- really serving as life boats or escape pods -- is clearly in on the plan. It's like she wanted everybody to know about except Poe. But that's pretty contradictory to the fact that Poe had several people with him willing to join his mutiny. They didn't know either. Where is their "oh I see" moment? No matter the case, the fact is that in the event that something got through the ship's shields or something happened to their fuel economy, the rebels would have to get to the escape vessels ASAP -- having people unaware of the plans makes executing that escape clumsy, confused, and slow. when you go from transparency to secrecy simply because you're the leader now, you're inviting mutiny and sewing discord. Holdo was not a very good leader. I'm feminist and I didn't like Holdo at all. Why does she even act like this? Because writer/director Rian Johnson kept making decisions wherein he looked at a large criticism of The Force Awakens and prequels... then instead of just dialing those elements back, he decides to just completely run too far the other direction
Poe makes seemingly good points about fuel and unprotected transport ships that w and his main plan is to keep a plan from holdo that will allow them to escape, and then fill her in later. Holdo has a plan that will allow them to escape, and then fill in everyone else later. One person just happens to be right. Now the theme from earlier is not really about the theme thaT leia brings up (dead heroes, no leaders) but is about a new theme - sometimes, some people know more than you, and don’t be a hotshot. I don’t think that this particular flaw was ever a flaw of poe’s though. Pretty sure he accepted that a master code breaker, some person that worked behind the pipes, and a former storm trooper could pull off a code break heist with technology he never heard of - conceding to authorities that may know more than him was never really a poroblkem foir him, even with the plan that is supposed to frame him as a glory seeker. Does holdo and leia represent the only leaders or authority to talk down to him from a position of more knowledge than he has?
Rose being the hacker and her and Fin going over to the dreadnought instead of the casino would have made things SO much better!
They could cause trouble for the ship by messing things up on the inside and Fasma and crew could have chased them around giving her more stuff to do too!
@BK Beatty True!

Holy crap. Your Yoda impression is freaking spot on!!!
By now I've heard Jeremy do at least 20 impressions of various actors/characters and literally all of them have been spot the-fuck on and I think he should just become a part time impressionist or hell, even a voice actor.
Chugada Cheese Gaming ii
Chugada Cheese Gaming that Roger Rabbit one tho 😂😂😂
Jeremy's a frikkin movie star.
The problem with using other force ghosts is that you can't use either of the original actors. It'd have to be Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor. And there's no telling what that reaction would be.
I reckon, if they really tried hard, they could get Hayden Christensen to work. Ewen McGregor would be harder cos he was never the force ghost.
demetrius ray they could always pull a tarkin with them
Ewan McGregor was great as obi wan, probably the best thing about prequels, and most people I see seem to think so.
I was hoping they brought them back as force ghost . Luke talking to his dad or kylo talking to his grandfather would have been special for me
demetrius ray I wouldn’t mind either of them coming back to be honest
I agree with a lot of your problems. My problem with the movie is it doesn't pay off what The Force Awakens sets up. It's like if Rian started his own trilogy and ignored The Force Awakens. I'm fine with a movie surprising me but those twists need to make sense to The Star Wars universe as a whole. I'm okay with killing off Snoke but it just feels premature at this point in time. We still don't know why he was considered so powerful, why Kylo followed him and like you Jeremy I'm afraid we're going to get all that information in a book.
Exactly. As a standalone movie experience, I'm not inclined to call it terrible since there were things about it that I can point to and say that they were entertaining. But I do definitely feel like the movie is a wasted opportunity in so many ways, and definitely still a disappointment because of it.
I ignored TFA lol
bc I HATED that one. So for me this was a great refreshing change.
hopefully episode 9 explains some things
Simon James Andy Serkis will be in ep. 9...
Simon James I completely agree I just saw it and although I liked it I was sort of disappointed that all the stuff I wanted to happen (Luke possibly being Rey’s father or finding out more of Rey’s past ) never happened and the stuff I didn’t want to happen happened (Luke dying smoke dying cause I wanted to learn who he was
Edit: haha just saw the part where Jeremy was talking about that too I guess someone agrees
Poor Jeremy, you can see him trying his hardest to not give this movie a bad review.
Yeah, well you probably can, but not everyone has your rose tinted glasses.
Jonathan Henly How could you give this movie a good review? You would have to explain your reasoning for liking every scene you bring up
Yes, and that's what I don't understand! WHY do so many people feel OBLIGATED to give this movie a good review? If people judged this movie by the same standard they judged the prequels, they'd be cussing over this movie.
@@gnc623 You're missing one point. Giving it a straightforward openly bad (honest) review when unleash the SJW hordes. Few mainstream reviewers wanted to deal with that when it first came out. Also of the consensus eneded up being favorable to The Last Jedi it would be endless drama for Jeremy. He walked the line on these reviews but if you read into what he's saying it's clear he didn't love it
He doesn't want to give a bad review but he dosent want to give it an extremely good one either. Both sides are really crazy
Put some respect on Admiral Ackbar’s name !
in the movie they were like “ Oh by the way Admiral Ackbar is dead” That’s it !😭😂
That pissed me off
At least he died the way he lived, in a trap.
RIP my nigga Ackbar.
They'd never let Admiral Ackbar do the Kamikaze run or put anything respectful on his name because that'd literally be "Allahu Akbarrrrrrrrrrr! [kaboom]" and it's politically incorrect.
Besides him helping take down the Death Star in return of the Jedi. Did he honestly do anything besides the “it’s a trap.” line?
I just logged in to say: Thank you Jeremy Jahns. You are without a doubt the most honest reviewer in business. Excellent points. Keep being Awesometacular.
If this was a regular sci-fi movie, it would have flopped at the box office, and everyone would have already forgotten about it.
That would honestly be a better situation than the endless "WHY THE LAST JEDI SUCKS" or "WHY THE LAST JEDI WAS GOOD" videos and posts
The film would be pretty decent as a standalone, but it ruins the SW franchise
Joshua Tyler Just a shit move, my opinion
You have failed my critic test. The reason its hated is because the fans hate it. If it wasn't Star Wars it would have cashed in. That's pretty objective.
To be honest, I'm not so sure: one thing the fan base's ever-warming appraisals of Solo, Rogue One and the prequels is telling me is that Star Wars movies seem to have a lot to prove right out of the gate, and 0 fan goodwill, but after the heat dies down they tend to get vindicated a little bit.
The Last Jedi has a lot of great things in it. Like most people, I'm not a fan of the direction they chose to take the story, but it's far from the worst sci-fi story we've gotten in the last ten years. And, like every SW movie, the soundtrack, CGI, and locations are on point (I really like the salt planet concept, and even the casino planet could've been cool if the story surrounding it wasn't so bad).
I think as generic sci-fi it would have been more critically successful. Box office-wise, it's impossible to say. Obviously it wouldn't have sold as widely without the SW name, but also no studio would ever dump this kind of money into a non-SW movie. Without all the post-production (and especially marketing) the budget of this movie would go down quite a bit.
"It was puppet Yoda, baby" 16:25
Holy shit, you predicted it.
Disney: write that down! write that down!
It was also drunk yoda?!? for no reason.
RIP Admiral Ackbar.

IT'S A TRAP
0/10 Admiral would not miss the trap
i was the only person in theater screaming IT'S A TRAP the moment they exited light speed
Thanks for your condolences, one trap I didn't see coming
I always called him captain fishface
biggest waste of Gwendoline Christie ever.
I'm glad they killed off Phasma. She was a stupidly overhyped character.
Michael Warunek I'm not saying anything about GOT but she's a good actress and they just wasted her by making her stand around and do nothing.
Soviet Scooty You are totally right. All this promised awesomeness and marketing, and zero payoff. Haven't seen TLJ, but she did nothing in TFA and to hear they totally wasted her character in the new movie as well is a damn shame. I quite like her.
One thing I'd like to point out - Jeremy Jahns was one of the first to introduce to me the fact that many people were disappointed by The Empire Strikes Back when it first came out. It took time for people to come to understand everything that happened and recognize it as not only possibly the best movie in the franchise, but one of the greatest films of all time.
I can't help but wonder if the same thing will happen to The Last Jedi. Everyone seems confused and lost, but maybe the passage of time and the finality of Episode IX will help us find our ways again.
Only time will tell, of course, but this is something I will consider and ponder over for years to come.
More likely the opposite will happen here, as there’s critical acclaim but then as more people think about the plot holes and wasted storylines, it falters.
gameragodzilla
Critics were pleased, yes, but many fans have expressed elements they didn't like extensively, now including Jeremy. The Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic user scores (56% and 5.0 last I checked) support a comparatively more negative view on the fans' side vs the critics. I would be sad to hear the opinions continue to become worse over the years, and I hope this movie does follow the ESB trend of fans gaining a new appreciation after many years and at least one more movie.
Joshua Holke Thats what I thought when I watched it and even told my friend who didnt like it as much. I hope thats true but I guess only time will tell.
Just Jeremy not using his Star Wars “cape”.... an image speaks more than a 1000 words. 👌🏼😢👍🏼
While having him die in the kamikaze attack have been a better sendoff for someone like Ackbar, I don't think Disney would want memes like Allahu Ackbar sprouting all over the net.
YunYunHakusho lmao
Brill
No more "It's a trap", it pisses me off to no end.
Lmao! Point
Never thought of that XD
I love how autopilot just suddenly doesn't exist in star wars
Bethan Charles
Dont even need autopilot.
In space you are going forward. An object in motion remains in motion unless a force is applied.
I was thinking this exact same thing. And yeah, like Bethan Charles has mentioned, you wouldn't really even need autopilot. If the ship is already moving in a certain velocity, it would just keep moving in that same velocity unless it was acted on by an outside force.
Bethan Charles
If we're going to talk science then really just think what would theoretically really happen of something moving at light speed hit anything. A bigger boom!
Sparky Mularkey You don't need auto pilot? Wouldn't you have to steer around planets, stars, and avoid gravitational pulls?
And they didn't install shields on the dreadnought
The theme of this movie is failure. Yoda even points it out. "Failure is the greatest teacher." Every character in this film failed to do what they set out to do. Luke fails to stay hidden from everyone and stay out of the fight. Leia and Holdo fail to get all of the resistance out of it safely. Kylo fails at turning Rey to his side and stopping the resistance from escaping. Rey fails at turning Kylo to her side and trying to get Luke back to the resistance. Finn and Rose fail at recruiting the actual codebreaker, fail at disabling the tracker, AND fail at stopping the battering ram. Poe fails at stalling the cruiser. Snoke fails at using Kylo to kill Rey. Hux fails at...everything. Phasma fails at stopping Finn. Point is, this movie feels like a let-down because there aren't really any feel-good moments around a character succeeding at something. The only thing that felt good was Luke vs. Kylo because it resulted in the remaining resistance members escaping. Also, I'm pretty sure Luke died because he spent SO MUCH energy to astral project himself to another planet and sustain it for that long.
I agree with you. I think there was one other "win" of sorts. Rey said they needed a legend and Luke gave it to them when all the AT-AT fire didn't kill him. That is why the kids were reenacting the event at the very end before he had to sweep.
Yoda and Luke dialogue was grand.
Yes the movie is a Failure too.
it stuck to its theme so much that even the movie fails.
I think Luke should have asked Rey “where did you get this?” And then gave it back to her, throwing it was unnecessary.
It wasn't, if you watched the movie, you'd understand why
@@ninjanibba4259 no, he threw it for the sake of a joke that wasn't funny. Traaash
@@bulletproofman323 it wasn't a joke, it didn't feel funny, the reason he did it cuz he felt shame of it and reminders
No mate that’s not the case, it was made just for shocking value, for a small laugh and to send a message from the beginning of the movie, throw your expectations out of the window…. Is more than clear that when JJ record that last scene at the end of the previos film the last thing that was passing thru his mind was that look was going to throw that light saber….. I mean from a characters point of view doesn’t even make sense apart from just shocking value …. There is no fucking way look was going to see that light saber again after that fight with his father …… to the point they still can explain how the hell the got it in the first place and you are going to say that he is not going to be at list a bit curios to ask how the hell you got this or found this???? Naahh men is just sometimes we try to justify things that don’t make sense because we love a bad film but that doesn’t take away from the fact that nothing of this made sense and that’s the problem when you make a trilogy where there was no guide lines and background story and goals before you started and every film maker that is coming to the picture is just doing what ever he feels like.
The Rose and Finn kiss took me completely out of the movie like... I feel like it would have given more impact had she just said the line and then passed out but the kiss was out of nowhere and so awkward. They've known each other for maybe a day? Like, what???
Miranda Agreed. Everyone in the theater literally groaned at that scene, especially with the Rebels' last line of defense blowing up in the background. It would have been a lot better if Rose had pushed Finn out of the way and stopped the cannon herself, sacrificing herself in the process. She would have gone out like her sister did.
Finn kinda sees it the same way actually. I thought his awkwardness was kinda intentional.
I can't believe they tried to hype us up for roses character before the movie. Saying her acting was amazing. Lying sob's!
The kiss scene would have made more sense if she had died afterwards... but nope.
Yeah totally. We needed a Ray+Fin love story.
Poor Ackbar
We salute you, Ackbar, for being mistreated by Rian Johnson who knew nothing about the character and shamelessly murdered you off-screen like a cannon fodder.
Ryan Tran ☹️
Ryan Tran what is there to know about ackbar going off the movies?
The Nerd Dojo What is there to know about Holdo in the TLJ, hmm?
As to your question, beside the canonical Clone Wars with Ackbar playing quite an important role in one of the story arc, which I doubt anyone who's into Star wars wouldn't want to watch it, Ackbar has made appearance in three movies, including TLJ. And how many movie did Holdo appear in? Oh, only one and nobody likes her, what a shame.....
Also, Ackbar was listed in the Top 20 Star Wars characters in Star Wars Insider magazine and his famous meme's "It's a Trap" has become almost synonymous with Star Wars that it always comes to people's mind when talk about the most memorable quote in Star Wars.
For a character with the level of popularity as big as Yoda and Darth Vader, it's unforgivable how TLJ treated Ackbar with such disrespect and replaced him for a forgettable General Genderstudies who was intentionally made to be hated by the audience, which completely rendered her sacrifice as emotionless and voided of attachment from the viewers.
Allahu Akbar
The Emperor told Vader in TESB about Luke that “he could destroy us”. So it makes sense that Luke is on a higher level than most Jedi. Thus his mental projection at the end vs Kylo worked beautifully. Question... If Luke went on that planet to die like he said, why didn’t he just destroy the map and not leave it open for someone to put together the pieces?
I think it's obvious that JJ had different intentions for Luke. He certainly didn't intend for Luke to go that island just to die.
it was the map to the first Jedi Temple. People believe Luke went there, thus its a map to Skywalker.
The Duwang No?
Except for the fact that he got beat down by the Mary Sue, rendering your opinion impotent, like Luke in this movie.
The Duwang Bit why have a stored map to the location at all? Why split it? If Luke wants the Jedi to end, he wouldn't want a map to the temple or the text's for anyone to find, especially dark force users. It's still a stupid plot point no matter what you come up with.
"I hope there's not a romance there, cuz I just don't wanna see it."
Oh boy
This whole movie was subversion of expectations. Every arch. Really risky. I appreciate that. Force awakens was a crowd pleaser. This film was risk and expansion of lore. And lots of fans will be mad about that
Andrew Wadsworth Yeah and I really liked the force projections. I hear the power was explained in other mediums but it set up a really clever moment
Think about how the movie ended. Then think again if it's really "subverting" anything.
Zeruss01 Think about how awesome Poe's bombing run started, and how poorly it ended. Everyone was expecting the happy hero pilot to save the day completely, instead he made the situation worse. Then he couldn't follow orders, he thought he knew better than the admiral, and almost fucked it all up again by starting a mutiny that my entire theater seemed to think was a good idea. Wrong.
Next we take Luke. Everyone was so excited to see how the legendary jedi would be 30 years later, yet they all expected him to be the same man, as if nothing had happened in that time. Luke was emotionally traumatized by his own idiotic moment of weakness. And call it headcannon if you want, but the dark thrives on fear. He saw the darkness in Kylo, which sparked his fear. Much like the way his fear of Vader getting to leia made him irrational, and he had to almost kill Vader before he came to grip with it. Luke got a good story, a story of growth and acceptance.
And honestly, I could keep going with other examples. Finn and Rose, everyone thought "oh hey all this trouble will be worth it...." wrong.
Master Yoda explained the entire theme of the movie to both Luke and the audience. "Failure is the best teacher"
Andrew Wadsworth .....it is not fighting the things we hate but saving the things we love ..... And yet they killed everything we loved
Andrew Wadsworth the problem was it subverted your expectations and instead gave you nothing. Will we get some background on snoke? Nope, fooled you! He’s literally just a plot device. Who are Rey’s parents? They literally don’t matter. Will Luke do anything interesting? Nope! He milks a cow, holds up Kylo Ren for three minutes, and dies.
Instead we get Kylo Ren deciding that being evil is fantastic and Rey continuing to be a Mary Sue.
The entire film is about failure.
Luke fails Rey / failed Kylo Ren
Poe failed with every decision he made (until the end). And Holdo had no reason to trust him, he wasn't a commander at that point and just recently fucked up an entire mission. She is the new leader and must not argue with a commander otherwise her authority is in danger
Kylo fails to turn Rey
Rey fails to turn Kylo
Leia fails to rescue (most of) the resistance
Snoke ... well he dies, that's like the ultimate failure for him
Finn and Rose fail their mission
The only one who succeeds with his actions is actually DJ, the one who hasn't chosen a side.
A film about failure, learning from it and finding the spark of hope. "Pass on what you have learned, failure most of all"
Also the "romance" between Rose and Finn is unconvincing because it's one sided, to me that was incredibly obvious. She has a crush on him right from the get go. And he clearly has those feelings only for Rey.
Regarding Luke's force projection. Wasn't that the whole thing?! That only he could do that?! That probably no one ever has done that?!
Regarding Snoke, well he is a plot devise to sharpen the best villain of the last decade. It's all in service of the characters and the story.
And regarding Rey not being tempted for a bit - well that's the point. That is why it wasn't a problem for her to go into the darkness.
I don't wanna blame anyone for not liking /adoring The Last Jedi. But to me it seems pretty much just fanboy hate. Next to no one points actual film flaws out (which it has) but just decisions some didn't agree with. Before Empire Strikes Back we never saw a force ghost or even jedi use the force to move objects. Before Return of the Jedi we never saw force lightning. Johnson now established something that probably no one has ever done before by the (possibly) strongest jedi of all time - and some people go riot. It's a bit like some reactions to TFA, when next to no one could point out flaws in the film making and basically the point to "hate" the film where the plot similarities to Star Wars (because Star Wars was always about the plot ...) and that Rey was a Mary Sue (a term no one knew prior to that film and is now proven wrong by The Last Jedi).
I don't know folks. My inner 12 year old was smiling the whole thing through. I didn't need BB8 on an AT-ST and it's a bit convenient how they met DJ. But other than that there are not many flaws narrative wise. Basically all the humor was consistent with the characters that portrayed it at that point. All character motivations were clear, most arcs were satisfying, the acting was superb (probably the best Star Wars film in regards to acting), the cinematography was incredible, the tone was handled beautifully, the pacing worked for the most part and the plot made sense.
I dont think Rey or Ren can be turned. Thats the point. THEY MUST be Light side or Dark side. There MUST be Balanced.
If anything. BB8 is a bigger Mary Sue than Rey ever was. Nearly as bad as R2 LOL!
RF-D2 I dont usually read comments this long. But fuckit man. Love your take on it. 10/10
@The VGC exactly and the film makes a pretty good case for it, especially with Luke isolating himself from the force
The movie is not only about failure it even is a failure. Rian Johnson is a genius!
Did Rose bother anyone else or just me?
Ky le bro shes the worst star wars character of all time
I also liked her. She's completely like the girl from Okja.
Ky le The whole Casino scenes were just awful and unnecessary.
I hated her, the romance between her and Finn just doesn't work.
She had 2 personality traits that she switched between - stupid and annoying.
Dude. "A good time no alcohol required?". Way too high. Saw it drunk in theatres and was baffled
#Justice4Ackbar
Erik Hicks that was the second most disappointing part. 1st was Rose
Admiral Ackbar should have taken command after Leia. Mon Calamaris can't catch a break in such a racist, speciest Star Wars movie. Instead they bring in a white human that has never proven herself in battle unlike admirable Admiral Ackbar.
Mar10 Uh... They mention he died on the bridge. Leia was the only survivor.
P.S. She also was experienced. They mention some battle.
#MonCalaLivesMatter
I enjoyed the movie well enough. But the biggest issue for me was that it didn't satisfy my need to see what Luke could do at the peak of his powers. We followed Luke when he had just started his Jedi path. And then we meet him after he has abandoned his training. I wanted to see a fully realized Jedi master. But what we got was a rusty old force user. Then at the very end we got a little bit of force magic, and it wasted away Luke. It left me completely unfulfilled. Where was legends Luke, where was my Luke Skywalker.
In the first trilogy, Luke NEVER EVER gave up on his father. He matured in Return of the Jedi and was true to the cause. And in this movie, he did a 360 and was like, "I shouldn't have saved him, it has caused more problems to the universe that the Emperor is dead". That doesn't freakin' make sense. Legends Luke is like the greatest Jedi who ever lived, massive force powers. He has the best of both worlds because he learned from the Jedi's mistakes.
Also, The more I think about it, they only used Snoke for Kylo Ren, therefore, I've accepted that he, and his past, is pointless. However, you can notice where kylo is about to execute rey, that he disguises his actions. As he physically turns his own lightsaber, he uses the force to turn Rey/Luke's lightsaber. Kylo, literally was able to disguise his own mind into killing Snoke, and is seriously one of my favorite things about this movie. It's interesting that in VI, Vader kills the Emperor because he has turned back to the good, and did it for selfless reasons, but kylo killed snoke for selfish reasons. Last thing; when Rey tells kylo she saw his future, and Kylo sees Rey's I feel like it draws back to that perspective. It's not how they truly interpret it, it's how they want to interpret it. Just like Lor San Tekka said: "Without the jedi there can be no balance in the force." if kylo live then rey lives. if kylo dies then rey dies. if that boy at the end is a grey jedi, well i guess there's just grey jedis now, which I'm kind of upset they haven't touched on that yet.
exactly my thoughts Luke was snokes equal and when snoke died the force made it so that Luke will die too. so either kylo and rey become friends or they both die
Honestly though, if the empire and the first order weren't even a thing, literally what's the point in hating the light and/or dark side? Like AHH HE'S ANGRY WE MUST KILL HIM BECAUSE HE'S TRYING TO KILL US like it's basically all pointless, and I never thought about it like that until this movie. I love the fact that Luke wants the force for everybody. I agree with the way they're going because they couldn't close the skywalker trilogy with another skywalker, because it would leave us with the same answer we started with: "What happens next?" Now it makes sense why the skywalker bloodline was born in the first place. Anakin literally came from no one but his mother. Shmi literally says that he didn't have a father. Before Anakin, there were 200+ jedi and 2 sith. Now, there's 1 jedi and 1 sith. He did fulfill the prophecy, but not how anyone wanted to believe. The Force just got the ball rolling. I'm still not convinced tho that Rey's parents were exactly who Kylo says they are. He says he saw it in her mind, but he couldn't see the map to Luke. If he can't see something she has seen, how can he see something she hasn't seen/remembered?
Tyler Gandee mayhaps, but Vader did NOT kill the emperor selflessly - he did that for himself, in order to save his own son. that is not a bad thing, but it also is not selfless. Parents saving their child is instinctual/natural and in their own interest, always .. that's the reason people seem it such an atrocity when parents kill or mistreat their kids, yes?
Well put I didn't think of Kylos selfishness in that decision at first. Or how powerful in the force he is to actually trick Snoke, a force master in all rights after what we saw of him here. This is awesome, because the force seems so ALIVE in this movie and trilogy so far. These characters are super force potentials, so it's really cool to see the new age abilities and how far the mastery of the force has advanced. Not saying they could still take on someone like Vader, but they seem more like embodiments of the nature of the force, the beliefs of the Jedi and the Sith, but detached from the orders themselves.
Its cool how that works too. They don't care for the old establishments, as newer generation's typically do. They just don't agree with the former ideologies. They take from both as they please, but obviously have a base nature in light or dark. Maybe this is stretching it, but I can totally be unfazed (if not excited) to see Rey throw out a bit of lightning it a fight. I can completely believe it. Because she's dabbled in the dark here. She's curious, but hasn't been hammered with the age old strict ideologies of the Jedi. So therefore she's unhindered in the mastery of the force. I think we're gonna be dealing with some top tier badasses in Rey and Kylo by episode 9.
Snoke was easily the most interesting character and gave the trilogy a purpose. There is no more reason to care with him dead.
Nah kylo ren was, and that made him an even better character imo. Until the TROS...
also it was Great seeing Puppet Yoda again haven't seen that Yoda since Empire Strikes Back
PinkiePool GamerBrony9 How could a puppet today look worse than a puppet from 1983? Should have stuck with CGI.
You didn't watch Return of the Jedi?
PinkiePool GamerBrony9 for the first half of Yoda’s cameo/segment he looked like shit.
But this looked like it was a CGI puppet Yoda...
i hated the fin and rose story it was so stupid
Frozen Banana Racist much?
Ma'at in 2018 wait what? How is that racist? Her‘s and Fin‘s storyline IS useless and stupid. Seriously, they didn‘t accomplish shit but let the First Order know of the escape pods.
Saying its racist is just retarded, it was dumbly made, nothing to do with Finn being black, wtf has 2017 soon to be 2018 become
Possibly. Sad how you gain trust in the world but morons sometimes just bring it down...
It was a shit story arc and I was preparing for Finns death the whole time he was driving into the cannon but fucking Rose had to ruin it, I hope the crash killed her.
That was a fantastic breakdown, Jeremy. Better than the other spoiler reviews I watched about this movie. Well done.
The only difference between Luke and the 'legend' is we've actually seen Luke's adventures and we, as the audience, know that he is, in fact, a legend. Disney would have done well to mine from the extended universe books of the last 30 years for their ideas. Instead: mansplaining, purple hair, and subversion.
James Cameron said in an interview for Aliens that it was his goal to subvert expectations while still being respectful to the source material.
So, RJ got the subversion part right, but he forgot to respect the source material.
This movie had no pay off at all. Didn't answer any questions I had or expand the Star Wars universe at all no building of characters, and a shit ton plot holes. Meh Wars.
calipachanguero didn't answer any questions you had... So you had NO question about reys parents, NO question about kylos back story, NO question of why Luke was where he was. None of that was a question of yours? Oh lemme guess how your only question was "who's snoke?" Right? Surrrre
All those grievances you just stated would be covered under the "in the no payoff" part of my vitriol. An example of the unanswered questions I had would be: "What is the first order?" "Why do they want to rebuild the empire? Why is there a resistance when the republic exists?" etc.
You make no sense just take your L that itszaa handed to you
Adrian Saucedo dude chill out itszaaaaamzeh didn’t hand out any L’s. The last Jedi was a slap in the face to fans. The question “who’s snoke” is a huge question. Rey having junk traders as parents is fucking stupid and makes her more of a Mary Sue than she already was. How did the first order come up and become what it is when for 30 fucking years they didn’t exist. Why would luke leave a map to where he was and said to find him if he was ever needed in TFA only to say he came here to die. Why would he even think about killing his OWN NEPHEW even for a split second just cause he sees a glimpse of what COULD happen. Disney took Star Wars and just shit all over it this is not worth arguing
You should really hope that come next episode snoke isn't alive still and that kylo did tell the truth about her parents bcuz you will eat your words, that's why you should just enjoy the movie for what it is. You are funny for wanting everything answered now, and have never heard of plot twists or you know surprises in sequels.
I don’t think the internet can handle the Allah Ackbar memes if it was the admiral who made the kamikaze light speed jump.
Johny Ricco LMAO I said that same thing!!! Yo but Jeremys right that would have been amazing 😂😂
Johny Ricco Allahu Ackbar
My sides just went into hyperspace
Jeremy Jahns you need to see this 😂😂😂
“Assalamualaikum, Rebels”
they could've saved like 30 mins of the movie if only they told poe the fucking plan ...
"Rey comes from nothing" haha i wished they kept it like that
Rose saving Finn pisses me off. Finn was a cowardly bitch in the first one but he set aside his fear and was willing to save his friends, even though it could kill him. Rose saving him threw that all away.
I want to like Finn, but he was useless in 8
Ben Walters How was Finn useless? In episode 7 he pretty much was the reason why Starkiller base was blown up.
Idk if I'd say cowardly once he got to know Rey he pretty much did anything to save her, he even does that in this one when he tries to take the tracker with him on the escape pod.
Finn had a redemption arc similar to Han in their first respective films; Finn went from cowardly to heroic, Han went from selfish to heroic. I agree though, his role was a bit disappointing. Hopeful there will be some payoff in IX.
crazy "useless in episode 8" Episode 7 no, but he said 8
"but its star wars, people will watch it, it'll make money, doesn't matter"
this entire star wars rehash/reboot/continuation summed up in one youtubers sentence
DJ Dactyl just like marvel movies, yea. Avengers 2 was a mess and people ate it up, and look at the shit IW trailer that everyone ate up. Yea, biased opinions are everywhere these days
I'm not so sure now. It had a big opening weekend from all the pre-sales, but the dislike is world-wide and real. Second weekend will be very telling. The audience Rotten Tomatoes score dropped like a rock on Friday.
DJ Dactyl except it's actually good lmao
I think the awkward kiss is kinda the point. She likes him, he doesn't like her
Agreed.
Dave T Yeah. And Rey harbour feelings for him too. I mean frankly speaking with all the mind control s*** that Kylo & Snoke earlier on & her with the old jedi texts, Rey will have a much bigger challenge in EP 9. And so does Finn, he cares Rose as a friend and had made his choice to help the resistance. So how do u think rose will react suppose he politely tells her the truth?
That's what I thought too. The love interest is one sided.
"I'm literally making s**t up..I'm just saying "what if"- it's a sci-fi adventure..." Sounds pretty much how the writers could have approached the...writing for this story! The true fan can "plug" the plotholes, that's one way to engage the viewer - make them confused and...hahahaha! You made so many good points here!
No one is talking about how chewwie flew the mellienium falcon bad ass !!
That's what flying the same ship for 40 years gets ya. Badass Top Gun level shit right there.
that was absolutely amazing the way chewie flew that shit
We needed to see that!
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought that shit was bad ass lol
Saw the movie twice, and every time John William's score played during that part, I overheard someone saying "this is awesome!" Also....loved the camera angles with Rey on the turrets. Great sequence!
The saving grace of this movie is the Rey/Kylo plot. It was deep and well developed. What really annoyed me was in the end the whole plot became meaningless. The whole plot was setting us up to think that Rey and Kylo would join together as neither light nor dark, to lead a new age without the Jedi and the Sith, but with a unified force. But no. Kylo just becomes double bad. Lots of people say this movie took a lot of risks, but I think that it didn’t take enough. In the end it still needed to serve its generic good-evil conflict device.
P.s “we won’t win by fighting the things we hate but saving the things we love” is the WORST quote of the franchise 😂
Even if Rey goes grey, Star Wars is about good and evil. This isn’t Game of Thrones or saving private Ryan, there has to be a central villain that must be stopped. Thank God, Snoke is dead, cause he was a waste of space and the audiences time!
Derek Ford no offence to you but you can’t just say Star Wars is about good and evil. The whole concept of a sequel is to add nuance to a franchise and deviate from the original to add more depth of world building.
For Star Wars to progress as a cinematic universe it needs to expand on new ideas and concepts. This movie had the perfect opportunity but missed the mark.
Nicholas Carroll Are you sure? Even worse than anything that came out of Anakin's mouth?
Nicholas Carroll no because Kylo killed Han and Rey never forgot that. I never once thought they would go that route because they made it clear that Kylo wanted to kill his family and Rey wanted family. It was always the opposite between those two so good and evil made the most sense. Rey was not going to forget about family and friends just because Kylo had his shirt off.
Nicholas Carroll
Simple.
Kylo wanted Rey on his side.
Rey wanted Kylo on her side.
That's the only reason the split ways, or rather, *saber*
It’s curious how so many people blame Disney for things they don’t like about these films, despite it being pretty well documented that for TFA & TLJ-both Disney have been very conscious of not interfering with the visions of the directors. Did people blame 20th Century Fox for things they didn’t like in the Prequel and Original Trilogies?
spugesdu they already fired 2 directors off star wars movie and lol
Well, if they want to blame Fox now they'll still be blaming Disney lel.
mario reyes Disney didn't fire them. Lucasfilm fired them. Disney doesn't interfere with what Marvel and Lucasfilm is doing. If you didn't like this movie, the only person to blame is Rian Johnson. If you liked this movie, the only person to praise is Rian Johnson. I'm not even sure if that's his name though lmao.
And you really believe that? We are just going to spend a BILLION dollars on something then just..... Let people do there own things? ummm no
Zachery Janulewicz As long as it's making them their billions of dollars back...then yes. They will let them do their own thing.
That doesn't make any sense .
Kylo saw his grandfather's lightsaber get destroyed in front of him in half , but when Luke withdraw the blue lightsaber in their brief fight at the end he didn't ask any questions ?
Hi Daßer that's the point, both for kylo and the entire audience that didn't notice. Kylo is so full of hate that he can't think, the audience is so into the moment that they can't notice that that's not possible.
luke didnt ask in the beginning, why would kylo
in the Clone Wars, there's literally hundreds of Jedi fighting with blue and green lightsabers soooo......
Sorry you have to be really dumb or emotional to like this movie and your rational and thinking, drink booze or do drugs, only way this film is any good
He hasn't seen Luke since the flashback. It's not exactly unlikely that he built a new lightsaber that looked like the old one. Anakin had his lightsaber destroyed in Attack of the Clones, but built one that looked exactly the same by the time of Revenge of The Sith
The purple-haired admiral's role (whatever her name is I don't care) was just laughable. Why in all that is holy would she not tell one of the ship's captains about her overall plan for escaping the First Order? A mutiny would have been spared if she'd acted like a real admiral and not a pompous bitch. It's just bad writing all around.
And Rose and Finn's arch was even worse. It contributes absolutely nothing to the main story, and the part where she prevents Finn from destroying the battering ram was seriously one of the stupidest things I've ever seen. At that point I was praying she would die.
scottski02
I think it was a grudge.
You know that Resistance fleet that was destroyed because Poe wanted to take out one first order ship?
Yeah.
That was Holdos fleet.
Ganondorf Dragmire a grudge is a greatly unprofessional thing to have as an admiral, even moreso in a life-death situation.
Mior Akif Mior Farid
So it's a character flaw then,
Ganondorf Dragmire that's a pretty big flaw for an Admiral, who's supposed to be good at formulating tactics (yet fails to see the tactical inefficiency in withholding info from Poe, a loose cannon that she encouraged to go rogue even moreso because she didn't share the plan)
Mior Akif Mior Farid
Poe got demoted though...
EDIT: he also lied to her face.
"The more you expand on Force powers, the more you add to Force powers, that these are powers have always been around and always been available, you make more plot holes looking back at what's happened."
Couldn't disagree more with this. The Original Trilogy made it very clear that the only limitations to the Force are the user's ability and imagination. When the Emperor used Force lightning in Return of the Jedi, it wasn't because Force lightning was part of the Official Sith Toolkit, it was simply how Palpatine chose to manifest his power, in the scariest and most painful way possible.
I've wanted these movies to showcase new Force abilities for a long time, because there's no reason why Jedi and Sith should be limited to the same five abilities. THE FORCE HAS NO LIMITS.
"The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force."
Couldn't agree more. The force is just a tool, its the user and his creativity that gives it power
Was it just me, or is it just me, or are people brutally picking this movie apart? I actually agree with most of everyone's complaints, they're legitimate, but they make it sound so much worse than they really are. And they DONT TALK ENOUGH about the great things in TLJ. Luke's moments leading up to his 'death' was legendary status. The kamikaze light speed moment was legendary status. Kylo Ren and Rey's conversations through out the movie were so good, and their team up was awesome! Seeing Kylos struggle with his 'demons' being presented so much more clearer in this movie was exceptional, you really get that feeling like he is confused... I could go on lol
IDK man it's almost as if people want to hate it but because some of the moments in the movie were just too good for them to even argue with, they just end up with meh...
It's just human nature I guess. I agree with you, I understand their complaints, and I have a few myself, but this is still a GREAT Star Wars film with so many amazing moments. This is completely unrelated but when the Pixel 2 phone came out a few months ago, EVERYONE was tearing it apart. Now months later, people don't say a word and most people actually love their phone, including me. So yeah. People are stupid lmao.
The issue is not that they introduced new force abilities. It just felt incredibly forced, almost like they did it for sake of wowing the audience, and not to expand the lore in any meaningful way. The more you try to make sense of it, the more you realize it’s just lazy writing.
Obi-Wan became one with the force as he died. He wasn't struck down by Vader, if you remember, Obi-Wan wasn't cut in half, he disappeared before being struck down.
It's disappointing how little the contrived hyperspace scene bothers you. It destroys all established space battle conventions in Star Wars, which granted, are comparitively minimal to begin with but makes the few that exist all the more important.
It's deus ex machina.
John Oh that ship had an experimental shield that allowed it to tear through the destroyers and not the other way around. It is stated in the film. It breaks no conventions.
