"Why didn't Palpatine burn the jedi temple to the ground during his rule?" Because he wanted to spit in the jedi's faces one more time and turned it into his personal palace
I seem to recall one of the characters in the X-Wing series entering the Jedi Temple and discovering that Palpatine had been using it as a personal trophy case for mementos and relics of all the dead Jedi Masters that had been wiped out by Order 66 and the Inquisition. For those who don’t know; Colin’s script was “leaked” online a few months ago and you can read it online. It’s an alternate episode 9 that honestly is much more satisfying as an ending to the trilogy and the Skywalker saga.
@@Correa24bori No. The fanbase has already reached a general consensus on this. It's definitely better than RoS and TLJ, and probably would of been better than TFA, if it had gone through rewrites. It's not exactly great, but it does it's best with the heavily flawed blueprint that the other films made.
@@lovewillspill4460 Well yeah, you go to one of the multiple readings or analysis on UA-cam, you'll generally find fans praising it's qualities while acknowledging a few of the criticisms such as the Rey/Poe thing. People think that the star wars fanbase is comprised of unpleaseable Gremlins, and while that might be true for OT purists, the rest simply want a quality product well made.
Probably the best thing about Duel of the Fates for me was the set design of the ruins of the Jedi temple. Genuinely haunting and horrifying. I can dream.
Man, they started the pandering and damage control in episode 7. And even though it was fun to watch, all the serious problems that this new trilogy had to deal with started with that film.
Eddie Vedder yeah I totally agree. Personally the respect I had for Disney Star Wars really fell apart with The Last Jedi for me. That was the beginning of the dark ages...
@@thebutterstick8659, I started getting worried after The Force Awakens. By making its story almost exactly like Episode 4 (with Rey as the new Luke, and the First Order as the new Empire), Kennedy and company were going to have to sacrifice the original characters for the new ones. That was what I feared going into the The Last Jedi. That movie confirmed it.
Eddie Vedder Yeah I feel you. I ended up giving The Force Awakens a pass mostly because in order to revive Star Wars they would need to play it as safe as possible, but the more I look back on it, the weaker of a movie it is. It’s clear they were in over their heads with this new trilogy thinking that cheap elements like fan service would be enough for people.
I’d absolutely go see this movie, but the main problem would be that this is definitely an adult Star Wars movie that you might hesitate to take a kid to. Laser guillotine? Nightmares. On a side note, Disney should just make it. “Here’s another episode 9. Now go argue about which one is canon while you give us the rest of your money.”

That "force heaven" scene had the potential to be an all-time favorite scene. Imagine Hayden Christensen and Mark Hamill in a scene together as father and son. As well as Hayden and Ewan McGregor interacting together again. Could also include Yoda, Mace Windu and Qui-Gon. Would have been another great way to tie all the trilogies together. With a decent writer, you could also explain why Luke looks older while everyone else is younger in a comedic way. Perhaps the others are lightheartedly chiding Luke for appearing as older, but he's only doing so because that's the version of him Rey would recognize. Rey has never seen the others anyway so they can appear as they like. Would have been a great fan-service scene that also serves the story. Could have Mace, Yoda and even Anakin himself musing about their interpretations of the Chosen One Prophecy now that everything has transpired. Don't have them give a definite answer, but their own theories and personal interpretations and let the audience mull it all over for themselves.
Jason Shaneyfelt oh, sorry but Anakin literally makes no appearance in Duel Of The Fates, only Yoda, Obi-Wan, and Luke. That’s the only thing I dislike about the script
@@tam2237 Really? Wasn't aware. Still would have been a great opportunity. The leaked script probably wasn't a final version of the script anyway. If this movie did go ahead, there's still a chance something like Anakin could have been added.
TamBrix22 would it have been Alec Guinness’s or Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan? Create a CG Alec Guinness, like Tarkin in Rogue One or have Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi appear?
@@uscman Either would be cool, but I would prefer Ewan's Obi-Wan as I'd rather have a live actor over CGI any day. Like I said in my first comment, you could explain it away with the little joke I laid out.
Jason Shaneyfelt idk y, but it kind of bothered me when I heard Ewan McGregor’s voice in the Sequel Trilogy, as it was cool to hear him at the time but it made me think “wait, wouldn’t that be Alec Guinness’s voice saying those lines Ewan said?” I know Sir Alec Guinness has passed away, but they could’ve gotten someone who sounds exactly like Guinness to say Ewan’s lines in the Sequel Trilogy. It’s a weird thing that’s been bugging me when I think about it.
I like the fact that you don't treat Trevorrow's take as it would have been "a masterpiece". The fact that it probably would have been better than the movie we got is another story. But I totally bought the review. I was in a parallel universe for a minute...
Yeah I liked that too. He didn't say it was brilliant, he didn't say it was terrible, he just gave his honest opinion. Maybe that's more common in his universe.
Alex SciChannel yeah I’ve heard there was heavy studio interference for the music on 9. They didn’t let Williams invent anything new from what I’ve heard, which I wouldn’t be surprised by at all.
What guts me is that the "duel of the fates" music was supposed to be a part of the finale of the film and the cut it for generic Luke theme. There is still a TV trailer for the film that has it.
@@geoffreybassett6741 I think the fact that John Williams’ musical scores for the sequels were mostly forgettable or recycled is one of the biggest indictments of the whole sequel trilogy. In the Original trilogy, Williams was writing music for a classic hero’s journey full of adventure, love, and wonder. In the prequels, he was writing music to fit a Shakespearean tragedy to reflect Anakin’s fall. In the sequels, he was pretty much told to just play the “greatest hits collection” because all this trilogy tried to do was cash in on nostalgia and lazily reuse plot points. The only memorable pieces of original music in the sequels were Rey’s theme, March of the Resistance, and Jedi Steps, all of which I think would still rank pretty low on an overall tier list. Poor John Williams did what he could, but the movies were so derivative and lacking in structure he had almost nothing to work with.
Duel of the fates is actually a great title. I know it's the name of the prequel score, but it's still a pretty cool title. I wish ep 9 was actually named this way
It was *supposed* to be named that. Jeremy is reviewing the released *script* for Duel If The Fates, which is the original script that was not filmed, and was replaced with Rise Of Skywalker.
On one hand I think Jeremy did it for the clicks. Duel of the Fates is one of official 4th of May themes. But on the other hand, Rey fighting Kylo does technically work as Duel of the Fates. At least in the Mirror Universe.
How could you not mention the cameo by Ian McDiardmid as the Emperor’s hologram? Loved seeing him back and I’m glad it was a cameo, would have been really easy for them to being him back from the dead and ruin Anakin’s redemption from Jedi
Alex Ayala Rey: OP to OP Finn: useful to useless Poe: best x wing pilot to resistance leader? Kylo: bad to good (ok this one might be better than Jeremy’s) Hux: first order General to a punchline Snoke: mysterious force user to dead
"Why didn't Palpatine burn the jedi temple to the ground during his rule?" Easy it's a place of rage for Darth Vader, rage/anger lead to hate, hate leads to the POWER OF THE DARK SIDE.
Plus it was a private sanctum for palpatine when he was on Coruscant, and filled with tons of ancient Jedi and Sith relics. it was off limits to everyone but him and vader.
Yeah, Palpatine knew how idiodic the Jedi Code was and exploited it to get Anakin to the dark side. That temple represents the hammer he used to nail the jedi's coffin.
Palpatine was trolling the dead Jedi by turning their temple into his own Imperial Palace, makes perfect sense for the Emperor; as if serving as supreme chancellor right under their noses and conspiring with the Clone Army to murder the Jedi wasn't enough, he has to turn their place of sanctity into his own dark side party house.
@@kamoel4747 Oh i'm sorry, the movie must exist then and it's not a satire filled video with a bunch of plot holes for something that didn't ever happen. My lord, everyone's always gotta do full dickhead.
In my opinion The Force Awakens is a better title than Shadows of the Empire, i slightly prefer The Last Jedi over Echoes of the Dark Side, TLJ just sound catchier and Duel of the Fates is definitely a better title than The Rise of Skywalker
Michael Kieffer it only sounds better because it’s not the movie you got. You would have felt the same way if we got trevero’s script and JJ’s version leaked.
@@charltonallen7646 Yeah this review is WAY too forgiving of the flaws the Trevorrow script has. I mean, a Rey-Poe romance out of nowhere? There was NOTHING leading up to it. Force ghosts appearing for Sith? So many questions opened up. It just shows for me that the movie is all what you make of it, if you go in wanting to tear it apart, you'll find ways to do it. Ultimately the Sequels' main flaw was not having a continuous vision throughout the trilogy. That wouldn't change in any universe.
@@charltonallen7646 no dude, we really wouldnt. jj had to salvage the shitshow that was 8, and failed epically with his stupid 'mystery box!' chase style. Trevarro actually took the material he had, and i think the script he wrote is actually good considering what he had to work with. the current 8 and 9 are complete garbage. 7 only get a small pass because on its own, it kinda works and sets up crumbs for stories to lead from. sadly didnt pan out.
2 things, mostly just addressing questions you had in the review regarding lore 1. Obi-Wan could do that to Vader, and did, right after Vader struck him down. It was in a comic, though. He like asked him if it was all worth it and called him Anakin and Vader yelled at him to not say that name because Anakin was weak so he had to kill him. 2. Palpatine didn't burn the Jedi Temple to the ground because after he had Vader and all his clone bois clear it out and whatnot, he moved in and made it his own private castle on the surface of Coruscant
Colin T is a garbage film-maker and Hollywood will soon blacklist him. His script was terrible and lacked even a basic knowledge of Star Wars lore. The guy didn't even glance at wookiepedia or crack open a visual dictionary before vomiting out this garbage. He watched the clone wars and rebels, stole a bunch of plot points from episodes, and pretended like he wrote a star wars film.

Bigger stakes, more emotional, more development for its characters, a more mythic feel to it, no childish Joss Whedon jokes, no artificially saturated lighting and colors, fucking DARKSEID, and no goddamn CG mustache. It speaks volumes that many who worked on JL have spoken out that Snyder's film was the one they were proud of, not whatever it was WB cobbled together.
This movie sounds SO much better than The Rise Of Skywalker. Rey sounds like she could’ve been similar to Galen Marek, Vader’s secret apprentice from The Force Unleashed, where he was able to wield both light and dark side powers. However, she wouldn’t have been a Mary Sue for the sake of it.

@@franknfurterfan666 He does that in Legends too I believe. In any case Legends is the best follow up to the OT, not these Disney films. And no I'm not a Disney hater I like everything they've done with Star Wars except the sequels

The question is...how did anyone think this movie wasn't better than the one they actually released? I mean, it is a total no brainer which one is better.
Sprojy yup. I heard someone read through it, and flipped. It sounded soooooo much better. The loss of Carrie Fisher meant that it would need to be rewritten some, but to ditch it so completely... Its a shame.
They really should, but now we don't have two of the original three because Harrison Ford will not come back for huge role. Disney had it all. They had the original cast and endless possibilities.....and they pissed it all away. I would still take a reboot with just Mark Hamill and some new characters though. He needs to get redemption for that hack job they put him through.
Isaiah Highley mostly because The Book of Henry was a flop, people point to The Last Jedi and damage control being the main cause of this film to never materialize but I personally think that Disney kicked out Colin when they saw that 13% on Rotten Tomatoes.
@@VickyToria136 Don't get me wrong, the sequel trilogy was a massive dumpster fire and I will never forgive JJ Abrams for thinking that making these script independently from each other at the same time and, yes, Duel of the Fates won't make it any better, I watched Jenny Nicholson's video on the subject. It's like people demanding the Snyder's cut. That would be interessting to see but I don't thing it will be better than the theatrical version of Justice League.
@@lordshadow3822 Except JJ never plan anything for episode 8. I fucking hate when people said this. JJ abram was offered to direct an entire trilogy by Kathleen Kenendy but JJ abram himself declined. Kathelen Kenedy then do the 3 directors thing where Rian Johnson and JJ abram would work togrther for episode 7 and 8 for smooth transition. Rian Johnson even famously ask JJ abram who is rey parent which he has no answer. Rian Johnson show JJ the script in which JJ aproved and he shoot it. So stop making up bullshit.
@Jackson Marwitz Thing is, lots of concepts / fact-fic / rewrites of movies already made seem ALOT better when told like this. Jeremy's take based on the released script sounds way better than the E9 we've got. There's a pretty cool rewrite of the entire trilogy out there by Uniquenameosaurus - also sounds amazing, I'd love that. I also remembered, from a few years ago, BelatedMedia did a whole series of "What if Episode 1/2/3 was good", where he re-imagines the entire plot of these films. And the stories he tells are indeed alot better. I dont know if there is alot of hindsight use that goes in making these rewrites better than the final product, or if it's production issues that end up messing with the final product or if it's just difficult to execute these visions. So whether these re-imagined versions would actually better on screen, who knows... but they're fun to watch and think about for sure.
@Jackson Marwitz Rise of Skywalker was not broken because of any execution. It was broken from conceptual level. It a movie that try to fit all 3 trilogies into one instead follow up of the Last Jedi. Duel of the Fate is better ending because it actually follow up as a sequel. Which is funny because sequel suppose to be rey trilogy but RoS never end Rey story but rather Luke so rey is in this weird position that her story have no ending

@Bad Boys Boogie No self respecting adult will make it past the first 3 seasons. They're complete garbage made for little kids. The jar jar episodes almost ended my life with how garbage they are. Go back and watch those jar jar episodes and then tell me how good the show is. Dude, no person will watch 3 seasons of bad shit to get to good shit, and that's why this show needed to end so they could move on to something else. No new fans, the show only loses fans. No one will make it through season 1-3 besides kidsm
For those who don’t know; Colin’s script was “leaked” online a few months ago and you can read it online. It’s an alternate episode 9 that honestly is much more satisfying as an ending to the trilogy and the Skywalker saga.
Oooh
Debatable if it’s much more satisfying. Star Wars fans I guarantee would still hate it somehow.
@@Correa24bori No. The fanbase has already reached a general consensus on this. It's definitely better than RoS and TLJ, and probably would of been better than TFA, if it had gone through rewrites. “Not doing pandering, and not doing damage control for episode 8 backlash.” Jeremy you are a freaking genius
@@eddievedder6074 Glad someone else said it. I always thought TFA was ass. The trilogy was fucked up from the beginning.
They catered to children and even then the toys are flopping hard.
Daniel Wills lmao kids love that kind of stuff. They love gratuitous violence, what kids don’t like are jump scares and clowns. Things made to be unsettling for adults are normally nothing to kids
Laser guillotine is not nearly as bad as Anakin killing younglings or burning (almost) alive.
Daniel Wills Disney would definitely do that if they knew they’d make money from it.
I don't think they would do that because Carrie Fisher is now dead, so they can't film new scenes with her

Outside of the horrors of the pandemic itself, this is easily the most depressing thing I've seen during quarantine.

I just like the title because it acknowledges that John Williams’ music is the one great thing in every Skywalker Saga movie
Except fpr episode 9. The music wasn't original but just a rehash of his greatest hits but muted slightly without emotional impact.
Alex SciChannel yeah I’ve heard there was heavy studio interference for the music on 9. They didn’t let Williams invent anything new from what I’ve heard, which I wouldn’t be surprised by at all.
@@vsf_dave811 facts

"Why didn't Palpatine burn the jedi temple to the ground during his rule?"
Easy it's a place of rage for Darth Vader, rage/anger lead to hate, hate leads to the POWER OF THE DARK SIDE.
Plus it was a private sanctum for palpatine when he was on Coruscant, and filled with tons of ancient Jedi and Sith relics. it was off limits to everyone but him and vader.
He actually transformed it into his Imperial Palace.

So stop making up bullshit.
not gonna lie, i cried a little halfway through this video
This was the most impressive work I have ever seen you do. You could get and award for this
This video makes me depressed. Wish we got this movie instead.
Satchel How privileged are you, you pathetic loser?
Same
Deckard you tell someone they’re a “pathetic loser” as you go and cry about their comment about a fuckin movie
@@KaneK1234 I think saying that made you pathetic loser #1
Deckard This man is crying
I prefer duel of the fates instead of the rise of Skywalker
@Jackson Marwitz on concept/paper
@Jackson Marwitz The script was released, so...
Although I like the film, yeah Duel of the Fates is much better TITLE. Badass🤘✌❤😁
I honestly thought the alternate universe was going to be “worth buying on HD DVD.” Awesome video! 🤣🤣🤣
Can we just take a moment to appreciate Jeremy’s ability to act, even if it’s as himself? I feel like if anyone else did a video like this there’d be so much more “*wink, wink* see what I did there?” This just sounds like another one of Jeremy’s reviews, done in his fashion and speaking patterns. Bravo, man.
This sub-series is excellent satire, Jeremy, and I whole-heartedly applaud it continuing.
This made me forget about rise of skywalker for a second. This guy is a good actor.
It was such bait that they included Duel of the Fates in some of the trailers for TROS, but it was nowhere to be found in the movie lol
Love the concept, Jeremy should definitely keep doing alternate universe reviews!!
