I used flooded lead acid deep cycle batteries previously for home backup and I found they deteriorated quicky with deeper discharge (loss of capacity). Lithium is just better all round for deep cycle use.
Thats awesome! 400AH is heaps!!! We might get another 200ah battery because we are really enjoying being offgrid with ac. I wish we could carry more water! Cheers mate
Yeah mate what I’m going to do is buy a water bladder 100l or so and keep it in the Gwm .If there is water around I’ll pump it in and drive to the van 👌
Lithium is definitely a game changer. I recently bought 3 x Kings 200A Lithiums & they are great for the price, about $800 (on special recently for $749 ea) similar specs & seen quite a few good reviews & teardowns, decent cells & BMS, one spec that is better, is they can run in 4p &/or 4S, so good for 48v systems too, the Kings 300A lithiums can output 300A continuously so are a neat drop in for ur inverter if only buying one. Your 160W of solar will perform better on lithium batteries too, as they can take a much higher charging current than any LA battery up to 99% SOC, so no solar power is wasted due to high battery resistance as it charges. If u want more (Cheap) solar panels it’s worth a look for 2nd hand house panels, they generally perform better with their higher output voltage, are a little heavier, but you can get them very cheap or free on FB. Good job. Cheers
Not sure if you did and I missed it but when you plug in from the inverter need to turn the power off to the BMS so the batteries aren't being charged from the inverter. Also the fridge if it automatically changes over to 240.
Lithium need to be charged at 14 volts, which is why the charger has to be reset. Smart alternators are a problem with second batteries as once the starting battery reaches 80% the alternator will cut its output. You need a power connection directly from the alternator thru the rear of the vehicle to the DC-DC charger in the van, so it can charge the lithium. An air-conditioned will flatten the lithium fairly quickly unless it is boosted by a generator.
Thank you :) No smart alternator on our car so that's a bonus. Yeah will keep an eye on charging and how much to use AC. Gotta be careful. Seems like a hour is safe. Any more we risk going flat and fridge turns off. Tested a few times now. Solar seems to be working great getting charge back up. About to fit the shunt so we can see where we are truly at Cheers
I heard the new law is to install lithium batteries outside the van. You might need to replace that old tray big enough one to accommodate your big battery
I'll give him that, been telling my partner you can fix anything with a reciprocating saw 😂. Just Sacrifice your couch for a lithium battery, well worth it 😂. Just don't sit on the part of the couch hahah Love the vids, and you just make it work 💪
I know!!! The deep cycle finally died so I had to upgrade 😀 Definitely love the extra power for sure :) I couldn't justify spending the money on a new battery as the old one was ok but now we can use the AC too! Pretty happy :)
@@wheelsbytheocean we did exactly that replaced 340amps of agm for 200 lithium and haven't looked back p.s love watching your shows keep up the great vids cheers Gordo

Loving you videos seeing a great young family loving life enjoying our great country. You're also making my bucket list even longer😊
Thanks mate! Cheers for watching! 🍻
Love your can do attitude 😁
Hahaha thanks mate. I was very reluctant to cut the couch and really didn't want to show anyone haha but there ya go 😜
Cheers mate
Just going through the motion getting the van built .I’m getting 800w Solar and 400 amp lithium .so should be all good 👍👌👍👌

@MrHsv123 yes for sure!
I'm gonna get rid of the Generator as I Hardy use it. And now I never will because of good battery 💪 more water! Haha
And ill grab a bladder too

Thanks for all the info mate :)
Good to hear the kings batteries are good to as they are a great budget option!
Cheers 🍻 😀

True :) yeah I flick the fridge and battery charger off
Thanks mate 😀

I will be relocating. I just heard of all this
Cheers
That's only onnew vans when the new regulations kick in later this year. Does not apply to existing vans.....
LOVE YR BATTERY TRAILER...😁
Hahahahaa yessssss!!!!! Been waiting for this comment! 🙌🏽
Yes it will run the aircon but the main thing is for how long And how much solar you've got
Correct :)
I tested It all on the vid. Got 2 hours out of it! Amazing :)
Awesome vid mate !
Thanks mate!!!

Hahaha thanks mate!! Yeah she'll be right attitude sorts everything out haha
Cheers!!!
Great video!
Can I ask how much solar you’re running?
Cheers
Yeah mate! Thanks for watching.
I've got 2 x 160W panels.
Works all perfectly :)
Nice review.
ive got 4 X 300AH runs the aircon over 8 hours
@@-Bigjordan haha that's insane! I love it!!!
Lithium is fully sealed and does not offgas so you can put them anywhere
Nice thanks mate!!! I haven't moved it at this stage. Seems to be all good 😀
Cheers for that
What is the brand and size of your inverter
Hey,
Kings - 3000w
Does a great job :)
New battery rules come into effect now, have to be not installed in RV living area.
Inverter cabling is to small,
Better fit a shunt to monitor SOC
Shunt coming real soon :)
Just did some research. Might have to relocate. Ahhhh
Thanks for the info mate :)
Also added some notes in the description. I really appreciate you pointing this out to me. Thank you
Standard is only enforceable from Nov 2024 in new RVs and it's not retrospective is my understanding.
Thanks mate :)
Youll need a shunt to show battery percentage. Voltage is not a guide for lithium batteries unlike lead acid.
Thank you! Got one on order 😀
classic episode
Haha thanks mate!!
DON'T PUT IT NEAR WATER. OR HEAT.
THEY NEED GOOD VENTILATION !!!!!!
Thanks mate :) maybe I should add some speed holes haha
Thanks mate :) maybe I should add some speed holes haha
ALL GOOD. 12V LITTLE FAN IN THAT AREA. DURING IT BEING USED...
Hahaha I was just watching your goodlife run through Chang your mind m8

🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🍻
when you go to lithium you realise how useless AGM batteries are.
So true! I put up with AGM for 9 months. I feel a lot more confident in this set up :)
