Very good images. You may want to repeat the same experiment with your Zeiss Nettar. The 75mm Novar lens ( actually made by Rodenstock for Zeiss ) is a 3 element design which shows spherical aberrations and under correction similar to the plastic fantastic Holga when wide open but sharpens up to the levels of a Tessar when stopped down to F11 or so. If you use it wide open or @ F5.6 you may find that it has such ethereal look that fits the scene well. The extra shutter speeds including B and the use of a slower film will also allow you to achieve that ' long exposure minimalist look ' that is so popular with some of our ' arty ' photographers at the moment. Cheers, I have shot these scenes on the Ikon but at small apertures. I'm not sure if I have tried the Ikon at f5.6 but makes sense for a softer image. Thanks.

Hi Roger just binged your holga videos it was a camera I never considered I had seen them before but dismissed it but having seen your images it’s triggered my interest for 120 film again and a bargain price appeals I look forward to getting one and giving it a go keep doing what you do as it’s appreciated 👍🏻

I love my Holga, I mainly shoot a mamiya 645 and an Olympus OM1, so it’s always a nice change of pace
I cut out a piece of red acetate and taped it over the lens as a red filter. It makes amazing BandW photos.

Hi, I'm a new viewer and enjoying your stuff. Love the IoW and have been there loads of times as I had an uncle with a house in Bembridge.
I'm just getting in to film photography after several years purely digital, so doing it on a budget. I want to get a Holga, but will be relying on a photolab to develop the film for me at the moment. am really enjoying the darkroom part of your videos though. Really informative and interesting.

Every holga is slightly different.i have several and always tape the back up a bit.First print I made was from a holga.

@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss On my Holga, I put black cotton yarn in the back's channels to avoid light leaks there. I did this first after seeing all of the videos on taping the hell out of the camera. It works, no leaks! Interesting that five rolls of Ilford HP5 cost as much as the Holga 120N!

Okay, you got a new subscriber. Please keep the dark-room processes coming! That was so fun and interesting. I love seeing the "failures" as well; they make your final successful print so much more satisfying. I've also never been interested in the Holga, but I kind of want one now! Maybe a great gift idea for nieces and nephews who I'd like to share the hobby with.

Hi Roger, thanks for your channel. I’ve binged on it since finding it and you’ve got me back in the darkroom - the last time was in high school, in 1982 :-) I’ve processed my first film last weekend and been looking for an enlarger for 6x9 but might just start with contact prints for now. thanks for so many good lessons and going through the various processes so well

Another great video - nice one. Glad to see that you are shooting more with the Holga. It's inspired me to get mine back out and shoot some more. Aside from the individual quirks of the camera, one thing I like about them is how much they can be personalised. Mine has black tape covering the name and the (broken) flash unit and I've blacked out the white bits on the lens with a black marker. I probably wouldn't have done this with a Leica...
Given your success with the Holga, I think you'd enjoy shooting a No.2 Brownie. I got mine for a tenner including postage. Absolutely the cheapest way to get into (almost) 6x9 medium format. Loads of fun.

I always try to give Holgas a chance, but never find myself photographing similar scenes that lend themselves well to the holga. Also, if you haven’t given lith printing a try, I suggest looking into it and trying it out. It’s really an awesome process.

When I was printing I could never get away with a 5 sec exposure, I was too slow to dodge and burn that fast. About 20 sec gave me more time to get things on target and be more forgiving😉

It is funny I was just going through some of my Holga shots last night sharing them with a friend. I have owned it a couple years and I think shot three rolls through it. Damn going through some last night I fell in love with them and now I have to shoot it again. I have yet to make any prints in the darkroom so that is a must. But why haven’t I shot this little plastic of toy more. I don’t know but I will.

I’ve got a holga with a glass lens. It’s super light and fun but....even when I’ve been happy with the results it feels like a waste of 120 when I could have put that roll through my Pentax 67.
It's horses for courses, isn't it? The 67 is an amazing camera, but there's something special about Holgas. No two are alike. I used to worry about "wasting" film back when I started, but film is there to be "wasted". A roll of HP5 is only about 6 quid, and in the right hands - as Roger has shown - the results you can get from such a simple camera can be outstanding.
Jim Booth HP5 is my favorite BW film but it’s a little more expensive here in Japan. Film is meant to be shot and I’ve kept the Holga I own so I haven’t given up on it completely. Maybe next time we go down to the beach I’ll throw a roll of Acros in it.
I can understand that Philip. I think it's a mindset. Loading the Holga for that Holga look. Same as pinhole.
You really have gone showbiz, I mean... Dung! 'Shoot the dung out of it!' doesn't quite have the same ring about it.
On a positive note, I am tempted to treat myself to a Holga. I would like to see how it looks with some of my colour emulations, particularly for my portrait work.

Great images from the Holga ! Tempting me to invest in one . Would sticking a yellow filter infront of the lens help with the sky ?
I don't think so the sky was pretty flat Andrew. It may have lightened the scene and water a tad and possibly gave a bit more definition in the trees in the BG.

Do you use the glass in the carrier? I took mine out. I really love the photos Holgas produce. The slight vignette, the grain, the blurriness on the edges.
No I don't have the glass John. It has to be anti newton glass which is quite expensive.
Many reviewers have said to not use the viewfinder, because it throws off focus & what is in the frame, because it’s slightly off & recommended taking images more centered & ignore viewfinder. However, I see you using viewfinder & your pics are fine 😅 do you find this to be true? I hope I’m making sense. there’s so much confusing info out there with these cameras. How is it that humans manage to complicate something so simple?😅

A Durst M605 Serge. I have a video all about it on my channel a year or so ago.
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss I'll have to find that video! My neighbor and I when halves on take down Durst 2 1/4" F60 enlarger decades ago. I still have it! It came with two condensers.

How do you position the paper so precisely? I don't see any kind of a stop on your easel.
I use a white board marker which you see on the baseboard and align the paper within the marks I make. It's usually hit and miss! I have easels for smaller paper but not the larger paper.
I bought your windmill print and i was amazed how square and parallel the print was to the edge of the paper. The next printing season, please show in more detail how you do that. I am currently setting up a darkroom in one of my spare baths and i don't have an easel either and have to use your method. I currently use the library darkroom , but they are on a semi-lock-down and sessions are limited to an hour. I love your work and instruction.
the post to the left of the second print really annoys me - Just me being me not liking things that break through the edges...
A guy I know shoots wit a Holga all the time but he has about 20 pounds of tape on it.
Cheap camera. Spend fortunes on tape 😂
