This is the first time I have used Berlin 400 and the second time I've shot a different film other than HP5 in my Holga 120n.

I have 2 Holgas thanks to you Roger lol they are fun as long as you except them for what they are I been happy with my results so far funny thing is when I ordered some Potsdam I got some Berlin as well looking forward to trying it out can’t decide to put in my Holga or into my Bronica 🤔 after this I may find the Holga a run out with it
Love the Holga! I shot with the Berlin in 35mm format. It is a good film, however a less contrast than I would like.
That stretch of beach seems to be your go to place for quick images
it's great as the sun rises that side and it's 10 minutes from home. If I want sunset I have to drive 35 minutes to the other side of the island. Worth the drive sometimes.
A master at work or play however he wants it.
Fun following someone who actually can explain hot one gets decent results with the Holga. I have a version that only shoots 645 format, but I have never really befriended it for any of my type of Photography. After watching this and your other Holga videos I have a better understanding of how it works, and I will try another round. They do give a certain character and personality to the images. Thank you for another fun and interesting video.
you should also check out mickael kenna's "Holga" book where he shot only with that, really amazing work i think :)

Well cable release adapter is optional for long exposures. Sturdy tripod yes. Hand hold the shutter down and the nd filter to the lens. Have shot 3 rolls like this with no evidence of user induced camera shake with exposures up to 1.5min.
Stand in that beach 🏖 long enough another HOLGA will probably wash up 🙄✅

Great close-ups video and wonderful little camera!
Prints look great! That Berlin film is a weird one. The negatives look murky, but the scans are often very nice. Seems kinda random sometimes. If you haven't tried the Potsdam Kino yet, I recommend giving it a go. It's pretty much the exact opposite of the Berlin Kino :-) Nice and contrasty. I like it a lot.
I have tried Potsdam Don. No issues. I have a 120 here too.
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss Nice! Potsdam is a new favourite of mine. I always seem to get really nice results with that one. Pushes very well too, actually. Not much light in Norway this time of year :-)
Try Rodinal 1:50 - Berlin is ORWO UN75 - 13 minutes - although trade off is increased grain.
Enjoyed the video Roger. It’s good that you encouraged newbies to try med format for not too much money.
I haven’t used farmers reducer, but I have used chromium intensifier a couple of times, to increase the contrast on ’ thin’ negs and it did improve them. It’s deadly stuff according to the instructions so I was careful, used rubber gloves and plenty of ventilation. I really like the results you are getting with the Holga. I’ve not tried the Berlin film, hadn’t heard of it to be honest, but you got some good images.

I am at the Grand Canyon here in the states. I am kicking myself for not buying another Holga. So many cool things to shoot with a Holga here.

Try Corina, it's similar to this, but it's older, it was produced in Czechoslovakia by Druopta and i't 6/6 or 645 you can chose format you want, because inside there are some metal sheeds to set the format.

Just shot my first HOLGA yesterday, 1st. mistake, I had it in Bulb mode for half the shots. Take a look at Martin Henson's work with the Holga.
Easy mistake to make! I've seen Martins work. Beautiful. I shot it with the lens cap on for 6 frames a while back!!
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss I will have to watch out for that one too. I have jammed in a 46-49 step up ring in to the lens for contrast filters and to reduce the exposure.
Had one of my worst days of film Photography Saturday. I'll be in the darkroom on Thanksgiving printing. I'm trying to get some darkroom upgrades done before I print.

I read somewhere the Berlin film is a rewrap of ORWO N17 cinema stock.
Maybe some of it is outdated stock, which may account for the base veiling.
I read Orwo N74+. Orwo is a good brand. The emulsion has "Berlin" written in it. Did Lomo have had this made or it is old stock which was once called Berlin? Who knows Leonard.
Give the Agfa`s of the 50thies a try ... they have a glass lens too and are even cheaper.

I use a 6x6 Agfa folding camera instead of the Holga 120N.
However, I also enjoy using a 6x12cm Holga 120 Panoramic Camera for extra wide shots.

You use a lomo camera and then you use a lomo film....... Only your skill, experience and resources got you out of that hole.
Result, good prints and a lot of fun ... personally, I think it's mainly the film that's the issue.
You should really take some wellies with you matey.
I noticed when you showed us the Dev chart the time was for 35mm film and not 120 which would be different given that it needs more chemicals to develope it.
If you see the MDC most are the same times for 35mm and 120. I think you'll find it has the similar area size.
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss it’s just when I did a 120 I’d only put enough chemicals for a 35mm ruined it and I thought with using more chemicals it would be a different time but it’s still the same dilution
Oh no! I shorted a 120 once by a few millilitres. Feeling confident I'd covered the film. Nope. Nice band of uneven development appeared all along the film. Nothing that a crop couldn't deal with but still a silly mistake ha ha
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss mine was worse only two shots ok but it was taken on a box camera and the images weren’t much good- Holga is far better 🤣
Have you ever tried to selenium tone the negatives to get some of the contrast back as well? I done it a few times with mixed results.

Nice haul of expired films there. Don't know if you've shot it before, but Agfapan APX25 really is something special. Beautiful tones and almost non-existant grain. It holds up really well even when long expired. On the rare occasions that I've been able to get hold of it (for a reasonable price) I've shot it at box speed and it has always come out looking fantastic.
What developer would you recommend? People say Rodinal
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss Rodinal would be fine, but my go-to is D76, which gives lovely tones. Rodinal is a little too clinical for me for a film that fine-grained, though others swear by it. ID-11 is pretty much identical to D76, so I'd go with that. It'll still come out razor-sharp.

I've seen ALL of your videos Pete and I do definitely remember your farmers one of St Paul's.
what was the process for using Farmer's Reducer? Do you refix it afterwards?
I soaked the film first for a minute. Then bleached by sight. Then put it back in a fixer then washed. I'm not 100% sure if it needed a fix but to be on the safe side
how do you roll back the film on the original roll?
You don’t... in the camera there is a « take up spool » you’re loading your film on then you roll the film on it exposure after exposure when you arrive at the end you continue to roll until the backing paper leave the spool who come with the film, then you extract your exposed film and the film spool become the next take up spool for your next film

Speaking of stupid mistakes... today for me was nothing but rookie mistakes :(. Overexcited by the fresh snow that is outside...
I just came back from outside and realized that on one camera I overexposed HP5 film. I've had the camera set for ISO 100 :(... and I was so ticked off by it that I screwed up the other camera by mistake... opened the back without realizing I forgot to wind the film back, closed it fast... hope I didn't screw up the entire film :(.
So here I am soaked cold and most probably fckd both films and will get nothing :(.
At least the ProImage canister was saved... unless I do something stupid in the development time...
You get these days too I guess... :(

@@russellspeight5175 I just finished developing it... I under-developed it by 1 minute less than what I usually develop it at - seems like I might of saved it... will know for sure once I get to scan it. Is drying right now.
Good to know it might be OK at 100... maybe next time I will do it on purpose and develop it as I normally do... but since was a lot of snow, there might of been nothing but blown highlights. Played it safe.
I believe Ilford say you can shoot it at 200 and still develop normally, so you really only went 1 stop over. It's a very tolerant film and a favourite of mine.

The lesson here is to not lose one's temper cus everything might still be OK. Loosing my temper cost me 6 shots on the second film that I exposed :/... "GOOSFRABA" :D.
@@mrN3w7 I don't think we can class them as rookie mistakes, as we all make them. If you know you've made a 'mistake', I know I'm most likely to make another in short order. Time to stop and take a break, start from first base again.
I put new light seals in a Pentax, repeatedly popped the back open, did I learn, nope, put a new film in and did exactly the same the following day, lost 40% of the roll. Stripped out a portion of the light seal, hasn't opened since.
