Excellent and a very practical Video. I would add 2 small towels (Damp one and keep other Dry) for keeping hands fresh. Thanks for sharing

James, all very good advice. I have a somewhat unique situation in that I switch between bass guitar and upright acoustic bass depending on the song. I put together a small, inexpensive pedalboard containing an A/B switch, a tuner, and a preamp. The A/B switch allows me to change instruments easily and quickly between songs, and it has a silent connection to the tuner. Depending on the venue, feedback and booming can be a real problem with the upright acoustic bass. In addition to other basic non-technical solutions, that's what the preamp is for. It has functions to help eliminate this very annoying problem.

Agree with your list. I would add to it a small bottle of baby powder/ talc and fast fret for playing in those hot sticky venues

I carry all those things plus - 4 gang extension lead(s), spare fuses and power cables for my amp, a spare bass and a guitar stand. I prefer using flight cases for my instruments because they’re more robust.

I like to carry extra strings and my tuner but I took them out so I should put them back in

    Typing while watching.
    9v and button cell batteries
    Spare cable
    Extension cord of some sort
    Polish cloth and cleaner
    Tools appropriate to guitars
Gonna prop up the D'Addario screw on tuners. They never leave your guitar, thus they won't disappear because you can't loan it to someone. Plus, I really dislike when players leave their snark on the guitar during a show. The D'Addario is hidden behind the headstock.

Carry extra USED(not dead) strings. So you can avoid the piano string sound of a new one and it doesn't need to stretch and go out of tune.

I'd add a few mini bottles of spirits (such as those found in some hotels) or a little flask, because ... They aren't probably giving the musicians enough booze.

Do NOT forget to put a couple painkillers tablets in your bag... you won't believe how hard it is to play a 4-hour gig with a headache... (true story)

I'm learning guitar but I can still learn bass too right?

    • @ebassguitar

Absolutely - there are many people who ‘double’ on both. I did for a while!

I don't know what it's called, but it's a small and inexpensive device you can plug into an electrical outlet to make sure the outlet is properly wired and grounded. Why plug into an outlet that's not properly grounded or might potentially hurt your gear?

    • @ebassguitar

I know the devices you mean... used to see them loads.
Certainly in the uk I think we’re covered by heavy electrical regulations so most buildings have that built in...

The USA has pretty strong regulations, too, @@ebassguitar. Once in a while, though, we can run into a long lived temporary fix or something done by a handyman instead of an electrician. Someone in Bass Player magazine listed it close to 30 years ago, when I started learning bass. These gadgets are cheap insurance and, if nothing else, peace of mind.

You forgot the most important thing - a bass guitar. I kid you not - the bass player with a band that toured with us in the late 1980s got to a gig only to find he'd left his bass at the last gig in Newcastle. We were playing that night in Portsmouth so he had to borrow one of mine :-)

Yeah, I usually have most of the PA and had alot to pack. I left my two basses in the garage and showed up an hour away with nothing to play. Fortunate to find a loaner.
