Pro Drifter Reacts to Jimmy Oakes Drifting

- I have made drifting reacts from pro drifters to grassroots drifters to UA-camrs and everyone in between so it seemed fitting to react to Jimmy Oakes! Starting with a Nissan S13 240SX with minimal car mods, he learned to drift and initially focused on driving rather than building his drift car. This seemed to pay off as he quickly was drifting in advanced group, then tandem drifting, and learning more advanced drifting skills. He then started building and drifting different cars from a BMW E30, turbo Mazda Miata, turbo Nissan S14, and even a RWD converted Honda Civic! I want to look at the journey Jimmy Oakes went through to learn how to drift, and see what he did well, and how he got to be the drift car driver he is today.

I think you would love the video Jimmy put out "Building a rear wheel drive civic in 10 minutes" if you havent already. I followed them through the whole process and it is surprisingly well done. It would be sweet to see you react to it also!

I love how you take these videos as an opportinity to highlight the good things about other drivers and spread knowledge. I always worry that reaction videos from youtubers are going to be critical of what other people do, so this is really refreshing!

The civic is a s13 under everything. Alot of fab work went into it.

I love that one of my favorite youtubers is doing videos on my other favorite youtubers!
Jimmy always struggled with grip in his coupe its 1jz swapped and was making to much power for the width of tires he had under it thats why it was a smoke show in his first runs in the 2nd half with the coupe (s13 drifts for the first time in 2 years) he did rear over fenders and wider front fenders allowing him to run wider tires for more grip and the car was still struggling for grip do to his rear arms being at bad angles because he didn't have drop knuckles in the rear and his sub frame bushings were roached but he just threw a new sub frame under it with better arms, drop knuckles and bushings
I would say it was struggling bc he wanted to be a low boi lol, hence the drop knuckle. He’s definitely got a ways to go to get comfy in the car again, and it’s still turned down lol. Hopefully that other s15 turns out to be a better chassis for him!

@@chazschindel9326 it was. He didn’t go jz until he had the oem aero and two tone fenders. Only recently did he go back to a big kit and add overs
The s13 in first videos was a sr20 and last videos the s13 has a 500hp 1jz and over fenders with 265s in rear he's an awesome dude

Suspension wise for the Civic, its all S13 swapped. A tonnnn of fab work. Super sick build but the motor is hurt so he hasnt really driven it since then

You should take a look at the progress Chris rudnik (ricer miata)has made in drifting the past few years. For someone who's never drifted in a competition he has real good car control and is a quick learner,and he's still only like 24/25 I think.
I have a Honda civic it has 800 HP with a k24 engine its rwd he actually inspired me when I saw him drift a civic so I did it slides well cant lie to u he. Can inspire a lot of people to turn a FWD car to a rwd n drift it

The rear wheel drive Civic is basically a S chassis with a Civic body. The used both front and rear suspension from a S-13 including the engine.

Coming from someone in a shop that does fab and body they really killed it on that civic
He used all s13 or 14 subframes on the civic with a Ka-t setup. Thing rips.

The holding back on the handbreak at 5:54 was cuz he didnt want to use the handbreak that much, i cant remember exactly why that was but that's the reason why he wanted to go for it but held back on it

Im not sure if you have done this vid before but do a vid on Luke Fink! There us a clip where his bonnet flew up covering the windscreen but he still continued to drift the track and does a 360 to get the bonnet closed again 🤣🤣 was a sick clip, in general hes a sick driver!
