The choreo is mediocre at best. Wtf was that? I don’t see how this even gets high praise. I basically do all those moves when I’m messing around with my kids.
dude for one thing: this choreography is from 1979. were you even alive then? where do you think all these moves you do when you're messing around with your kids came from. how did you see them, etc. once something has been imitated to the point its common it can be easy to ignore the genius of the originator. but also: yes a lot of these moves are from black people messing around. you can also see bits from black dances of the 20s like the lindy hop etc. what makes this genius is how you can get the sense of these people messing around but it's weaved along a bunch of like ballet dance lines that let it travel all over the stage in fluid motion. so we get the story that these are a bunch of people messing around. that's why it starts with the phrase "look what just blew in from winnetka." it's like a parody of country folk who come to the big city for the first time. that's the genius part, not the individual moves.
One of the best moments in a show full of best moments. They were just electrifying.
So excited to see Mattie Love and her partners do their thing! I thought it was great!
Génial!
